Wrong. Nationality DOES NOT = Race.

Clearly any person who does not live in a country can have a pretty good idea of the politics and real life situation of that country. Unless they choose to bury their head in the sand, or has prejudged the person voicing their own opinion.
(In programming, " != " means "not equal to")

Because certainly the solution is to silence all voices you don't agree with so you're left with an echo chamber. Your right to ignore and I'm sure I'll be there too but maybe consider only ignoring those that are truly and objectively hateful in their rhetoric instead of anyone who looks in a different direction.

Not seeking to create an echo chamber. Just trying to remove the hurtful/ignorant/borderline-racist commentary from my feeds.

It's weird seeing how pressed some folks are about today's announcement. That frustration (not saying you!) needs to be redirected.

I’d recommend you watch this 4-minute video:

It demonstrates why Apple is donating to certain groups only, rather than all. They’re trying to get equality of opportunity, not equality of treatment.
I've seen this video, and has surprisingly proven my point! I am gonna expose my personal experience and opinion here, and I hope because of this, no one in the forum, staff, mods or users, will change their opinion about me (because I appreciate most of you). I'm all about letting people express themselves freely, and let people share their point of view, reading all of them, because thinking you're the one with the only truth is what's causing the political polarisation of the society not only on the US, but in other countries as well. For me, it is not about black or white (like Michael Jackson said) but about shades of grey. And there are a thousand of that, just like opinions and points of view.

This is my experience: I was born in a non typical structured family. I was raised without a father. I was scholarized but I never had that father figure or personal tutor, and I had my struggles during that stage. I reached the Public University, and I didn't have the resources to pay a private college. During the University, I struggled to the point I had to leave because... surprise, I had a learning disability. No one tested me for that learning disability until I had passed the 30 year old mark, navigating a life of depression and anxiety as comorbidities. I've finally found recently I am ADHD/AED/others (I won't go into details about this), and according to the doctor, this has been the root problem interfering in my studies, my ability to create social and affective relationships, and the source of my depressions and anxiety issues.

My life is messed up, I haven't had any social interactions for many years, the few friends I had revealed themselves as not being true friends, they all met their partners and I never knew anything about them as they started to have kids. Meanwhile, I am single, with a messed life, taking care of my grandma with Alzeimer's as my main -unpaid- job for many years (6 years) in the past, because my mom wasn't able do that properly... All those issues would have let me in the rear row of that race, and guess what? [Plot twist] I'm a white male. Just like some of those disadvantaged guys in that video.

I'm all about no discrimination, of course, not only against race or gender or religion (if you practice any), also against age which is usually the forgotten one. But let's treat everyone the same way because anyone, regardless of their race or gender, will have their backpack of issues, a backpack full of stones that will make it harder to have a successful life, which is not only finding a job and succeeding at it, but also having friends, family and such.

As someone with struggles to end my studies and perform decently on a job, I could wish someone like me had the sympathy , the empathy of society and especially employers. But I'd never ask a special treatment in the form of "a school only for people like me, and recruitment only for people like me", and in my case it could have some sense because of the special needs of someone who has to re-read everything at least 3 or 4 times to actually read it, or someone who just forgets what was doing few seconds ago. In the case of someone with a different skin color? Sorry, but I definitely don't see it. My only wish is for people to be treated the same way regardless of their condition/race/gender/religion/age, because that's what equality is about from my point of view. And, as a society, as a whole, fight against those obstacles that might make others life more difficult, just like mine. Which is well summarised in this picture:

However [This might be the second plot twist of my post] if the city where Apple is going to build their educational centre is truly a disadvantaged place (I've never been to Detroit, and do not know that city), where poverty is everywhere and there are NO opportunities, just like in some Latin American countries where it is virtually impossible to study and promote internationally, then I find this a good move from Apple. But I am not basing this on the race of the people, but in the place they might have been raised. Sure, build schools in Venezuela, Bolivia, South Africa, Middle West. I'm sure there's need of opportunities for people there! But please, don't do that based on race or gender or religion any other discriminatory traits. Thank you Apple.

Haters are out in force showing their worth as individuals again. Seriously can’t even acknowledge people doing good things for other people? I learned in church that is exactly what you are supposed to do

Let me first say that I am absolutely all for this. But Apple is very hypocritical on things like this, which rubs many people the wrong way. This is easy to to in the US, because the majority of people are going to support this and it isn't' going to effect Apple's sales.

But, look to Hong Kong. They are in a constant state of protest against China to regain their democracy and live independently. Apple offers no support over to them, because that is difficult and would surely cause them major problems with China whom they are looking to constantly grow their market in. They bow to the dictatorship in China even removing a Hong Kong protest app becuase the Chinese govt. deemed it dangerous. It was dangerous, dangerous to the dictatorship from which Hong Kong is trying to break free from.

So Apple just needs to do better worldwide, unless they are just committed to equality here in the U.S., but I don't think that is in their mission statement. What they are doing here is great, but its also easy. Do it worldwide and commit your same efforts to equality around the world, even in places where it might put a dent in your sales and then you'll have my respect in doing so.

The only other issue I have with this is Apple working the press on this announcement. No way CBS "just happened" to reach out to him the day before this announcement to tease it to the public. This was a well timed PR move to get all eyes watching on what was happening this morning to get Apple as many "we love you" posts as possible. Just do it regardless of the press coverage.

This is all well and good, but to not take on the dark money groups flooding into American Politics, is missing the fuel to the fires that ignited last week. 'Dark Money' is an insane toxin. Men like Sheldon Adelson showered money on groups like ALEC, RAGA, not to mention larger anti-democracy groups working against the BLM movement, climate change, science, and other social movements. The ability to donate unlimited sums of money to warp society, and the world, should come with an equally strong need to expose those donors. Keeping them honest, and keeping their power checked is important to save America.

Exposing donations and donors also helps rule out foreign interference and influence.

Many articles have been written about the fake rage of donor corporations suspending donations to individual candidates. They STILL donate to the dark money cover groups that inflamed and ignited the riot, and could further inflame matters. Those dark money groups still have millions, possibly billions, of dollars to further their mischief annd criminality.

But, bravo for Apple to continue supporting efforts for a positive future for all of us.

Because I appear less like a black woman when my hair is perfectly straight vs my naturally curly hair.
Unfortunately as someone who dates white men, he isn’t the first but I am sexy regardless nor do I really need or want a mans validation so his like most men’s opinions, is irrelevant.

I wore my hair natural most of 2020 because I was in lockdown and saw no reason to straighten my hair.
I do tend to get my attention when I look/dress more like a white woman than a black woman. Unless, the guy wants to fetishize me and literally seeks me out because I am black. Which is a whole nother issue.

welcome to being a black woman in America.
You need to date some Brothers too.
While you mentioned you date White Men I sure hope that isn't exclusively.

But I digress..

I'm glad to see Apple support this initiative. I'm just wondering based on their stockpile of cash that they could have done more.

They end up being homeless advocates in low six-figure do nothing jobs.
If it gets them a job and they’re working that’s good. I think that should be the goal of every American to get a skill that you can use for a paying job. If it’s underwater basketweaving and there’s a market for those baskets then great. We need people out there making society better and being productive citizens.

Lol black men(men in general) have their own issues. But not mutually exclusive.
Black men or men in general - because you're saying two different things here.

As a Black Man I'm tempted to reply further. but again its a digression and one for another thread!

Starbucks barrista?
Those same Barrista's you rely on to prep your beverage otherwise you'll fail to function throughout the day?

Time we had a bit more respect for other people. I have a good job but I will never ever look down upon those who are paid less than me.

Anyone who does honest work plays a role in society and is owed respect.

Wow. “You need to date some brothers too.” Way to go man.
Lol you really are trying to make something out of nothing 😂

I get what he meant and I’m not offended as a black woman either. It’s not that deep.

I was saying black men come with their own set of issues. But then men as a whole are problematic haha.

I told someone sexuality isn’t a choice. I’m still attracted to men in spite of 😂 but you’re right.
