I agree with what you’re saying but petty theft was his most minor offense. Wishing death on anyone however isn’t a good thing. Even if that person stuck a gun to a pregnant lady’s stomach while she was being robbed.

Yeah, you have to wonder if that is because of a language barrier or not.
In some cases it may be language in others it could be circumstance. Like many of the Salvadorans I worked with when I was younger in construction were fleeing hardships severe and traumatic ones. This combined with lack of education and a somewhat insulated community (while in the USA) where they didn't need to learn English contributed to this as well.
But I can easily look at others (immigrant families) who did well, who's parents sacrificed it all so they could send their kids to college. Then I can look at my family (2nd and 3rd generation Mexican American) and see that im the only one of a hundred cousins that went to college and got a degree (two in fact) my father didn't have a penny to him despite working his whole life. He blew it on partying and drinking and drugs. There are just so many circumstances out there for everything to be painted with such broad brush strokes (i.e. neither one of my parents finished hisghschool and they weren't ever married and split when I was 9). Don't get me started on the white side of the family they didn't fare much better and there are reasons for that too.

I am always staggered by Apple in this regard.

All the talk and the various people they show in the adverts buying their products.
And yet you take a look at Apple's own top people on their website:

It’s not a coloring match. Maybe the best people for the job just happen to be white/Asian?

Not its not a coloring match its a match of what school mommy and daddy sent you too and what connections you have for the majority of them and many others in their circumstances. Or is it you want me to believe that actors have children who are also the best actors in the world, it has nothing to do with mom and dads wealth and the acting coach from 5 years old etc... I would also argue a number of them while being at least shaded lighter are not "white" people.

There were no swastika flags to my knowledge but there were Neo-nazi ones. This website identifies all of the symbols that were spotted.

Thank you. I did some more research when I couldn't find any images of swastikas, and also saw the Auschwitz sweatshirt on some sites.

I'm still waiting for the Tweet or video of Trump inciting violence?

Holding a legal protest where some people then go off to commit a crime isn't inciting violence. That would be an unbelievable metric to hold people to. Trump told people to go home and be peaceful, some of us actually watched the videos rather than regurgitated what CNN said.

Also the Police let people into the Capitol building, there's plenty of video of it, protestors were even staying between the railings. No doubt some idiots ruined it for everyone but it's hardly a coup like CNN is describing, you had Antifa members involved too - are we holding Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden accountable for that?

I am sick and tired of Trump being held to a different standard to Democrats. Where was the calls to impeach when Democrat mayor Ted Wheeler let Antifa rampage through Portland for months on end? Or the State Governor of Oregon refuse to allow the National Guard in to pacify the violent 'fiery but mostly peaceful' protests?
The timing was critical. Trump was advised by everyone around him for nearly 5 hours before reacting to the violence. He's very quick to incite and very slow to quell the violence. He's done this repeatedly over the past 4 years. You can argue the details but I find it hard to defend his lack of basic judgement and leadership skills.

How do you account for the videos of police being attacked, chased and crushed in the doorway? Obviously, authorities weren't all on the same page but that hardly excuses the rioters' behavior more Trump's. Trump loves executive orders but never makes them when it comes down to actually saving lives in the moment, unless it's his hiding in a bunker.

Maybe Trump should be held to a different standard considering he is the President and not a local politician or protester. Just a thought.

Jeffrey Epstein is scum as well. So is Donald Trump. So is George Floyd. They’ve all done terrible things. I love how you brought up Trump and nobody said a single thing about him. TDS is real I gues.
all of these people aren't equal

What counts most is Apple’s commitment to entrepreneurs of color.

I think the main thing to remember is that the world isn't a zero sum game and there is plenty of pie for everyone to go around. I like these initiatives, but do agree that the current temperature towards while males feels hostile in many contexts.

I understand that some groups might think this is just because while males want to protect their status/etc/etc and feel threatened, but we do need to balance conversations to aim for equality and not just endlessly give advantages to cultures based on race alone.

I've definitely witnessed some conversations where any comment at all by a white male is quickly attacked as sexist or evil, and it feels quite unbalanced.
I agree. You should ONLY hire someone based on their résumé and experience. Not anything else from race, religion, or sex/gender identity.

lol are you really going to tell a person of color what they don’t and don’t have in America 😂

that’s like a man telling a woman what it means to be a woman. You’re so ridiculously and willfully complicit in the very issues happening in both this country and world.

please stop trying to Black Lives Matter the root of all the issues. These issues have existed long before there was a movement because racist have always existed and cops have often gotten away with murder and planting evidence on suspects and racially profiling. I’m 31 years old. Nearly 32.

I specifically was referring to the knowledge of the employees.

So what has BLM done with the money that has been donated to them? I have yet to see any accounting of that money. Does it go to help violent prone area like Chicago, black kids get a better education, or is it used to divide Americans and raise more money?
Did you donate? So why do you care?

Being upset over being treated unequal is dividing the country? Just sit back and take it huh?

Funny how your kind plays victim. You think you bring the country together?

I came here to say how telling it was that an initiative regarding race and justice is now controversial and listed under politics. Then I saw some of the replies here and... I guess the need for the initiative is inherently proven. It's like we're not living in the same country.
The fact that some people disagree with the sentiment behind this is NOT proof that it is needed. Stop using ridiculous logic fed to you by the RICHEST people in the country. They are doing everything they can to divide us on RACIAL lines and NOT CLASS. They do not want us to talk about class. That is why they are doing this ********. We do not need racist practices that pick people because their skin is a certain color. Why couldn't this just be for the less fortunate as a whole??

I love the idea and investment into this idea.

It all boils down to application.
If by justice you mean OJ Simpson (whose verdict was cheered) or even after a long trial and the verdict is given and objection (and even rioting) follows - that isn't the outcome.

Everyone isn't innocent but too often that is how it is presented.

"Every individual deserves equal access to opportunity regardless of skin color or zip code"
"venture capital funding for Black and Brown entrepreneurs"

Oh, the irony...
Apple loves all skin colors -- as long as the darker shades don't get too far up in the hierarchy. In that regard, they are just like Microsoft: The higher you go, the whiter it gets.

The irony, indeed.

There's always that possibility but looks around at your co-workers. Are they always the best fit for their jobs? They got their jobs through cronyism, nepotism and opportunities afforded to their family or community that others didn't have. It's not much different than going to a typical Asian restaurant. Just because it's become what we expect to see doesn't make it right or fair for everyone.

Requirements? What are you smoking?

I'm telling you how the two companies are staffed, having worked for both.

So all the more reason for said projects. I’ll discard any conspiracy theories that the racial mix changes deliberately in upper ranks as hog wash.

I don't think they realize it. I think they're equating "freedom of speech" with freedom to protest in any way that makes change happen quickest. In the same way that Trump incited the illegal and violent part of the protest, some of the peaceful protesters outside the Capitol were also part of that incitement. Similarly, cheerleaders for "freedom" on this and many other forums believe they are removed from responsibility since they weren't there and they aren't inciting violent acts. But they're backing the ones that incite violence and act violently and don't understand that.

So would you say cheerleaders for “equality” should be removed from responsibility for the BLM and Antifa riots all summer? Or should they be held just as responsible like you are suggesting the “freedom” cheerleaders be?

Do you mean by Microsoft having an Indian American as a CEO cause I’m confused? Apple doesn’t have anyone like that in their executive staff.

Lol, the responses in this thread are ridiculous. Ppl are really still having a debate about whether marginalized groups deserve resources and community investment to compensate for historical socioeconomic disenfranchisement. It’s both hilarious and infuriating to see the heated debate that’s always caused by the notion of dedicating resources towards racial justice.

its funny how race should never be a part of the discussion when it comes to redistributing resources... but it was ALWAYS part of the discussion when it came to stripping nonwhite people of generational wealth and class mobility.

but then again, do people really go to Macrumors for sociological range? 🤣
