Downloaded and installed Lion in about 40 minutes. Burned it to DVD just incase anything happens and also for my friend to do his install. We did realize that the build numbers are the same and for those of you who are wondering if updates are gonna be pushed out to the GM build..well my friend did a software update to find out and he did get updates. see pic

Under 9...hours to go:(! doing this over wireless internet. but on the up side I have 1.26GB down!:) Looking forward to getting Lion started...tonite!:(

I bought an early 2011 MBP when they first came out. Am I eligible for a free copy of the new OS?

Reversed scrolling ...

While I understand why Apple swapped the direction of two finger scrolling, I've spent all morning coping with the change. It really messes with your mind. Eventually I'll get used to it.

Anybody else stuck in this finger-twister?

Up to date working for me now, but it wants me to choose a billing method to charge me $0.00. What to do now? All help appreciated.

@stisdal

I have performed a clean install using a boot disk. Be patient, the installer takes awhile to load. Once it starts a window will appear that gives you several options. Choose the disk utilities to erase, close once that is complete, return to the window and choose the option to reinstall Mac OS X. This starts the install process.

Boy, I really miss the old school spaces. Does anyone know a way to rearrange the spaces within mission control, I remember seeing a way once, in a DP.

One thing I'm really enjoying is the new safari. Much snappier, and when I'm not connected to my external monitor, the full screen mode is pretty slick.

I'm downloading it. It will take like 10 hours because my slow internet connection, but waiting 10 hours is far better than waiting 2 or 3 weeks for it to arrive to my country (as we had to do with Snow Leopard).

I paid $29.99, same as USA.

Yes, the thing out of the gate that was just confusing my eye-hand coordination was the scrolling - both on a MacBook Air touchpad and a Mac Pro with a Wacom mouse with a scroll wheel. This is the "natural" movement as Apple phrases it, but it's the opposite of a scroll bar movement and the old gesture on a track pad - i.e. where you would grab a scroll bar and pull down to move down a page, the default gesture would have you flick your two fingers up / roll your mouse scroll wheel up rather than down.

Mice - To fix this, you can go into the System Preferences and for a scroll mouse deselect the "Move content in direction of finger movement when scrolling or navigating.

Gesture Trackpads - again in System Preferences under "Trackpad" - "Scroll & Zoom" - deselect the "Scroll direction: natural".

I think one thing that is throwing me off a bit is that you still see the scroll bars moving traditionally if you will. I think the new direction is as logical if not more than the old convention but seeing the old way throws me in the old automatic response. Is there a way to hide scroll bars forever? Don't know if I would like that but would be nice to experiment with..

Awesome. Thank you for the reply. I was afraid to try as I do mot have the snow leopard disk, but I have since realized that I have a carbon copy on another HD...

Where's the hand crank?

This is a nightmare.

So far today i have bought Lion and Lion server twice. Once today and once on the 16th July ????????. Cannot download as app store keeps reporting an error has occurred. Or sit there waiting then reports an error. My Broadband connect is 33Meg so i cannot blame that.

Come back DVD

'cus no one ever had a problem installing from DVD.

No one cares if you are "currently downloading Lion", it's like saying "I'm currently drinking a drink" Stop it!

I was about to say just that. It's the fact that we still see the scroll bars that it feels unnatural. On touch device, this new way of scrolling definitely feels natural because you're pulling the paper in the direction you want it to go. If the scroll bars are gone, it will feel the same way on a Mac.

I second the request to hide scroll bars entirely.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can make it.

Once again....

The GM developer release from earlier this month and the release now being sold via the App Store ARE IDENTICAL.

I've confirmed this by comparing the MD5 sum of the main installer (InstallESD.dmg) within BOTH the GM dev release and the current release. The md5 sums are identical, meaning they are the exact same package.

 Read what I typed. You said "regardless of the different version number"....

... if the version number is different, then the 2 packages cannot be identical. It's impossible. Even if everything else in the packages is identical, the place where the version number is entered would be different.

If the version # on the GM is the SAME as the retail one, then fine. I agree.

EDIT: I see the version #s are identical, therefore the packages are the same. But my statement is still valid.

I bought a new Macbook pro that is eligible for the free Lion upgrade.

I also have an iMac and my husband's Macbook. Do I need to pay for the upgrade for those two or will I be able to use the same download from the new Macbook Pro?

I don't mind paying but I know that you only have to buy one license for all of your Macbooks and if the free one will work I don't want to buy another if it is not necessary.

If you bought a Mac on or after June 6, go here for the redemption code:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?partNumber=MD202Z/A

After you install it on your new computer, using your Apple ID, you can just go to the App Store on your other Macs, "purchase" 10.7, using the same Apple ID as your free purchase, and the additional purchases will be free too.
