OSX Lion issues discovered so far

At least for me:

VMware fusion - going to need to wait a bit for the update

Safari - issues going to some web pages, cant get to yahoo login page
disk image mounter - won't mount old .smi (self mounting image format)

I'm sure more will crop up

Mission control is messed up when I have itunes full screen. And when I go to exit full screen on itunes it says enter full screen instead of exit. Also it seems a bit glitchy on my 2011 13 macbook pro because some of the animations I had on my dashboard that worked great with SL seem to be really slow on Lion.

I have two machines running GM and one running the AppStore version of Lion. They all say that they have Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511) installed and all of them say that Lion is installed when I go to AppStore.

Happy Lions-day ppl :)

I have downloaded 2.98 GB over about 4 hours in France (2Mb/s connection), according to the purchased tab in App Store but everything seems to have ground to a halt now. My input/output meter on the top status bar is only showing the odd flicker against a pretty steady 275KB/s it was at the beginning. Assume that the servers must have overheated. PPPPPP obviously does not apply. Perfect Preparation Prevents P*** Poor Performance.

I started with a download time of 149 days and progressed to 23 days and 10 hours and now its stalled.

Great service Apple, how about spending some of that money on your customers, why is this happening are they that unprepared?

BTW I have fibre broadband lightning speed for other stuff

wont allow me to install to hardrive , says this hard drive is for time machine backup what the hell

Are you installing to an external drive? Has it been used for time-machine anytime?

Otherwise it seems strange, but try reformatting it as someone said.

totally loving Lion so far. But two things that have me a bit perplexed.

Two of my favorite motion taps within finder and the desktop appear to be disabled. For instance I don't seem to be able to increase or decrease the icon size by doing the pinch/expand motions. I also am unable to go back to the previous folder with the two finger swipe?

Were these removed from Lion?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if you can copy the install file to an external hdd instead of a dvd as I want to install on another mac but don't want to have to go through the download again?

Im not wanting to to a fresh install if that helps answer?

You need to create a boot dvd with the install file

Spotlight could be updating, took a while on my MBP

scrolling has switched back and forth on mine automatically a few times.

Also I've had Safari crash twice when opening system preferences...

Rethinking

Ditto. Don't see the need for many of the changes. Does it make it different. Sure. Better? Hmmm.

Just like the new scrolling. It's not "natural". If it was people would have been clamoring for i for years. Just silly IMHO.

Lion is not an incremental upgrade that adds capabilities to existing features. Lion throws away a few of the been-around-so-long-they-feel-like-that's-the-natural-order-of-the-universe paradigms.

For example, the old way of saving files is gone, not because saving files is bad, but because Apple wants to get rid of the concept of "files" and "saving". Now you have "documents" that have "versions". The versions are created by the operating system, and the operating system gives you tools to look through your old versions to pick the one you want.

Another example is the new scrolling. The old way for desktop-mouse combinations was that scrolling moved the window, which looked into a document behind that window. The new way in Lion is that since you're using a trackpad (you are using a trackpad, aren't you?), you want to interact directly with the document.

Apple does not ask users what they want, then give it to them. Apple feels like they have a direct line to Truth or Utopia or at least Better Interface Design. Apple will implement its version of Truth and make it available to normal people, such as you and me.

Was there some sort of vibrating feature added to Lion? By vibrating, I mean the same as the vibrating on an iPhone. I've been googling, but haven't read anything about such a feature.

Reason I'm asking, is because I've loaded a few different apps and I hear a vibration on my desk. I have sound off on my phone, so I figured it was a notification on my phone but when I reach for it nothing is there. I then realize that the vibrating is coming from my Mac. It's just like a 1-2 second notification vibration.

Are you for real? You can't be serious. This brings us to a little segment I like to call "REALLY?"

REALLY? You think just because you downloaded a new OS that your computer can suddenly vibrate? REALLY? Oh man, you better look out, I think you downloaded a bomb and your computer is actually set to blow up.

On a serious note, I have no idea, but I seriously doubt that they had enough forethought to put vibrating mechanisms in computers only to use them later on down the road. Also, who wants their computer to vibrate?

I downloaded and installed Lion this morning when it came up for sale, went smooth and very fast. After using the OS for a bit, I am very pleased with it. I was expecting something horrible based on everything I've read on this board the past week.

My only question for anyone who can answer is...

It's called, "Hard Drive - vibration" and it's probably stemming from spotlight indexing your hard drive.

What issues do you have with fusion?
Running v. 3.1.2/mostly win7, first boot took ages and more or less locked everything, but it seems smooth now.

Lion Kernel Panic

Well I just installed Lion on my Mac Mini 2010 over the top of Snow Leopard - an approach that obviously Apple supports as they wouldn't let you do it if not. All went swimmingly
1) Download from AppStore - fine
2) Copied installer file over to external drive for use again later
3) Continue installation
4) First restart
5) Installed Lion - took 30mins roughly
6) Restarted - I wasn't watching closely and a window popped up saying restart Mac and then it restarted automatically after a few seconds (I presume this is normal anyway)
7) KERNEL PANIC

From there it is the power button hold to switch off, then restart again. Kernel panic every time

I have my Time Machine backup so I'm not worried about data loss, but I am annoyed at the hassle of working through this issue. I can restart from my Snow Leopard install DVD and run utilities - though not sure I should as these are for 10.6 not 10.7. That said, the Startup Disc utility on the 10.6 DVD does show that the HD has 10.7 installed and is a bootable disc.. I've not gone to the extend of unplugging external FW drives or my wireless mouse (Razer Naga Epic - gamer here!)

So, basically one annoyed end user and just wanted to throw this out as a warning to others. There is no support for Lion on the Apple site as far as I can see - so it's get stuck in and hope time for me.

Good luck to all you others, and I'll join you one day soon on the 10.7 side of things I'm sure.
