user library gone?

probably has already been mentioned and answered, but in all those close to 800 postings....

anybody notice that the user libray is gone? is it just hidden, or is it just like that on my machine?

Software update hanging on MacPro

Anybody else having Software Update hang when downloading? It starts OK, downloads part of a file and then just stops doing anything.

Software update is working fine on two other upgraded machines but not the MacPro.

It's there when you do a long listing in terminal. But it's not shown in Finder for me either.

I have an '07 Blackbook and I was wondering this as well. It gets so hot now I am worried that I may just be in the market for a new home computer.

I have a 08 macbook 2Ghz and 2GB RAM. It feels as fast and not any difference at all from SL. I do have a SSD but I also have the new filevault activated so my SSD is more like a fast 7200 rpm disk anyway :)

Uuuughghhg!

I followed the directions to make an install DVD.

Started the disc, takes 5 minutes to boot, then used Disk Utility to erase my HD (that had 2 partitions on it, one was my boot camp).
Used Extended Journal default volume method.
Lion happily starts installing, then at the very end the remaining time starts escalating to like 5 days then craps out with...

Unable to get additional components, or something like that.
No other options, just back to the main menu.

Now I am stuck installing Snow Leopard first, what a waste of time.

I have created a bootable install DVD from the installESD.dmg file contained in the Mac OS X installer. But how do i completely delete all my files and do a fresh install from the DVD?

That is what I wanted to know also.
Every single "How to clean install Lion" link leaves this important part out.

I tried it just erasing my disc and something went wrong.

Lion Kernel Panic Update

For those of you who read my tale of woes back a few posts - I now have Lion up and running fine. I took the plunge of using the Snow Leopard DVD Disk Utility to repair the disk (no problems found) and then repair the permissions. Loads of problems were fixed. After restarting from the HD after it seems to be fine now. Scary and annoying time...but I am now running Lion. This is going to take a while to get used to as my Mac feels quite different now (and not just the scrolling change ;))

Your user library is hidden. You can get to it by going to the Go menu and selecting "Go to..." and typing in ~/Library

When the installer have started, you can start disk utility from the menu. There you can erase the hard drives and repartition the way you want it.

Everything you said I already did. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

There are a lot more options then just "erase your hard drives".

Oh how I love Lion! I use the iTunes Artwork screensaver, and now you can actually click on the album cover and play the albums. Way cool! Also Lion is so responsive when swiping back and forth through Safari or from one full screen app to the next. Wow!

It actually works but you don't have to erase the WHOLE drive partitioning, but simply format the drive Macintosh HD or whatever its name is. If you don't do this you'll get stuck at the recovery partition and Lion wants to connect to Apple to download extra stuff which you don't need. Format but don't touch partitioning and it will clean install like Snow Leopard, i just did it =)

This is what Disk Utility looks like:

Select the hard drive you want to erase and install Lion to on the left. Where it says First Aid/Erase/Partition/etc. select Erase. Hit Erase. Or if you would like to make sure there's nothing on the drive, you can zero out data by clicking the Security Options. It will automatically erase and recreate the partition table so if you have Windows installed, it could delete it, unless you just delete the Mac OS X partition.

Then just close out of Disk Utility and the installer should resume.

Mine has been stuck on 'Waiting....' for over 2 hours now.

Seriously on the verge of getting a refund. What a horrible farce this is.

Another example is the new scrolling. The old way for desktop-mouse combinations was that scrolling moved the window, which looked into a document behind that window. The new way in Lion is that since you're using a trackpad (you are using a trackpad, aren't you?), you want to interact directly with the document.

Not sure how much more you can directly interact with the document than "I want to move down so lets drag my fingers down"

I think Apple just wanted the finger movements to exactly match iOS which is lame. At least you can disable it.

Agreed. If you are using a mouse, it's weird. But on the trackpad it seems a bit more reasonable.

You could also use Secrets preference pane to make hidden files visible: http://secrets.blacktree.com/

Also still no TRIM support for my Vertex 2 SSD sucks donkey balls

Downloaded in 2 hrs, installed in 30 mins, almost no hitches except for NTFS 3G not being Lion compatible yet, which was a nasty shock, luckily Tuxera 3G is and seems to work fine, phew!
