Apple Launches OS X Lion Via Mac App Store

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that since the retail version of Lion on the Mac App Store is the same build (11A511) as the Gold Master released to developers, you will automatically receive the updates. You're essentially running the retail copy if you installed the Gold Master.

Since the installer that you used to install the GM is the exact same version (1.0.4) as the installer that you would purchase from the Mac App Store, it recognizes that you're buying the exact same thing again. You would pay $30 on top of your already-free copy. (Free excluding the annual developer fee.)

I have GM, but when I try to buy it now from App Store, I get:
"A newer version of this app is already installed on this computer"

Has anyone figured out how to buy this without clean install (of SL and then upgrade)?

The installer is in Applications, titled "Install Mac OS X Lion", or something similar.

To perform a clean install, you need a bootable disc, instructions are here:

Because unlike NORMAL folks, the people who have been waiting up all night for it, have been losing sleep, and hanging out on MR 24/7 (plus all the other Apple fan sites) in feverish anticipation are downloading it all at once.

We're gang-raping Apple's servers. When can anyone or anything function optimally when being gang-raped?

Same problem! June 16th MBP here, and it says the serial number is not found/not valid. What's going on?
 
No luck for me :mad: Despite the high hopes that app store is coming to my country(Cyprus) no luck for me :( App Store is not accepting my local credit card (visa electron) so I've never had access to the goodies of app store. However , with the Lion only be accessed through the App Store I was hoping that finally app store is coming to my country .

Even the local reseller tries to find a way out for acquiring the Lion and supply it to it's customers.

I am a very dissapointed Apple Customer.

I am having the same problem. I ordered my iMac on July 11 from Apple Store.

If you have the GM, you have the retail copy. No need to pay $30 to reinstall the same thing again. You'll automatically get the minor updates. (10.6.X)
 
After lots of quitting the app store and signing out, I'm finally downloading in Australia, 40 minutes remaining.
 
Weird thing happening here. I was downloading Lion and everything went fine. Then, at about 20 %, suddenly I get an error message telling me Lion couldn't be downloaded - and the Lion icon disappeared from my Dock. I clicked "Try again" in the dialog box, and now my computer is downloading at about 2 MB/sec, but the Lion icon hasn't reappeared on the Dock. Activity Monitor shows "storeagent" using about 10 % CPU (of 800 %) and "App Store" using about 6 %.

It must be Lion downloading - invisibly...
