I am kind of jealous of those folks for whom this process works so flawlessly.
Best use case for me has been around 75% success.
Since I have to carry the cards anyway, I usually use those.
Every so often I will give it a try for another week or so.

btw - Google Pay has about the same success rate for me.
If you have Apple Card and get 2% back daily for tapping, you tap. I am at $3,313.34 in cash back, $1,424.57 is from vendors at 1% because they didn't offer tap. That is $1,424.57 that I missed out on because they are not caught up to cashless technology.

Pretty much the same experience for me.

Travelling in Europe, South America has been smooth as butter only using my iPhone.

Africa? Not so much… USA? Also, not so much.

Here in the UK the only time I need cash is for my monthly haircut, A3 colour photocopies at the library and… buying The Big Issue. Most days I only leave the house with my keys and iPhone. Oh and headphones! 🙂
No ID? You kind of have to here in the U.S..

Do have launch the Wallet on the Watch itself or it works just like the phone you just hover it near the terminal and it pops up?
No you don’t need to open the wallet app just double tap the side button select card hover near terminal (works from any screen/ app) the only exception is if you have express transit turned on where you just hover watch over ticket barrier reader and it will just work

This might be the only time the Steve Jobs quote, "You are holding it wrong", is actually accurate. 🥲

I'm amazed how many people wearing an AW pull out their credit card at the store ... ApplePay on the AW is one of my favorite features ...
Are you judging me when checking out at Home Depot? I look more foolish trying to use my iPhone or watch lol
I'm fully convinced that Apple Pay + Apple Watch is the best point-of-sales experience possible. Full stop. At least once a month I "blow away" a sales person who didn't know their terminal could accept contactless payments by using my Watch to pay. So easy, so quick, and always right on my wrist where it is convenient to use. Never used my card (or cash) in England - hoping the US will eventually become as well-covered with contactless payments.
you must have not used CLEAR. It uses your iris.

Much better security

Apple Pay has been around 8 years and they still have to remind people that it exists, kind of sad and not on Apples part.
Then why do you see commercials for Visa, American Express, TVs, etc? It's not that they're reminding us, they're just reminding us to use their products instead of anybody else's, so that they get their cut

Whilst I appreciate the convenance at times I am all for small vendors, bars and restaurants who manage to survive difficult times by not accepting these payment methods that have commissions

Its quite common in Thailand to pay via a scanned QR code on your banking apps via direct transfer

It helps these vendors and the payback is more places stay open its a win win over just being able to tap with a watch

It's quite shocking how the United States are behind with Apple Pay deployment. I didn't pay with my physical credit card in months where I live (Canada), and I can't think of one single store that accepts wireless credit card payment but not Apple Pay. Even Walmart Canada supports Apple Pay.

With that Apple Pay support, I would think that Canada is a great market for Apple Card expansion. Still waiting

Ironic that Alamo doesn’t accept Apple Pay, or even supports adding tickets to your wallet app from the Alamo app.

On the watch you do have to activate it by double clicking the side button first, before you hover the watch near the terminal. It doesn’t detect automatically like the iphone does.

I feel the same way. I also don't find Apple Pay that much more convenient, especially with tap to pay cards. For me the two big obstacles to going all-in on Apple Pay are the fact that it's still not accepted everywhere and that I'm already carrying my wallet anyway. Because I still have to use credit cards in certain places, I default to using a card everywhere. I do love the convenience of Apple Pay when I'm shopping online, though.

what do you do at all those stores that do accept Apple Pay? picking on one of the 2 major stores that do not accept Apple Pay is rather ... well, I was taught that when I don't have anything nice to say not to say anything

really? I do not recall to have to pull out a card cause AP didn't work, with the exception of one Exxon gas station/pump that did show the symbol but it wasn't activated (which I learned when I walked in to complain) ...

Not to mention the additional amount you lost out on by using Apple Card instead of a card that gives you better cash back. With my Bank of America cards, I get 3.6% back on every transaction (because I qualify for their Platinum Honors rewards tier).

Is it really more secure? All I know is that it works much better than any QR-based shopping as that requires a connection that is usually slow inside a brick-and-mortar. I tend to navigate toward Apple Pay gas stations as well.

your perception of convenience is obviously different from mine, while I always have my wallet on me, double-clicking the watch I far more convenient than pulling the wallet nd then cards out, but YMMV

Love Apple Pay it is Apples best service by far.

Works all over the place here in the UK, which is nice because everything else here is ever so broken.

I get that, but I don't wear a watch, so if I'm pulling a phone out of my pocket, activating Apple Pay, selecting the card I want to use, why not pull out my wallet instead?

It really is the best payment system out there. Just used it 3 times so far today. For online, I seek out stores that accept it (Amazon being the only exception).
