I suppose, but is speed the big problem when it comes to iOS? (It isn't IMO)
True to say as things stand, everything past an A9/2GB RAM should run anything in the App store with aplomb, but looking ahead we have reiterated rumours of macs with in-house CPUs, the full Photoshop on iPads, potential for iPads to plug into screens via USB C, and perhaps become an input (on-screen keyboard and trackpad) for a full computer experience.

I remember reading an article years ago either here or on AppleInside saying that Apple has sold more iOS devices in like 5 or so years than its sold Macs in all of Apple's lifetime. In some ways, I can understand Apple focusing on iOS devices. On the other hand, we still need Macs to write the apps for iOS devices.

Yeap, but as I said below I don’t expect big updates.

You predict based on what? An Apple logo from the invite? I doubt very much Apple would hold an event just for iPad. Unless they plan for it to be a short event.

I think we will see Mac updates yes, but it will be treated as an afterthought and how much of an update we will actually get I think will be muted, for instance I think all the iMac will get is a spec bump but it’ll keep the same old internal hard drive etc and muted GPUs.

And I bet you anything all these differ not Apple logos were made in the new Adobe for iPad app on the new iPad Pros.

I certainly don’t expect a Mac Mini Pro. Apple will wait till next March for th it main Mac event where I predict them to launch the new Mac Pro and Apple monitor.

Well get a lot of talk about the new iPads and the new pencil and how th y work so we’ll for artists blah blah blah.. will be interesting to see what they come out with though.

Since none of them seem very striking on purpose-made. I think these showcase an AI element. Where you press a button and your artwork gets turned into one of these preset abominations.

Yeah, I suppose. The big problem has been more iOS itself in terms of productivity/workflow, especially if the idea were to replace one's Mac. For the kinds of things mobile/touch is good at, it's very good. But, it isn't a good replacement.

I suppose plugging into a display, or possibly even adding real input devices could help (which would be better than it becoming a keyboard/trackpad), but doesn't solve some core issues.

You
Love the purple Escher eyeball. Those are some really nice images.

There is nothing REMOTELY Escher-like w/ that eyeball image...
I assume you’re taking about the drawing he did w/ the hyper-realistic eye that has the skull in it?
I don’t see even the vaguest similarity.
There’s no cleverly interlocking repeated patterns or odd perspectives, no impossible geometry; absolutely none of his stylistic elements whatsoever.
Seeing my own eye in the mirror reminds me more of MC Escher than that piece of art.

A new MacBook Air would be good timing - it would be competing with the new ZenBook S/13, Lenovo S730, new MateBook, all due to come out end of this month/next month. The WhiskeyLake ultrabook market should be half decent, especially with the integrated WiFi on the chip, which should provide a better user experience (both Windows and MacOS).

Apple could quite easily make a lot of money.

Apple is a monopoly. These logos represent all the new mini-Apple divisions.

;)

That joke doesn't make any sense. Is it your understanding that a "monopoly" is a company with divisions?

This is obviously about some new pencil/drawing thing for the iPad Pro. Even though it was Steve Jobs who said the best stylus was your finger. But your finger is free and an Apple Pencil costs $100-200 (for new and improved of course).

The pencil isn't a "stylus" - in fact, at first they didn't even let you use it to access controls, which is what Jobs was talking about. It's a creative tool, like a paintbrush, pen, etc. Go back and look at what Jobs actually said - he was speaking about the inviability of designing a user interface that required a stylus (for accessing controls, keyboard keys, buttons, etc.) He never suggested a finger is better than a pen for things like drawing or writing.

I'd be curious to know exactly how many of these graphics there are. If there's 20 of them, that could be a nod to the iMac's 20th anniversary. If that's true, we might be in for a real treat.

I take it new "Pro" ipads with the same boring mobile OS and no mouse support. YIPPEE

One for each product at the event, but it seems like a waste of possible future designs. It shows how Apple can't decide on one thing anymore, although I'm sure it's to highlight the range of possibilities from the new iPads and Macs.
So; which is which?
I'd love to know what represents for example the MacMini or MacPro. Would it give insight as to what to expect...?

I wonder if Apple wants to wait until the Mac Mini 2014 model passes the 5 year mark before updating it?
I'll supply the usual reminder:
MacMini 2014 was a downgrade (or attempt to kill it off). It's been 6 years since 2012, so already beyond the quintuple anniversary.

Better timing would have been 3 years ago - I might have bought one instead of a Surface Pro.

Please oh please a new iMac and/or Mac Mini - I’ve waited all summer since my 2011 iMac died (unless someone can get me a reliable graphics card replacement)

Don’t care about the iPad Pro... Macs please!

I'm in the exact same boat with my iMac 2011 failing a few months ago.

I think my CPU failed in it. But the GPU was swapped out a few years ago when it failed and I got in on the recall and replacement program. So I wonder if I've got a working GPU sitting in it.

I really didn’t like Microsoft’s decision to not include USB-C with TB3, and I can’t get used to those keyboards (we have Surface Pro’s as our work machines, but thank god it is just hooked up to a monitor with a keyboard/mouse 90% of the time!).

Good screens however.

Excited for iPad Pro updates to replace my aging Air 2 (still a workhorse!).

Not holding my breath for anything computer related.

I hope the changing logos and all the variations are alluding to the modularity of the new Mac Pro.

Don’t hold your breath, they will most likely wait until WWDC 2019 for that. I’m hoping they will show the new iPads, then Tim will start to explain how important the Mac is to Apple and probably announce at least the new “budget” MacBook and maybe an iMac update, might even give people the space gray option across the line.

Wonder if a new version of Airpods or the much rumoured headphones could make an appearance.
