I registered mine on Sunday and got the email saying I would have a box within two business days. Nothing yet, as of Thursday. Are they sending the packets via FedEx or does it vary?

I submitted my request on the 12th/Saturday and got the fedex box today, 17th/Thursday. I had to sign for the box and it was shipped by priority overnight.

It is most likely more cost efficient to unload inventory of all generations of ipod nanos that are laying around instead of spending money to refurb a bunch of 1st gens.

Getting a new Nano in exchange for your old one seems too good to be true, but how much would it cost to dissassemble an old Nano, replace the battery and fit a new case, compared to grabbing a new Nano out of a warehouse and sending it out to you

You were saying?!?!?!

@sclawis300 and @SvenSvenson do you still think you'll get a freebie current gen iPod? So we HAVE seen

I don't suppose anyone in the UK fancies swapping their nice shiny refurbished white 1G 1GB nano for my nice shiny refurbished black 1G 1GB nano when I receive it do they?

black ones were 2GB, white ones 4GB so you are not exactly tradiing like for like, are you?

Be nice to know what replacement is, I think my mom has an old one that she no longer uses. It would be nice to have a nano around if it's a newer one. If it's the same thing it's probably not worth it.

It is going to be refurbished 1st gen nano with replaced front, back and display.

I actually like it more (I still remember the thrill when it came out and I had in in my hands) than any of the newer generations, but if you don't then it's ok.

It's refurbished. For free. How can that not be worth it..? It costs you nothing...!

Ermmm... my black was 4GB...

I still wonder what are they going to replace with..Even i too had a severe problem with my battery..It went totally damaged..And more over i hope that they accept mine without the battery..

It will be replaced with a refurbished 1st gen nano - new back front, screen etc. See the article on the front page.

do you mean you removed your battery yourself...? Not quite sure what they will think of that, so good luck!

Firstly, you obviously have no idea what you're talking about as other forum members have pointed out.

Secondly, it's not as though I didn't offer to trade my black 1GB nano for another member's white 1GB nano. Presumably you did read my post before you made such a condescending reply...didn't you!?!? (rhetorical).

Get back in your box, that is all.

Hell, it was only recently Apple finally obsoleted the first generation 2001 iPods, up until then you could still order pristine refurbished units (with not a scratch, chip or even a single battery cycle on them).

What's the difference between a brand new unit and a refurbished one without a battery cycle? Sounds like brand new and unused to me :)
Or will Apple replace my Nano with one that is used/second hand (possibly also with a different color than the one I bought) but with the same memory size?

Please, please, please show me a post where I said we WOULD get anything other than a first gen back. I said it was most likely going to be more cost effective to dump stock from any generation laying around. I never said we would get the current one.

READING COMPREHENSION FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess your screen name is somewhat accurate, you just didn't spell it right.

I submitted my service request last Sunday and no box was sent as of today, Friday. I called Apple said they have such an overwhelming response and advised to call back if no box was sent to me within a months time...

The rep was also unclear from his information as to what I would get back exactly. It seems like Apple didn't count on this large of a response and justifies why their verbiage was so vague...

I'm wondering if I can just go to apple store to get this done.

I seriously wonder what is up!
I registered my request for a replacement last Saturday, received an e-mail the same day stating that I within two (2) working days should receive instructions and the box for returning the iPod. One week later I am still waiting for the instructions and box...

Not too promising!

Got the box (UK, day 5 after registering). The 2 day thing in the registration email and the return by 10 day thing is a red herring. Spoke to Apple. They will honour returns. Getting more returns than they had expected (obviously because because their machines keep going for a very long time...)

I've never seen a "refurbished" iPod. Many have mentioned that they will replace the front casing, back casing, and battery. Will they also replace the clickwheel and the related components that are under the clickwheel ?

After 6 years, a sticky/less responsive clickwheel is really my only complaint at this point with the device. That's not a knock against the product - it simply has just worn out from hundreds of hours of use. If they don't make the clickwheel "as new" with the refurbish then this will be a waste of time.
