Wacom don't need to lower there prices because they are the best in the business. Some silly mobile device with a 100 dollar pencil won't even touch the performance of a Wacom I would imagine.

Not to mention did apple mention the pressure sensitivity of there pen input? Which is highly important for an artist.

I would disagree. Wacom has been stagnant for the last couple of years and I could imagine Apple coming close enough to wacom territory. Also since Microsoft bought N-trig inhouse I bet they won't stay still neither.

"It doesn't fit into my workflow so it must be crap!" -Every Macrumors comment.

Seriously. I'm way more open to changing my workflow slightly than dealing with the host of nagging issues presented by the Surface Pro. It's an okay device, but some of us prefer the simplicity of the iPad and iOS. No battery issues, no sluggish software, no display scaling issues, no confused hybrid touch/mouse OS, no fan and no heat throttling. And no over-engineered kickstand. If you need the full OS or a laptop, yeah the Surface might be a better buy, but I happen to like iOS and there are tons of productive apps and more on the way I'm sure. Plus with the new multitasking features in iOS9 it's becoming a lot more functional (draw in one app with references on the side). I already have a beastly desktop workstation and a Cintiq, I don't need to duplicate all that on the go.

Same mobile OS that doesn't have the applications most people use to make money as a pro.

I'm talking about desktop class software by the way.

You have to think outside the box of a few office, design and cad/cam apps. There are a significant number of enterprise/"pro" applications in the vertical market, combined with a way more effective workflow when using a tablet.

My medical colleagues lit up my inbox during the presentation and I'm already in discussion with professionals in the criminal investigation space about using larger tablets for evidence (including photos) acquistion.

meh. Apple misnamed the device... it isn't an "iPad Pro", it's an "iPad RT".

(1) your avatar change threw me off. :p

(2) It really didn't bring the software I was expecting. It is really just a larger iPad. I'd like to use one before I case judgment, but I think the 9.7" version is still more practical for me. Now there is no iPad Air 3 in the year I was going to upgrade. I won't buy 2014 hardware after getting burned on the iPad 3.

I want an Air 3 with stylus input...I wonder if there will really be no October event.

Yea But what you can do with this pro, you can do with the normal air. NOTHING about this device screams pro.

Is having a few inches more screen size going greatly help your work flow?

Thank goodness it didn't cost $999 like I thought it would. It only costs $1070 to own it as its meant to be used (pen+cover). $799 gets you the basic experience. Now spending $999 on an iPad Pro that I thought could run OS X doesn't seem like such a bad deal after all.

I wish I could play with this one but I see what my last $699 iPad 2 and 299$ iPad mini look like since my kids took them over. No thanks, getting mad at the kids for messing up a $100 pen or scuffing up and griming up a $170 bluetooth keyboard (can it even work without being attached?) is not my idea of a good time anymore.

But for anyone with older kids, its a nice upgrade from the iPad for sure. I doubt they will allow other people to make their own pens or smart connector devices though. So you better start saving up for the value added peripherals tax.

What concerns me was that during the demos the presenters used their finger for the majority of the actions on the iPad. They only used the pencil for a very limited set of actions. f you can't use the stylus for all navigation, selection, etc. then it seems pretty pointless. (no pun intended) Anyone else notice that?

Reactions: OS X Dude
I'm wondering it will support usb thumb drive. Ipad pro is almost a laptop, I think it should be at least able to read a pen drive.

Can someone please explain this to me?

People complain that Microsoft just tried to put a Tablet interface to Windows.
People (generally) don't like when iOS features/changes are put into OSX
People LOVE when OS X/Windows features are put in iOS(multi tasking, side by side apps)
People want the apps they ALREADY use on desktop to have iOS versions.

It seems to me that people CLEARLY just want OS X to have a tablet interface, and for its most common apps to have Tablet mode UI's. So why do people bitch about Microsoft starting from this direction and working to perfect it, when Apple is clearly just coming the other way? To me OS X and iOS are clearly going to eventually collide as x86-64 chips start to use less power and work better in tablets. Some phones and tablets are already using Intel CPU's.

you are aware this isnt just a blutooth pen right?
Me? Yeah I know that. I'm referring to the missed opportunity to include a place to store the Apple Pencil within the new case. Seems that would have been really handy for lots of people. The pencil doesn't appear to have a shirt pocket clip, so I guess you carry in your back pocket?

Looks like a nice machine if the app devs come out with decent stuff to run on it. I really hope the rest of the ipad line gets stylus support in the future too. Heck id like it if the iphone supported it too.

Saw it coming, will see it leave.
Unless you are nearsighted, this is just a silly product.

Yes, definitely. Screen estate is a major help in some works, I don't even need to exemplify any. Will it justify the upgrade price is subjective though, I won't. I prefer Air lightness, but I can see the point for PRO. It's a niche product for mass market. Eventually Apple will make a lighter PRO or bigger Air, whichever, but this is mostly for production use. Non commercial apps can utilise PRO better.

The problem I see is with only 32GB, the $799 model is worthless. There is no 64GB model so you have to spend almost a thousand bucks to get the next model. They completely priced themselves out of my budget. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd go ahead and buy a MB.

Exactly.... I wanted one for years simply as "a bigger Ipad" so I could download magazines from around the world and read without squinting or zooming. Or stream a race that my cable provider does not broadcast, just a little bigger...

So my options are either a $800 32GB tablet which is laughable (filled up in a day or 2), or go crazy with the 128GB (in which case you *should* get the pen, keyboard, and need Applecare) and after taxes it's probably a $1600 Ipad. Please.

Dammit Apple... $700 for a 64GB would have been a sweet spot and still plenty of profit. Now that's just greedy. No buy.
