Hehe, quite funny to read this comic strip from 2012 today:

There were keyboard covers for iPads and other tablets years before the Surface even existed.

(1) your avatar change threw me off. :p

(2) It really didn't bring the software I was expecting. It is really just a larger iPad. I'd like to use one before I case judgment, but I think the 9.7" version is still more practical for me. Now there is no iPad Air 3 in the year I was going to upgrade. I won't buy 2014 hardware after getting burned on the iPad 3.

I want an Air 3 with stylus input...I wonder if there will really be no October event.
haha... I was overdue for a change.

I had been waiting for the reveal of the iPad Pro before deciding what to do about my iPad 2 and iPad 4. Now I know... full steam ahead on getting an Air 2. I believe that it will be the long-hauler of that generation.

I'm also questioning whether there is palm rejection for the Apple Pencil:
See the 3:00 mark....

And during this entire video....

I want to want one, but I can't. I've tried to use Excel and Numbers on an iPad and it's a miserable experience compared to a full laptop (macbook air). To be a truly functional enterprise computer replacement, it needs trackpad or mouse support when docked to the keyboard. Trying to select a range of cells, input formula, etc with your finger on the screen and using the keyboard is a PITA.

I use my laptop for photo editing, and the iPad Pro would be PERFECT for this if only it ran full Creative Cloud apps, like Photoshop and Lightroom. It won't since it doesn't utilize OS X which just totally kills the usefulness of the Apple Pencil add-on for me. If the iPad Pro could emulate the functionality of the Cintiq Companion 2 and work along side a Mac or Macbook, that would be great, but not having to be connected to another computer and to have full functionality is what I've been clamoring for. I would have jumped on the Cintiq Companion 2 if it weren't for Windows.

So close but yet so far... Maybe iPad Pro 2, Apple.

What exactly is Pro about this iPad though? I has more speakers and supports a stylus and external keyboard. 2 of which could be fitted to any iPad and should be!

I personally like the 9" iPad and if it supported Pencil I would buy one tomorrow. It dont though so another year with no iPad for me as I only really want one for my art.

That's most definitely mac territory price wise...
I could see this, and the accessories, being the go-to option for people looking for a general use laptop in the next 3-5 years. Workstations like the 15" rMBP will obviously still be around, for those who want them. The Air line seems to be getting phased out, and the rMB brings the laptop toward the iPad versus anything else.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the pressure sensitivity levels of the pen lol surely that is the most important thing?

"The only thing we didn’t reinvent was the alphabet … and a slot to store your amazing new Apple Pencil."

Agreed. Would have like to see a storage slot for the pencil on the new keyboard. But to me, it's not really that big of a deal.

Doesn't need it. The pencil does that instead.
It wouldn't need if one were the use the pencil for all interactions. I think this is a case of giving the iPhone (a much bigger seller and moneymaker) the priority for this new technology. And maybe also more difficulties in implementing this on a 13" screen on a device which pushes weight boundaries (if one were to use the original iPad as the first tablet light enough for casual use) and 3D touch very likely adds a little bit of weight.

Underwhelmed so far. Apple Pencil (stupid name) looks pretty neat; not an innovation, but a refined, high quality version of something we've had for decades. Would have liked to see a hybrid OS X/iOS. Meh.

Pencil -- LOL revolution back to the 80s..something called "Stylus"

i thought i was watching Surface Pro 3 keynote for the Ipad crap.

SMH. You can just buy a MacBook Air instead of messing around with a limited "pro" iPad. At least the regular iPad was great as a toy. This thing is like those "innovative" motorcycles that have 3 wheels for absolutely no reason and are simply worse than regular motorcycles.

Being able to edit three streams of 4K video simultaneously is a pretty impressive claim, and shows major performance potential for this device. Adobe should develop an iPad Pro version of Premiere Pro.

Does the pen and keyboard work with the rest of the line. That's all I'm interested in?
The keyboard definitely not, it needs the extra ports on the side of the iPad for communication and power supply. The Air 2 from last year definitely doesn't have them, and they haven't been mentioned on the Mini 4 either.

Say what you will about Apple, they can sure as hell make a damn appealing commercial. I mean the thing is basically a Surface 3 with some extra snazz, but they can make it seem like so much more.
True. But a minor correction, the iPad Pro is basically a limited Surface RT.

The charging method for the Pencil seems a bit ridiculous.
If it could have used the new side ports (that the keyboard uses) for charging, it would have been great but maybe that connection isn't strong enough to even keep the pencil in place.

I'll pass. Feel like the Surface is a better buy. iOS is meant to be simple and portable. A 12" tab to me seems like a formal productivity device that should get x86 programing.

Looks cool. Can't wait to see what the second and third versions can do.
