Like the cell phone?
I would argue that Apple didn't have any real luxury brand competitors in the cellular phone space. Apple essentially created the luxury cellular phone market if we're being honest. Blackberry was always a niche for volume texter consumers and business users. Furthermore, cell phones simply did not have the same entrenchment of legacy brands as automobiles because the technology is far more mature before the iPhone even was released than cell phones were in 2007.

The best the EPA can say is “typically” and they readily acknowledge that “some studies have shown that making a typical EV can create more carbon pollution than making a gasoline car.”

Nice cherry picked sentence. In the following sentence the epa says overall evs are cleaner. But no matter, people are gonna believe what they want.

Tesla is getting hit pretty hard by horrible publicity and extremely negative perceptions of its CEO. That has suppressed their potential customer base and will likely lead to the entire company failing… unless Musk divests himself or sells it. Because he’s not going to suddenly become rational and effective.

In spite of that Tesla has the best selling model in the world.

The Model S, 3, X and Model Y are amazing cars. I haven't driven a Cyber Truck but the amount of Vision literally and figuratively it took to build those vehicles is incredible.

Anyone that has driven one knows what I mean. OTA updates? I rarely have to go to the dealership. Once in four years? No oil changes. I will never get an ICE vehicle again.

Could it be that apple wasn’t attempting to produce just another EV? Nah.

Nah indeed. Apple couldn't build a Level 5 car. They couldn't build a Level 2 car either.

Last year, Apple pivoted one last time. Designs were tweaked to move from Level 5 down to Level 2, the level of Tesla’s current Autopilot, which can control both speed and steering but is assistive technology for drivers rather than their replacement. In keeping with that, the new design also incorporated a more traditional automotive interface: a steering wheel and pedals. “They finally smartened up,” says an Apple executive. “I was like, ‘Guys, you could have done this 10 years ago!’”

Recently, members of the Apple car organization were studying how the company would produce the less-advanced car. It considered working with Magna International Inc., which builds some models for Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes. But the indecision at the top of the company filtered down, sapping morale. Apple declined to comment for this story, as did BMW, Ford, McLaren, VW and Mercedes. The former Apple executives named in this story didn’t respond to requests for comment, nor did Canoo.

NEWS FLASH: Look Tim Cook just sold Apple shares. What a coincidence! Any guesses as to what happens with their earnings report?
Tim selling Apple stock was set up well in advance. He can't sell stock on a whim like the rest of us. If the could, the SEC would be on him like stink on 💩 with accusations of insider trading and/or stock manipulation.

Not for long. BYD sells almost as many vehicles and Tesla sales are sagging YOY.

Yeah. It even says that in the article.

So you agreed with my statement, then. It’s true, you know who is controversial but it doesn’t stop people from buying their electric vehicles.

He can choose not to sell the stocks. He even gets to choose how many. Would anyone like to predict how the stock does YoY with sales of IPhones/IPad/MacBooks and the DOJ investigation. It isn't looking good.

Apple likes to not discuss numbers of units anymore. That's interesting isn't it. Why would they do that. ;)

Pyrrhic victory. Tesla only makes a couple models. Add together sales of all BYD vehicle models and compare that total to Tesla’s overall sales. Tesla currently has a SLIM edge, but BYD’s sales are expanding rapidly while Tesla’s is shrinking. So you haven’t really achieved the masterful gotcha that you think you have.

I don’t buy that. Cook already has more than enough money even without any of his current Apple stock holdings. As the article clearly points out, he didn’t DO anything but let his contract play out. Making that into a conspiracy theory is silly.

A victory is a victory. BYD imo is in trouble more than Tesla, but we’ll see. One project juniper is available imo sales will skyrocket.

Interestingly enough...BYD is not planning to come to the US. I guess it is related to tariffs. Tesla knows how to make it work. Look at what they did during production hell as Elon called it. They made it happen. Sales go up and down for all car makers. Once Tesla gets ramped up with other factories and models it will maintain. Tesla's Tech is too good. Unreal.

EVs will not be better for the environment until we stop burning coal and natural gas and whatever other heavy carbon emissive process is used. Also the electrical grid is no where ready for everyone and their brother to be charging cars.

It will probably end up like most everything else the government touches, the mandate will come to fruition or pass that bans ICE vehicles and then the power grid will go down shortly after. 🤣
If we’re to get off of fossil fuels, we need to figure out how to power our things with clean energy one way or another.
I believe it’s a solvable problem, but we need sufficient motivation, which we haven’t had until (hopefully) now. It likely won’t be a smooth or quick transition, and maybe won’t ever be total, but the only thing I know is sitting on our hands and sticking to our old ways is not the answer.

Again, mass transit? If everyone doesn’t have to have their own car…

The video I saw showed a car that looked very similar to Tesla and when they unlock the door, they use the key card just like the Tesla. They might as well put a Xiaomi sticker onto a Tesla key card.
If you’re familiar with Model 3 sized EV sedans like the Hyundai Ioniq 6, BYD Seal, Porche Taycan, and Mercedes EQE sedan etc. you’ll know they all take a pretty similar shape (an aerodynamic blob with minor differences in the styling and headlights, which I personally find really boring). NFC card based entry has been commonplace for many car brands now, especially new EVs. Xiaomi has introduced nothing particularly innovative but none of what you raised is really indicative of them directly copying Tesla.

All phones are pretty much a square pane of glass with cameras on the back. Other than the sides rounded or square and maybe camera positions there’s not much to copy when it comes to hardware. The copying is in the software.

If you take a look at the last few versions of MIUI, it’s not particularly original but it’s pretty much in line with many other android OEMs like Samsung or Oppo in how it has certain design elements borrowed from iOS. Again, it doesn’t feel like xiaomi is particularly more prone to produce clones of Apple products in their more recent products compared to other OEMs.
