Apple became too slow. The self driving car and battery-car hype is gone as well as the metaverse hype (Vision Pro). They must now put their reserves to AI otherwise they will be too late there too cause that impact will be more massive than battery cars or metaverse.

Apple Car cancelled.

Vision Pro turned out to be a clunky and overpriced tech demo.

iPhone and iPad stalling in the development department.

It's currently not looking good for Apple.
Oh no…. Apple is doomed! 😂😂😂. What a crock…

This is normal in the course of business. Hopefully these employees have been highly paid and coming out with a good severance package. On the whole, they should be able to easily find new employment.

For Apple, nothing ventured nothing gained. This shows that they are still daring enough to try big new things. Onward and upward.
This just shows that Apple doesn’t seem to be able to innovate. They didn’t release a new successful category of products for quite some time. The last one was the Apple Watch and that was a decade ago.

Okay, let’s just pretend that the AVP isn’t innovative and that everyone isn’t copying Apple's ARM chips for laptops, or someone else managed to bring Spatial Audio to a phone. What innovations are you going to claim from Google, Samsung, Xiaomi or any other tech company? I’ll wait…

I would love to see Apple put the rest of those teams to work on shoring up the rest of Apple's portfolio. It would be nice if all of the announced features for operating systems launch on time.
I agree with you completely. However, this isn’t as easy as that. Many to most of these people specialize in specific areas that just don’t transfer into other areas. A person that specializes in self driving vehicles or say battery technology, wouldn‘t have the skill set for shoring up the App Store or the like. Nor would many of them be happy working outside their desired skill set. But yes, I agree with your premise.

AVP is definitely not successful, I don’t think at this point someone is arguing I it is. It is also not innovative, you are correct. The only innovation is the high resolution displays that Apple did not design or produce and that other manufacturers did not use because of their exorbitant cost. Every other aspect of the Vision Pro is either already present (often in a better form) in other visors or an absolute joke (like eyesight or whatever that’s called).

The ARM chips are… ARM. Apple could just use a lot of cores because they can afford putting a huge (and hence expensive) silicon chip in their products. It’s hardly innovative and nobody is copying this approach. It also has significant downsides, shown in the lacklustre and almost pointless Mac Pro, that has pretty much zero modularity, the main selling point of that product category. It also doesn’t have better performance than the Mac Studio, as the system on a chip approach is not very scalable, hence they resorted to glue two chips together, but there are diminishing returns and gluing four probably wouldn’t offer significant benefits whilst costing significantly more.

We are witnessing a repeat of Xerox and the like from the 1970s. Apple continues to develop and innovate, but is no longer able to go to market with new products. Even in the 90s Apple was trying many different things.

I want them to prove me wrong.
I always thought a car would be a terrible idea. Very capital intensive and most likely to fail. Look at the big EV slow down.

600 people is a lot. And a 2000 person team. All for it to be scrapped?

With a team that large you’d think they would have really been able to create something amazing.

The whole Apple Car project was built around the idea of autonomous driving.

Once it became clear that AD isn't feasible for the next decade or possibly much longer, Apple's plans were essentially screwed.

The problem was never that Apple couldn't create a good EV, but rather that Apple's long-stated strategy is to only enter industries where they can offer significant value and differentiation over what is already present.

In the case of AC, no amount of pivoting was going to save the project.

How wrong you are.

The AVP is the best on the market. And successful after a month? Who can base it on that. The watch wasn't successful in a month either, but now it’s the most popular selling watch on the planet! If you even bothered to look at ANY independent reviews you wouldn’t be talking so much rubbish. Everyone except Zuckerberg says it’s the best on the market.

Qualcomm, Mediatek, Nvidia, and AMD are all trying to copy Apples ARM chips. But they’re nobodies right? Geesh. Here’s some background for you

And I noticed you ignore the Spatial Audio comment because you know you were wrong. Who did It first? The biggest music streaming on the planet still doesn’t have lossless audio either?

No innovation since the Apple Watch… what a joke!

You also didn’t even address the idea that someone else has innovated as much as Apple (who apparently haven’t done so in 10 years)! Or are you busy writing that extraordinary list?

EVs are in a bit of a slump at the moment. Petrol/Gas cars growing in demand again.

Apple keeps making questionable strategic decisions... then fails to execute (Apple Car) or gives birth to a dud (Apple Vision Pro).

Meanwhile ...iPad, iPhone, ATV etc have stagnated.

I bet a hundred years from now, the transportation and military of the new society post ours will be built on the strangely heavily funded research and development all these companies did this past decade. Tons of research went into self driving cars, tons is going into robots, tons is going into AI, tons is going into fuel cells and low power usage. Nothing to see here folks. Just a natural progression of tech that companies would spend so much, develop it to actual working models, and do nothing spectacular with it. None of the things I mentioned could be related in any way. Cue terminator music.

Tech employees are having a rough go at it lately. When a $100k job in any other industry pays $200k+ because "coding", something is bound to give. Price to end consumer matters.
That's an odd statement... like saying "When a $15/hr butchering job in any other industry pays $200k because "surgery" something is bound to give"...

Excellent "coding" is extremely tough and few folks can do it (though managers and execs still quantify them in kgs/lbs of coders and cost per kg/lb)... hence why most software sucks.

Imagine that. People get laid off after being hired for a very specific job after that specific job gets canceled. We should see the, "BuT cOuLdN't aPpLe JuSt KeEp ThEm AnYwAy WiTh HoW mUcH MoNeY ThEy hAvE?!" comments anytime now. Like Apple is supposed to be a welfare system or something. lol.

A cheap copy of a Tesla. It’s nice when you’re in a country that doesn’t enforce copyright laws
The fact is, China is where the innovation is now. The US has lost it ... too many lawyers and bankers. China used to copy, now it leads in science and technology. Hard for Americans to take, but get used to it (like the rest of the World).

Car market is very niche. Just think. If thousands of people can buy iPhones yearly (often those are on cellular contracts, not neverlock models), how many people will be eager to buy a new car that comes from computer company with no established reputation in car market?

The second problem is parts, they would need a supplier for them. So technically they will buy parts from 3rd company, make a design, put software and call it… Apple car?

The third problem is maintenance. Apple Care can barely fix laptops and iPhones in US, imagine what happens if they are gonna open car services.

There is really no point for Apple to invest even more money in what will not be something revolutionary that will be sold like hotcakes throughout the world (and not on 2nd hand market). Everyone already seen smart cars, EV cars.

Maybe one day Apple makes flying cars that look like drones. Or maybe they will find a way to make cars last long. Until then, it is highly unlikely they are gonna enter this market.

Also we are yet to see what happens with EVs in future. They are highly unsustainable for the environment, and lithium will probably go up in price. Hydrogen vehicles look way more promising, unfortunately at the price of safety. On the other hand fuel can ignite too
