Need a good power pack, big power pack. The best power pack, for AI.

iPhone 16 Pro will ship with a diesel generator for those moments when you need the assistance of Apple Intelligence.

* said generator can also power a house, a train, or in emergency circumstances a ship.

We are so excited to see what you do with Apple Generator

Coming to all devices with A18 Apple Silicon and available later this fall.

Note: Green credentials of iPhone 16 do not include contributions from Apple Generator. Apple generator is operated at your own risk, only use in well ventilated area and away from Apple HQ.

It's weird because there was never a "normal" A17, just the A17 Pro.
I still think there may be, there’s probably some binned chips from that run somewhere, considering they said yield was low, maybe they’ll end up in Apple TV or iPad mini or something

I’m hoping it’s just A18 and A18 pro with maybe one more GPU core in the new iPhones

Wondering if Apple will slim down the offered products to just iPhone 16 (and Pro), iPhone 15 and iPhone SE4 to remove all lightning phones from the lineup, or if they'll just not offer the 14 in Europe?
Apple and all associated third-party sellers of Apple products can keep selling all Lightning port devices until stock runs out.

Apple is only prohibited from selling non-USB-C iPhones and similarly sized small consumer electronics products that have launched and/or been manufactured after December 28.

I'm not sure why Apple would pull iPhone 14 in the EU when it can just discount it heavily and minimize losses?

Then again, none of us know exactly what Apple spends on every iPhone 14 created. Maybe losses are so small that it's better to just go full USB-C at once and ditch all the Lightning crap?

I see Apple keeping iPhone 14 post iPhones 16 launch but at new, very low price, and then silently removing it from the official line-up when the last inventory eventually runs out.

Looking forward to the iPhone SE4
Wonder if the iPhone SE still holds an lcd-display and same form factor and touch sensor. Competition have cheaper phones with full front amoled and punch hole front facing cameras for years.

Would be nice if the new iPhone SE4 would look similar to a mini sized iPhone 15/16.

My wishful thinking… probably the iPhone SE6 will have these features in 2030 🤣😂🤣

I wonder if Apple will cripple the amount of ram and CPU/GPU power available to a phone owner if they turn off Apple Intelligence.

It's going to be the iPhone 14 with a single rear camera and A18.

One key reason that could justify a $800 phone with 60hz display was their top of the line chip in these base models, but Apple seems to have lost their chip superiority even with their flagship A17 Pro to Dimensity 9300 at least in multi core, there are even rumors about next SD chip beating A18 Pro so I'm not exactly sure why they are still downgrading base models even further since iPhone 14, it's not like they cost less or have a high refresh rate display or literally anything better now.
Base model iPhone is just a horrible deal, flagship price yet 60hz display, no telephoto camera, no LTPO.
I'm not sure how iPhone 15/Plus owners felt when Apple announced that they won't get AI on a phone that they bought less than a year ago.

About time. Can't charge top-of-the-line prices while putting old chips in the devices. I am sure the only reason they are doing this is because of AI though.
Last year's PRO chip works with AI, so they could have done what they have been doing just fine.

Do we know for certain it won't be A18 and A18 Pro? I could see them having a variant with a different GPU core count like the Macs.

I wonder how Apple intends to move forward though. Their recent chips have been more powerful, sure, but they also put out much more heat. What's the point of more power if it makes the phone a handwarmer? not to mention throttling.

First, please remember that a 60hz display is quite acceptable to many iPhone owners. The same goes for no telephoto lens. Some of us don’t need it and others, like me, have “real” cameras. Not everyone has the same priorities. And, second, I own an iPhone 15 Plus and I was relieved that won’t be getting much of AI. Again, not everyone has the same set of priorities and many of us see a lot of problems and risks with AI. But for those who want it, fantastic. Knock yourselves out.

I've been wondering if Apple could get away with shipping the base iPhone with a 60Hz display in 2024. The 15 Pro is my very first 120Hz iPhone and I love it, but not sure if it's a too flgashippy feature or are we over this now?

It will be interesting to see how they differentiate the 'Pro' line of phones if they have the same CPU. My guess is that will mostly be the camera hardware and the ProMotion display.

That is pretty much how they differentiated them when they all were on the same SoC class.

As others have noted, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro family SoC differentiation was due more to the high cost and low yields of the N3B process used for the A17 Pro. The A18 family will be fabricated on the new N3E process which is less expensive to manufacture and has fairly better yields so Apple can once again use it in all iPhone models for that generation.

Seems unlikely Apple will stop the differentiation in CPU because Pro is simply too profitable.

Same "A18" but it doesn't mean the base iPhone 16 will have identical GHz, core- and GPU-counts, or VRM/thermal limits as the iPhone 16 Pro.

I'm not sure why anyone would even consider to defend Apple's decision of having 60hz display on a premium phone.
The majority of iPhone owners might be fine with a chipset that has half the performance as well, doesn't mean they should go for that option when it still stays at flagship price point. 120hz display will not cost Apple anything, there are $150 phones with 120hz display, the only reason they keep it that way is to sell Pro models, and majority of people are going for them because the base model at that price point literally feels like a scam compared to other options.
The concerning part about not getting new software features within a year is longevity, Samsung released their AI stuff to S21 series, Apple cannot do it even on their current series because they cheaped out on RAM and apparently they are not gonna upgrade RAM on 16PM this year either. it's crazy how fast tables turned because 2 years ago one of the main reasons to consider an iPhone would have been superior longevity to competition but it seems to be all gone now.
It's not hard to imagine that in WWDC 2025 they announce some new AI feature that will not work on 16PM because it got no upgrade to RAM, just like what happened to 14 Pro Max users.
