but the rep took one look at it and gave me a new replacement….no questions asked.
well the first half was sarcastic and the last half was reporting on the issues people reported in this forum. In 30 years and dozens of devices later, I have only been to the Apple Store once with a defective device. That was my iPhone 5 and the battery swelled to lift the screen. It was 2 years old and out of warranty, but the rep took one look at it and gave me a new replacement….no questions asked. My wife still uses her original iPad Air. Yes, it doesn’t update to the latest iPad OS, but it looks like the day we bought it and plays Netflix with no problems. I had both a 2012 MBP and Mac Mini. Kept them each for 7 years until I updated to an i9 16” MBP…and they both worked and looked like the day I got them. All of my Apple products are used for business and pleasure, and not babied. So, my personal experience just doesn’t jive with yours and the other guys assertions. Plenty of friends and family that have used Apple for years with no problems or complaints also.![]()

Based on the devices you listed, you got lucky and skipped the problematic MacBook years. 2012 Retina-2015 has the screen coating delamination problem, 2016-2017 has the display cable issue, 2016-2018 has the butterfly keyboard problem. Recent iPhones have spraodic reports of battery health dropping faster than expected
I'm also experiencing problems with the external drives disconnecting on Sleep (with my current MBP 14" 2021), USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices working as Gen 1 speeds, and poor USB Ethernet chip compatibility (Native PCIe vs ECM vs NCM drivers and needing to do chip lottery to find one that uses PCIe or NCM drivers). Those are software/firmware issues that Apple is refusing to acknowledge and fix.I went through I think 6 replacements of my iPhone 3GS (white) with the shell cracking on the corners problems
There have been so many Apple product issues over the years
Anyone who's avoided most of them or come through nearly clean should consider themselves fortunate
I think this scenario is quite likely, unfortunately!I would hate to get this, upgrade it, then find out its almost same price as M4 Max Studio will be.
Not smaller but a refreshed style.Shrink the size, inflate the price.
Was anyone really saying “I wish my Mini was smaller?”
I’m sure Tim is cutting costs with a smaller frame, but you know those savings won’t be passed onto the consumer.
You ask "Why should we have to buy additional hardware to get basic functionality" and the answer is that is what happens at the low end. Higher end devices (e.g. Studio) with far more competence are available for those who need more. Why should we have to buy additional hardware to get basic functionality out of existing hardware? I sold my M2 Mini because it was ridiculous that I'd need to spend money on docks and hubs because of arbitrary Apple hardware limitations.
Why are USB specs 5v 900ma? This isn't 1999.
Why are there so few ports, are we rationing them?
Why do SFF and Micro Desktops from competitors have more ports than Apple?
My Apple Card is begging to come out of my wallet for a 16 or 24GB Unified Memory 512GB SSD M4 Mac Mini. Why wait?
Apple has seemingly leaked the rumored next-generation Mac mini with five USB-C ports, according to a code change within Apple software that was discovered today by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris.

The code refers to an unreleased Mac mini model with an Apple silicon chip and five ports, which lines up with a previous report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman that said the next Mac mini will be equipped with five USB-C ports. Similar to the Mac Studio, Gurman said two of the ports will be located on the front of the new Mac mini. Technically speaking, at least some of these ports will likely be Thunderbolt 4 ports, which use the USB-C connector design.
The exact string is "Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port)."
Gurman expects the Mac mini to receive its first major redesign since 2010 this year. He said the new model will be nearly as small as an Apple TV, feature M4 and M4 Pro chip options, and lack the USB-A ports included on previous models. The current Mac mini was released in January 2023 and has four Thunderbolt 4 ports and two USB-A ports, along with an HDMI port, Gigabit Ethernet port, and a headphone jack.
The next Mac mini is rumored to be announced at Apple's next event in October, alongside some other M4 Macs and a new iPad mini.
Our image above is merely a mockup of what a smaller Mac mini might look like.

I guess some people would prefer the good ol' days.

You got four years on me. My first Apple produce was the Bondi blue iMac in 1998. I really haven’t had many over the years because I keep them for so long. The iMac G3, a MacBook from I forget when, a G4 big box, two iMacs including my current M3, and a 2012 mini. Of all those, I had a cd drive problem with the first iMac and Apple had a tech replace the drive but he messed up the display so Apple sent a refurbished iMac and the display on the MacBook went wonky years past the warranty date and I just ditched it as it was really old anyway. Oh, I forgot, two iPhones (a 5 and my current XsMax) an iPod touch (still going), original iPad (also still going), a mini iPad (still going), and an iPad Pro now two generations old (obviously still going). So long lasting stuff and only one warranty issue which was quickly resolved in good faith. In 30 years and dozens of devices later, I have only been to the Apple Store once with a defective device. That was my iPhone 5 and the battery swelled to lift the screen. It was 2 years old and out of warranty, but the rep took one look at it and gave me a new replacement….no questions asked. Yeah because you spelled shareholders wrong.I’m sure Tim is cutting costs with a smaller frame, but you know those savings won’t be passed onto the consumer.
Or Smaller size. Bigger performance. The tagline is probably going to be something like
“mini size. Pro performance.”
Power Mac G3 blue&white and Power Mac G4 mirrored drive doors are my favorite takes of the same basic chassis designHow about this with modern ports?

Given my current desktop has two internal SSDs, an internal DVD, and 11 USB ports of which six are used I'm afraid even five USB ports won't cut it. But it would work in the stereo cabinet. That only needs a HDMI and one USB port for the remote. But I'm sure the new mini will cost too much for that purpose. But maybe it will drive down the price of M1 mini's.
(The Apple TV doesn't have enough storage to be useful.)

I’m figuring $2200 for the Mac mini pro with 32gb and 2tb ssd…
