I recently bought MacMini (2TB storage with 32 GB RAM) while knowing that a new version of the MacMini was going to come out in the Fall 2024. I am kind of fearful of the new designed and have to wonder what issues will arise. One time I was talking to a Apple engineer who worked on the designed team for several famous Apple products and had to report straight to Steve Jobs. He said, "Never buy the first version of a new design. There are always issues we were not aware of, and have to fix those issues in version 2. So always wait for for version 2 of a new design." So I always sat on the side line and waited.

Then don’t buy one. The studio is the product for you. I’m happy to have mine connected to a hub
Come on. I genuinely buy the Mac Mini to save space and money, I don't need the power of the Studio and don't want its large size.
It's a shame if the Mac Mini will be smaller but require docks/hubs.

Not a bad idea. I have the same model, 2TB and 32GB Ram.
There will surely be some downside to the new Mini. Yes, I do admit M4 will be a lot faster than M2, and there will be a higher Ram limit.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Apple hasn't made an ergonomically comfortable mouse since the Desktop Bus Mouse II, which was discontinued in 1993.

I've been using Logitech and Microsoft mice ever since.
No, it was sold from 1993-1999. So technically discontinued in 1999.
But yeah, your point still holds true.

Then use a hub, it’s a bit silly when people complain about it not having legacy ports when usb c can do literally anything. You have to move on at some point and this design makes perfect sense to me

Same. That’s about the time I switched to a laptop full time. It’s easy enough to just hook up to a monitor when I’m not using it in bed. Unless it’s for a server or serious processor workloads on a Studio or Pro I just don’t see the point of desktops anymore.

I used my MBP docked to a studio display all the time. I would rather use a desktop.

Desktops tend not to have to have a large incendiary hooked up all the time, have better thermal profiles thus performance and tend to have things like Ethernet built in. Also you don’t have to pay for an extra screen and keyboard that doesn’t get used much.

Exactly. You don’t want a whole bunch of docks (that may even need their own PSUs) daisy chained to such a small desktop device because that completely defeats the purpose of its compact design. I have an M2 Mini sitting on a Satechi dock - creates ZERO clutter on my office table.
Erm….you literally said your mini is already sat on a dock?

If there are problems with it, return it and get your money back. Simples. 30 days return, 1 year warranty and then Applecare if you bought that. If there are continuous problem you have the right to get your money back.

Version 2 gets fixed/changed and other problems arise — a neverending cycle.

Oops, thanks for that correction. I pulled ‘1993’ from a very quick web search and didn’t think to actually pause and remember that I was still using this mouse with my 1997 Power Mac!

When I switched to the G3 iMac, I bought a plastic extension that clipped over the USB hockey puck mouse to make it usable. Eventually I gave up on that and switched to Logitech’s budget mouse which saw me through multiple generations of Apple nonsense, from the slippery soap bar mouse to the cutting edge (literally!) Magic Mouse, and on it still goes.

Waiting to see the new Macs. Will not be surprised if there is another Mac mini with fewer ports.

I’d be happy if they just released a “good” mouse.

Yes. Good for me would just mean comfortable to hold (for 8 hours a day), two buttons, a simple scroll wheel, and affordable.

I doubt if Apple will ever create such a mouse, because ever since the hockey puck disaster, they’ve been trying to convince us that they’re above making anything that resembles a cheap PC mouse. They’d rather market something that looks like a race car and boast about its magical multitouch. It’s a shame really.

5 ports is enough if you're using it as Apple intends to (Wifi + bluetooth peripherals + USB C monitor with integrated USB hub), but I still hope for Ethernet and HDMI on a desktop. However, I can see Apple remove these ports too...

My body is ready for these new slim Apple devices.
I wonder if the iPhone Air will have no ports? There were rumors about it for years. AAPL can require new “wireless” connectors that attach with wires and a charging adapter to charge them and get their MFi $$$$$$$! Don’t put it past Apple by Tim Cook. EU doesn’t say anything about not using USB C if it’s “wireless.”

I love my MX Master 3 for Mac. Best mouse ever. But when just using a laptop the trackpad is better than most mice.
