Spot on analysis.

Some people like dark screens because it lends an air of engaging in something creative/professional and simply looks cool, whether they realize that or not.

It's not spot on at all. Many people I know, myself included find it easier to work in front of a darker screen all day vs a lighter one. You guys are seriously being silly in falsely assuming everyone wants a dark screen to look cool.

A lot of the dark mode enthusiasm is from those who control their workplace lighting, lucky dogs.

I don’t understand the allure of dark mode, but if it makes everyone else shut up about dark mode I’m all for it
It's an aesthetic preference for some, but it's also much easier on the eyes to have less light to stare into, especially for longer work sessions.

I can't think of a better way to deliver a continuous parade of app bug fixes and no new features for another year.

Thanks Little Timmy Cook!!!

Thanks Steve for "leaking" this!!!

As a digital artist dark themes or neutral grey are a must. Be great to see this across the entire UI finally.

If you go to:
Apple Logo
System preferences
Accessibility
Display
Check Invert Colors for black background with color.....and yes, the trash can is virtually black
OR.... check Use Grayscale, and the screen converts to a nice darker grey without any color at all

Dark mode would help my eyes a lot in the evening because I have a dual display setup and can’t really change my display brightness. This becomes extremely physically demanding since macOS has such a white theme! A real dark mode would help me a lot!

(And no, I cannot afford better monitors for changing my brightness. And even if I decrease brightness they start buzzing.)

Ok... I hope I'm not the only one more or less indifferent to the new "dark mode" shown off in this video. Remember UI modding 10.4 into looking pretty similar over a decade ago so I hope you can understand how unimpressed I am.

I sorely hope Apple has many way more interesting things waiting in the wings for tomorrow. However it's not like I'm expecting much of them considering how much of their developer resourced the external GPU support seems to have eaten up seeing how it was announced at last year's conference and only made available to the wider public a couple of months ago.

Prove me wrong Tim... Prove me wrong...

What would really make Monday a treat is native Nvidia driver support for EGPUs... and it would be even better if Apple released their own EGPU enclosure so we can have something that matches our MacBooks.
Vega 64 beat GTX 1080, Nvidia is behind in eGPU and macOS.

OK.....what am I missing here?

System Pref.-Accessibility-Display-
Invert Colors
That... Kind of.. Looks horrible. And all of the colours end up inverted, obviously.. Which is nothing like having the OS actually look right when its in a darker mode.

Looking forward to it. I greatly prefer dark UIs on large bright displays.

Everyone on this forum mocks the inclusion of more emoji and new watch bands yet goes ape S**t at the mere possibility of “dark mode” like its some revolutionary invention lol. While I like the option of dark mode it’s not earth shattering any more than a redesigned poop emoji.

In a word, nope.

For once, I would like to see this dumpster diver's computer hacked with oddments leaked out on the internet, then we will see how he reacts. I really do not like it when people go to so much trouble as to peep into Apple's servers for a leak, just for a few likes. It is not going to get them paid in any way, just for some moments of glory, that satisfaction of the vain ego.

Or more likely, he likes to see what Apple is up to and knows many other people do as well.

Chiming in as an older guy, I love dark mode and small fonts... my desktop, shell windows, editors, browser themes, all dark. It's a rather jarring contrast when I use apps and sites like macrumors that have white background. How about a dark mode for macrumors?
I can handle dark, but I really need my big fonts. :)

I removed launchpad from the dock because it was easier/faster just launching via Spotlight/Alfred. I imagine people who use Launchpad probably want the MB to have a touchscreen.

Poor imagination then.

Launchpad= pinch touchpad, type first few letter of app name, enter! Simple

Same. I think it's something that just became so overrated and it doesn't even look that great but rather dull and lifeless.

I think it looks way more elegant than a bright screen but I agree it’s become way overrated.

I have not used xcode for past couple of years! But it's the worst IDE ever I have seen in my life! Even open source Eclipse blows it out of water. Sluggish product with very bad support for any other languages besides objective C or Swift! Why???

Perhaps it’s changed in the last couple years?

Don't worry, people like the poster below who has no idea how eyes work will tell you you're wrong.

In a word, nope.

Citysnaps, lets use some critical thinking skills for a moment. What happens when a person dies? Their pupil dilates, because the muscle relaxes. I know the user, who also has no clue what he's talking about that you initially were agreeing with tried to sound all intelligent by claiming constricted pupils were the eyes way of relaxing but he's wrong as well.

There are tons of people on here saying the same thing I am, dark mode helps their eyes. Stop trying to dismiss them.
