I picked up a blue one from my local store this morning. I cancelled my order after the initial impressions, but now there's been some more feedback I've decided this could still be a good solution for me. I've had a similar-sized wallet for years and this seems like a good solution for those times where I need to carry both. TBH, I'll probably use it as a wallet on its own too as I like the compact format.

Here’s blue on blue on blue if anyone is interested in the all blue combo :)

I really like the leather folio case on my iPhone 11 Pro. I still carry a wallet but use the folio for little things I need to deal with throughout the days like a paper transit card/ticket, ID badge if I'm going into the officer (so I can tap my phone case not he contactless card reader), stuff like that. I am still debating whether the mag safe wallet could make a suitable substitute but definitely not considering it a wallet substitute, just a way to make it easier to keep track of ID badges and little scraps of paper.

First impressions:

1. There's no way this is accidentally falling off unless you paint your pants on. In which case, probably not the best product. It's on there firmly with my silicone case and if it did ever get dislodged, I'd know it immediately.

2. It's really hard to remove cards and not sure I'll be keeping it. Having to remove it from the phone case, then flip it over and try to push up the cards from the back through that little hole was not the easiest or quickest thing. A whole lot more work than my actual wallet lol

In summary, magnet stronger than I had hoped, functionality not so great.

Getting the cards out isn’t too much of a concern for me as i can’t remember the last time i had to use an actual card in the last 2 years or so. Maybe once or twice a year now? Contactless payment is available nearly everywhere here in the UK (one of the upsides of the pandemic is that its literally available everywhere now), so its Apple Pay all the way for me.

But yeah, if you’re using your cards a lot, looks like its not ideal.

We are a bit behind in the USA with contactless. I take my card out daily. :(

Want to put my transit card in the wallet, was wondering if I took the wallet off the phone and since there is a cut out on the back of the wallet will it let me tap and go

BTW, is it just me who always puts their phone in their trousers with the screen facing forwards? I never put it in the other way round to try and avoid scratches from anything lurking in the pockets.

I was leaning towards getting it but this video is really making me think twice.

The official MR first impressions video and post are now up.

Seems to be at odds with some of the first impressions on here about how strong the magnets actually are and how practical it is - although maybe the author has very skinny jeans Like MKBHD? 🤔

MKBHD & this macrumor guy put their iphone in the pocket bottom first (bottom of phone). I and most guys put their phone in the pocket head first. I had no problem with the wallet falling off when the phone goes head first into the pocket.

Exactly! I usually use my phone and put in back in my pocket head first and have no issues with wallet falling off.

I think they’re both trying to illustrate that it’ll fall off. But any magnets will detach if you deliberately jam your pocket edge between them.

Does your wallet fall off in your pocket though?

I can be careful putting in my phone/wallet and taking it out but if it detaches while in my pocket as Dan from MR experienced, that scares me.

Nah I’ve been using it for a few days and it’s never fallen out in my pocket unless I deliberately try to peel it off.

Maybe buy it and try it for a few days to see if it suits you?

  1. Tried this morning with a contactless credit card and it did not work until I took it out of the wallet. Not sure how an NFC card would function for keyless entry though.
  2. Yes, I can slide the wallet off the back of my phone whilst in my pocket and slide it back in and align without taking the phone out as well.
  3. Even with just a single card in the wallet you do need to remove the wallet and use the cutout to slide the card out. Not so much due to the card being a tight fit but it sits right down low in the wallet and there is very little of the card exposed to get your fingers on.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I appreciate you taking the trouble to help. So even the cutout doesn't allow any contactless cards to work? I guess I'll have to reconsider getting this or using it in a different configuration if I do.

I initially ordered a black wallet on day one, only to cancel after getting my order delayed and seeing the initial mixed reviews. My local Apple store had them in stock today and I decided to give it another shot...

It holds a lot stronger to my clear MagSafe case than I thought it would and I’m actually not concerned about it being knocked off.

Using the phone with both a case and wallet attached isn’t uncomfortable, but it takes some getting used to. I find myself using the 12 Pro with two hands more often with the wallet attached. It’s much easier to pick up the phone when it’s facing up and the wallet is still on.

It holds three cards comfortably, but you definitely need to remove the wallet from your phone first to get the cards out. I recommend facing a card with raised characters inward to provide some grip when removing the cards, as pictured in the above photo.

I don’t know if this is common, but a minor thing to point out is that my wallet doesn’t lay completely flush with the phone. Cards or no cards, the bottom 3rd of the wallet curves outward.

After using it for several hours, I’ve come to like this unique accessory. It’s not perfect, but better than I thought it would be.

I plan on replacing my current slim leather wallet with this MagSafe wallet and seeing how it does long-term. As others have already pointed out, this is probably best used as a standalone wallet and placed on the phone as needed.

Is the wallet rigid? If it's mainly leather without any sort of rigid frame within, it's probably going to flatten out in time. You could try placing the phone and wallet in your pocket with the wallet facing your thigh or butt to speed up the process.

It’s pretty rigid. I’ve tried to gently bend it inward, but I think the embedded magnets just cause the wallet to be shaped like that. No big deal though.

Do you wear skinny jeans with tight pockets? I don’t and I have no issues with the wallet

I’d say slim not skinny and the pockets are probably somewhere in between too so it’s really hard to say. Ideally I’d use the phone naked with the wallet on it but seems that with a case is the best option in terms of how well the wallet stays in place.

Thank you for the pictures! I wanted the Blue one but the Saddle Brown looks great/more like a wallet. I knew I should have ordered mine before. :(

I wish some people would wait to judge this product wait until it’s out in the real word.

I have one of these and have been using it these past two days. It’s best thought of as a cardholder that magnetically attaches to your phone (if you wish it to). You can reach into your pocket and slide the wallet of your phone to use it and then return it to the back of your phone in your pocket, if you like the idea of keeping everything together. It’s also very nice to use the iPhone with the wallet attached, as the wallet provides extra grip.

Personally, I love it, and due to the various wallet / case colour combinations, it adds a level of customisation to the iPhone that I appreciate (rather like the Apple Watch with its different bands etc).

You've been to MacRumors before right? ;)

What I find strange is that particularly on threads posted in the News section, you get a lot of posters jumping on them to bash or praise the product/service/Apple itself, but those same users don't seem to be active in the specific forums related to those things. I guess a lot of people are here just to discuss the main news topics themselves.
