(sorry, got that stupid thing stuck in my head)

How about the iMacs and Apple TV why are this devices getting ignored. ATV is long over due for hardware update that supports 4K and DTS-HD I guess I will wait for Xbox One Scorpion 2017 holiday.

This requires some thought. I used to love the Macbook lineup but I quickly got "bored" with OSX. It was and still is a great operating system, but I preferred using a desktop (which ran Windows), and over the years I began to use the MBP (13"; 2010) less - of course, along the years I put in money to build a more upgraded desktop (Core 2 Quad to i5 4690k (Devil's Canyon)), so naturally the power of the desktop was more favorable tied in with a dual monitor setup, etc.

Recently, I came across an Amazon Warehouse Deal used Dell XPS 13" (2015 base model, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB Hard drive, i5-5200U) for $514 + tax (which is an amazing price. The laptop itself is in mint-condition, minus one key). It runs great, but with the new Macbook redesign coming out, it really puts things into question. Continue with Windows or restart the Mac journey.

Looks like no Mac Pro. I think it's time we go through change.org...and petition Tim out of the office. He's great in financial sector...but he neglects desktop users like mac pro or mini....

EDIT: By the way, if Apple wanted users to be able to use os x features, how is he gonna do that? Lot of features requires current BT 4.x.. or "current" techs/hardwares. So what gives?

Apple, why in the world it take you soooo long, why would you miss "back to school" season and probably missed couple billion bucks in revenue? Just why?

Going to be bunch crap if ask me. 4 USB-C and 3.5 headphone jack, as pictured above.

If you buy the new iPhone 7 and have their new lightning port headphones. You will need a Lightning to USB-C adapter to use their new products together. The adapter they provide with iPhone 7 wont work; you will require an additional adapter.

WTF? If you release two new products in same year and only months apart they both need to support the same technologies.

Not to mention we will be required to sync iPhone via WiFI and unable to plug phones into MBP to charge natively.

My prediction is that it's going to have a Lightning port, in the blank space were the mag-safe would go, which equates with the charging port. Lightning will be the de facto headphone jack (though they will maintain the 3.5mm jack without optical until at least the next redesign), an alternate charging port for the MB, an optional data port, compatible with all current Lightning accessories. So for all those professionals who will complain about the loss of HDMI, USB 3, and SD card slots, if they already had Lightning accessories for these things on their iOS devices, they'll be good to go.

A spec upgrade w/o any of the gimmicky touch bar BS or removal of the MagSafe, headphone jack, SD slot, sounds perfect to me.

I think you're dreaming, unfortunately. i saw the writing on the wall and grabbed a 2015 w/ AMD a few months ago. The last thing I wanted to do was transfer/edit 4K video SAVED ON SD CARDS with yet another dongle sticking out of my computer or lose an HDMI or traditional USB port. I think the touch bar is gimmicky as well and completely unnecessary, I want my headphone jack for when I'm editing video and wearing studio monitors and I love MagSafe. The one thing this 2015 lacks is the Touch ID - that would have been cool, but the thought of a bunch of USB-C ports? Nah. Not for me. Not this year. I'll pass.

Whoa whoa whoa... Apple isn't taking away the charging port. You will still be able to plug the laptop into the wall for constant on-location power. Everything you said in your long reply will still be achievable.

Whether you're in the studio... or in the field... your laptop can be plugged in. Your livelihood is safe.

And I thought you were upset about the lack of MagSafe... yet you didn't even mention it this time. Weird, huh.

I'm absolutely talking about MagSafe. It is very handy to have in my environment where people are moving around all over the place. I was explaining my situation to you since you suggested that I learn to use my laptop via battery power.

Considering where you are right now between mac/windows, I think you should take a good hard look at the "new features" in Sierra to see where Apple sees the Mac going. Apple is pushing very hard to turn macOS into a light toy like iOS. Just do a search for new features. Storage in the cloud -- outside Apple, local storage is dirt cheap and so is backup. MBP-sized windows laptops have 2 industry standard drive bays. Siri for mac - rofl. Copy and paste between the mac and iToys. Apple pay. iMessage (with extra emjois). Everything they're doing on the mac screams it's not a serious computer anymore.

And I type this from my 2011 MBP that I've been waiting years to update. At this point, I'm not going to do anything before the next MBP comes out, but unless there's some major surprises, my next laptop won't be a mac. (Maybe if it could run Mountain Lion it would be a serious consideration).

Apple doesn't care about photographers any more. If they did, Aperture would still be around.

I totally agree. I'm still sore about that. And to think that they replaced it with Photos, which is worthless unless you only want an iOS experience on a Mac. Apple truly has abandoned the creative community and is in favor of the mobile phone crowd.

Dude if you're doing all of that intensive work on a laptop and you're doing most of it on the field, you SHOULD already be prepared with a backup battery source, just like you have backup batteries for your camera. There is no reason to blame Apple for not giving you the battery life that YOU need. My iPhone battery is not sufficient for my daily needs so I always carry a 10,000mah charger, I am prepared for that. Same concept.

I'm not blaming Apple at all for battery life. I think the battery life on Apple laptops is great. My post was in defense of why some form of MagSafe cable is still a great solution (for me and many). My post was in response to someone that suggested that we all should learn to use our MBPs all day without plugging in.

And you expect Apple to bring all this missing stuff back for the 2017 models?

:D
That'll all depend on how well 2016/2017 ends up being for Apple.

if the Laptop sales continue to fall, and even possibly tank due to decisions like this, and iPhone sales don't meet expectations because of decisions like the earphone jack, and the alternate revenue streams it is supposed to drive don't work out, it MIGHT (but not likely) end with Tim Cook out and some one new come in and undo some of the less popular decisions

Curious how that would be Apple's fault? Intel are the ones who have dropped the ball and completely fallen off of schedule with their processors. I suspect Apple has been hoping to release a new set of Macs for awhile but have been waiting on Intel to get their chips together.

How did intel drop the ball and prevent Apple from putting Skylake into their MBP a year ago?

Kaby Lake offers better 4K support in internal graphics, built in USB 3.1 support, and support for Intel's Optane drives. I want these things. But if that means Apple putting off releasing a new MacBook Pro for another 3 months...

Talk about a rock and a hard place.

Kaby Lake has been available in the OEM's manufacturing channels for a while now, they should be hitting the street any time now. It's not going to take 3 months. And maybe these October macs will even be Kaby Lake. If not, is Apple going to commit to staying more than a year behind everyone else or will they release MBPs next month and again in the spring?

My guess is Apple is waiting for Kaby lake to hit the streets before moving to Skylake so they can get a deal on the old chips.

Me too. I still use it. Pics from my phone go to Photos, but anything from my DSLR still goes to Aperture. Blows my mind that they dumped Aperture, it is such a great application.

Let's be honest Apple doesn't care about its customers and they never have. We can all name products they've discontinued or given up on just because they don't give a ****. 17" MBP, Servers, iWeb, Aperture, iWork, iPod, MacWorld Conference, etc

I dunno... you seemed to be talking about power vs non-power in your previous comment.

But I know whatcha mean. Cables strewn about in a crowded space can be a recipe for disaster.

How do you keep your camera tether from being yanked out during a shoot? Need MagSafe for USB cables! :)

Oh no worries, was just giving an example of why some form of MagSafe connection was useful to me. For the camera tethering, the USB cable is clamped down on both ends via a spacer/tie down clamp.

Cheers.

I totally get the SD card dilemma. But HDMI doesn't seem like that big of an issue now that USB supports HDMI natively. And I think people are fooling themselves over the USB 3 port need. USB devices are all the same, with a half-dozen different kinds of connector ports themselves. So USB-C is just a different cable. No matter what, as USB-C proliferates, everywhere a person goes, they are going to encounter USB-C ports incompatible with the legacy USB 3 connectivity they are attempting to maintain. So switch now, or later, it's going to become a problem either way. Might as well step up sooner.

The headphone jack doesn't appear to be going away with this next model update, except possibly the Retina MB. Mag Safe is gone however -- MacBooks are so light now, and the MBP if going to get lighter, that it doesn't even really work. The MB is more likely to get pulled off a table before the MagSafe disconnects. And they probably will add Lighting to replace it, and provide a few more options for native compatibility with Lightning headphones, as well as optional charging and data ports.
