They will sell you a dongle for that. And one for hdmi. And one for usb type A. And one for ethernet. And one for audio jack. And one for...

Or just get a dock with all of those things in a single box with a single cable.

Bad framing.

Apple is no longer a "computer company", and the rebranding reflects this new state of things. Words DO matter.

Your iPhone, iPad, and Watch are all computers.

Going to be bunch crap if ask me. 4 USB-C and 3.5 headphone jack, as pictured above.

If you buy the new iPhone 7 and have their new lightning port headphones. You will need a Lightning to USB-C adapter to use their new products together. The adapter they provide with iPhone 7 wont work; you will require an additional adapter.

WTF? If you release two new products in same year and only months apart they both need to support the same technologies.

Not to mention we will be required to sync iPhone via WiFI and unable to plug phones into MBP to charge natively.

What if I told you that wasn't even a headphone jack? What if I told you that it was yet another MagSafe connector shape/size?

You may not call it clickbait, but it's purpose and intention is still to get click-through.
A quick search of these two threads is pretty much regurgitating the same information as today's article.

Some of the article is repeating past rumors in order to provide context, but here's what I think we've added to the discussion:

- Late October launch plan: Previous rumors have said "fourth quarter" or "as soon as October," both of which are several month long windows. We've narrowed that down to likely late October. Not 100%, but that looks like what they're aiming for.

- macOS 10.12.1: The primary purpose of this update is to support the new MacBook Pros (and whatever other fixes they can slip in with the time they have), and that hasn't been reported elsewhere. We've provided a timeline for it...one more beta, and then sent off to the factory at the end of next week, barring any unforeseen issues.

- macOS 10.12.2: Less important, but we've shared Apple's planned timeline for the subsequent macOS update, which will be focused on bug fixes and security patches.

Great point! Why on earth would Apple not include a lightning connector? Surely there is enough room. I'm sure you're right...and if you are...I have to seriously question Apple's lack of continuity on ports...crazy!

Also, MagSafe has been the best thing EVER for laptops. Why on earth would they remove this?!?!

My guess? That isn't a headphone jack. New MagSafe design.

If it's gonna have 4 USB-C ports and a headphone jack only, than it absolutely won't deserve the "Pro" tag...

Everyone prepare for #USBGate, #SDCardGate, #MagSafeGate and #HDMIGate…
Why? Arguably it is the most usable thing they could ship, since all 4 of those USB-C ports can be used for literally anything. Sure you'll have to use some adapters for some things (story of owning a computer), but more and more USB-C accessories are coming along, and the pace is quickening (unlike with Thunderbolt).

And in terms of new accessories, it shouldn't surprise you that no one in the industry is content to let you just use all your old peripherals forever. It is in everyone's interest to motivate you to buy new ones eventually.

As much as I love MagSafe (and I really love MagSafe)....4 USB-C ports means you have 4 potential charging ports...you can plug in your charger (and all other peripherals) in any arrangement/orientation that works for the desk you're setting up on.

If they don’t mention the Mac Pro at this next event, we are so out of here. Year after year, months after month, I’ve been goated into waiting for the next event. Our computers are falling apart and I can’t justify horrifically priced thousand day old computers for their replacements. I also can no longer hold my company back with the “hope” that Apple is still interested in the Pro market. Companies need to plan these things out and Tim’s silence speaks volume to those of us in charge of administrating these things. Its really sad to see this. Its definitely the most outdated lineup in Apple History. Congrats Tim.

I have never understood the blind nVidia love as if it's always been better at every level or something. nVidia and AMD have gone back and forth and if my memory serves me, AMD has often had the advantage in terms of power consumption and heat dispensation.

As for the Kaby lake whining... it's not going to be ready for a MBP at launch, and the improvements in Kaby Lake over Skylake are... well... fairly trivial.

Still don't get the complaints about adapters and people telling me and others what constitutes a "Pro" notebook. You're either on the move and entirely wireless or you're at a designated workspace and have some kind of something. I use a thunderbolt dock at work and at home. Everywhere else? I'm using it on my lap or at a desk. I don't need USB, ethernet, or video.

Seriously, what adapters, beyond MAYBE one do most people need while on the move?

This is going to be nice. I'm hoping some of the limitations on Intel's current crop in terms of video for a dedicated GPU solution on the 13" MBPs. I doubt it, but that would be pretty nice.

About time, I'm more interested a new MacBook Pro than a phone. Depending on things, I might move from my 2011 17" MBP with an SSD, maybe.

No mention of a scheduled event == a smaller than expected update. I'm prepared to be disappointed and still buy....

Any news on the Airport Extreme?

Im looking for an upgrade as i have 2012 express that cant handle my updated network speeds... Any suggestions?
The current AirPort Extreme can handle 300 Mbps. Is your bandwidth faster than that? If so, where can I get sum.

Death of MagSafe = when a device can get 9+ hours on a single charge. Apple is expecting that you won't *need* to have it plugged in, so the entire of situation of "tripping over a cable" won't exist, negating MagSafe's purpose of being around.

Death of 3.5mm headphone jack = Eventually, all phone and tablet manufacturers will do it, but probably only when Bluetooth 5 standard is commonplace and the world sees how little the gap is between Analog sound & Bluetooth 5 sound. Also, when people (who use Android and iOS devices and laptops) see how much better USB headphones *can* sound as compared to an analog signal.

Death of LIGHTNING PORT  = Yes, Apple will do it! The old iOS 30-pin connector lasted about 4 years and the current LIGHTNING port has been around for even longer than that. However, it's *still* using USB 2.0 speeds, with the possible exception of the iPad Pro. Apple is embracing USB type-C for its connection, but it also needs THUNDERBOLT. Right now, THUNDERBOLT fails to include DisplayPort 1.3 protocol and so I highly suspect that 2017 or early 2018 will be when Apple kills off the lightning connection and puts USB type-C 3.1 on all of its iOS product line and puts USB type-C with Thunderbolt 4 (with support for external 5K sst displays) on its MacBook Pro and Mac Pro line.

The timeline behind this has a lot to do with design changes due to microprocessors making the leap from 14nm to 10nm in Q4 2014 (or maybe Q1 2018). And, microLED display technology.

Apple does love to make its own propriety ports, but it hates to make things convoluted/difficult for a consumer who is willing to buy all-Apple, all-latest model gear. That's what I've seen in the past, at least!
I do not approve of this opinion piece.

Headphone jack? You optimist!

4 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports would be fine - USB-C promises an end to the "port salad" on current computers. There are already USB-C-to-X cables for most other interfaces, and hubs with various permutations of HDMI, Ethernet, USB-A and SD card to choose from.

Technically, the "Pro" world ended when the ExpressCard slot and user-swappable hard drives was dumped. If you survived that transition, you'll survive this one.
