About time, I'm more interested a new MacBook Pro than a phone. Depending on things, I might move from my 2011 17" MBP with an SSD, maybe.
Sold mine earlier this year before a big move.

Still the best by far. With high resolution matte screen (no retina lag or gloss), good i7 quad core, no graphics issues. Had an SSD plus hdd.

Just soo heavy and pretty thick.

Would love to see something like this machine again some day.

Also sold my quad core i7 Mac mini with upgraded ram and SSD.
Also way better than current model...

Apple has lots of work to do just to catch up with their own 2012 computers.
But I have zero faith. USB C, removing ports, dumbed down dual core, MacBook, ipads as computers..
Impractical is their new game.

Also, MagSafe has been the best thing EVER for laptops. Why on earth would they remove this?!?!

My cat agrees

he's fine BTW, my bank balance not so.

So they're going to release laptops with cpu's that are already on the market for 1 year...

Gone are the days I guess when Apple would release new machines with brand new Intel cpu's that nobody else had for a few more months... Now they are charging premium pricing for oldtechnology, milking it for years on end...

Maybe, just maybe they will surprise us with Kaby Lake MBP's. Though I'm not betting on it.
Curious how that would be Apple's fault? Intel are the ones who have dropped the ball and completely fallen off of schedule with their processors. I suspect Apple has been hoping to release a new set of Macs for awhile but have been waiting on Intel to get their chips together.

Kaby Lake offers better 4K support in internal graphics, built in USB 3.1 support, and support for Intel's Optane drives. I want these things. But if that means Apple putting off releasing a new MacBook Pro for another 3 months...

Talk about a rock and a hard place.

Maybe Apple doesn't expect them to stay plugged into the wall all the time.

Isn't that the point of having 10-hour battery life?

Perhaps you're supposed to charge your laptop overnight... and then use it unplugged most, if not all, of the next day.

iPhones and iPads don't have MagSafe either. :)

You'll get into the habit of charging it... and then using it unplugged.

Michael,

I get your point and that is fine for the average everyday user, but I rely on the MBP as in integral part of my workflow as a commercial and action/adventure photographer. In the studio, my DSLR camera is often tethered to my MBP and I am constantly checking shots for critical focus and critical lighting as I take them. And when the Art Director is peering over my shoulder and weighing in on his/her wishes, the last thing I need to is to tell the model/s, make-up artist, lighting assistants, and most importantly the Art Director, to take a break while I "charge up my laptop".

Next thing is I am often in the field, where my laptop might not be tethered, but I am shooting 4K 60 fps video and I need to do some heavy-duty editing throughout the evening or even on location. The very next morning or even on the same day, I might be shooting an action event and then I'm in the Press Room trying to cull and edit my photos, all while meeting a very tight deadline for the company I'm working for.

My point is that when I can plug in and work off power, I do so because I cannot afford to run out of battery power. My livelihood depends on it. Henceforth, I would like a "pro" machine to keep features that are important to a pro's demanding workflow/requirements. I'm a tremendous Apple fan, but unfortunately, Apple has been slowly abandoning the creative pro community for a couple of years now.

Cheers,
Bryan

Or just get a dock with all of those things in a single box with a single cable.

Your iPhone, iPad, and Watch are all computers.

Interesting how the "computer" definition in tech forums varies wildly based on the goals of the poster.

Sure they're computers, but the OP was clearly refering to PCs (Mac Pro).

MBP For now...
(Perhaps this may be the last, or next to last, MBP)

...and the rumored LG display w/ graphics card rumor which is just next years iMac

RIP:
Mac Pro
Mac Mini
MacBook Air
Mac external displays
:(

o_O Hello Windows Subsystem for Linux (for professionals):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Subsystem_for_Linux

Not so with the displays apparently, some credible sources reporting a new one in the works. I agree with you on the Pro/Air/Mini though.

With the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2 launches having dominated the Apple news cycle in recent weeks...

Since May don't you mean. End of October = November. Enough with the Iphone 7/Apple Watch obsession! It is time to go wall to wall with the mac line. I expect Apple to blow us away with Top of the line, Best in Class Specs after having delayed so long. Yes, my fantasy life is robust. Apple should just buy Intel and be done with it instead of squandering money on some xyz music service. Perhaps then they could get CPUs in a timely fashion instead at the end of their life cycle.

Dude if you're doing all of that intensive work on a laptop and you're doing most of it on the field, you SHOULD already be prepared with a backup battery source, just like you have backup batteries for your camera. There is no reason to blame Apple for not giving you the battery life that YOU need. My iPhone battery is not sufficient for my daily needs so I always carry a 10,000mah charger, I am prepared for that. Same concept.

* With one of the most beautiful displays in the industry, the 5K retina display, and the drive is a fusion drive (SSD+HDD). For $100 you can upgrade to SSD. The SSD upgrade prices will drop even further when they update them. You don't need a very big SSD in your machine if you keep your archives on a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 connection. It is a desktop, after all. I also get a discount and I upgrade the RAM myself.
What are you even talking about? The Fusion Drive is an optional extra. It doesn't come standard with any entry-level desktop Mac. It costs you minimum $100 extra and for that money you even get screwed on flash storage.

Apple slims 1 TB Fusion Drive to a measly 24 GB of flash storage.

I agree completely. Having lived in the Windows world for a long time, I can tell you that I had to replace 3-4 system boards - the whole thing - due to people tripping over the power cord. MagSafe was the perfect answer to this and has been amazing. Why they would remove it is completely beyond me.

I currently have a mid-2012 rMBP, which is still a great machine. However, if they introduce a MBP without MagSafe, that relies on USB/C for power, I'll run out and get one of the last of the current gen MBP while they're still available.

I guess it would be just another example of how they're improving their product in ways that leave me cold.

Now, what could change my mind is if they have options for Rose Gold, with a built-in Milanase Loop and maybe allow the stickers API to integrate with the new function key strip.

Whoa whoa whoa... Apple isn't taking away the charging port. You will still be able to plug the laptop into the wall for constant on-location power. Everything you said in your long reply will still be achievable.

Whether you're in the studio... or in the field... your laptop can be plugged in. Your livelihood is safe.

And I thought you were upset about the lack of MagSafe... yet you didn't even mention it this time. Weird, huh.

I hope not. I have student programs and those computers are the only ones we can really afford. Also they are easy to move in bulk.

I Think it really depends on how well they see the surface doing in the near future. If they have any concerns, they will add the touch bar and eventually other gimmicky things. I would try the surface if it ran iOS. I like the concept, just not willing to give Microsoft a try.

I just got my iPhone 7 and realized I'm the one that pays the price for their courage. I'm going to have to tape a dongle to the back of the case or something. An iPhone case with a dongle compartment I guess?;)

You bought an iPhone 7 and then realized you need a headphone jack? This courage nonsense needs to stop. 1 guy at Apple says that and people act like it's in an Apple commercial.

You would think when you go to Apple.com/iPhone it would say "courageous." under iPhone 7.

Those top case images from May depict what appears to be a 4 port top case with a 1/8" jack on it. That sounds about right for the times. Consider also that for each additional type of bus they need to include a controller. Reducing the number of port options to TB2/3 might give them less stuff to tack onto the MLB and save space.

Ive got a 2013 rMBP with magsafe and a 12" rMB with USBC charging. Never had a problem with the USBC. That said, I'm not going to set it up with the cable running across people's movement paths. For the majority of the time i use my rMB at a desk. Whenever its at my desk its getting charged. Whenever its away from my desk its running on batteries.

But if your main setup is having it set up on a coffee table and plugging the charger into the wall thats far enough away to make the cable be up above the ground, then Magsafe would be the way to go...

I have never understood the blind nVidia love as if it's always been better at every level or something. nVidia and AMD have gone back and forth and if my memory serves me, AMD has often had the advantage in terms of power consumption and heat dispensation.
Apple hitched their wagon to AMD for OpenCL performance years ago and it turned out to be a poor decision, IMO. AMD has been playing catch-up to nVidia for years now and it doesn't look like they're going to get there anytime soon at the rate they're going.

But hey, I'm sure Apple has some pretty awesome margins for AMD's chips nowadays. Tim certainly would appreciate that.
