They might pronounce it as “reality-pro-O-S”. Sounds a little cooler than just “reality-O-S”.

Are we missing something here? Are xrOS and xrProOS two different operating systems? One offering more features than the other?

The xrOS coming as standard and xrProOS being subscription? Do not let that be so.

I hope...this is not real, if so, it is maybe Apple's worst name in a long, long time.

xrProOS - you can't say it, it's hard to type, it looks dumb and what does it even mean?

macOS is not "Pro"? Are we gonna get iPadProOS soon?

If the display quality is mind-blowing, then I wouldn't mind the ability to have a giant screen to do Excel work, some development, presentation building etc.

I have a feeling this won't be the main use case though.

Though if the operating system is branded 'XR' then that sounds like extended reality i.e. AR rather than a screen glued to your face where you can't see the real world so will be fascinating to see what Apple do.

Many articles are being written in the tech / business press about both apple and Facebook being blindsided by the mass interest in AI and generative text tools like ChatGPT. Feels a bit like AR/VR is '3D TV' or even something like Playstation VR and destined to remain ultra niche and a bit of fun but mostly annoying and uncomfortable.

If an AR/VR display could be as light as a pair of glasses then it would be a game changer.

This would be one of the worst names ever. Probably just about like iPhone XS or iPhone pro max

I don't really care what the OS running the thing is called, but I am curious what this new device will look like.
All we've seen is different mockups by various artists, and a lot of the critique is based on these mockups.

Cannot wait for WWDC to come. :p

Everyone would have loved iGoggleOS (or giggleOS?). Apple should be a bit humorous once in a while.

I also dug up this snippet from their planned big reveal WWDC:

“Apple has always been at the forefront of inclusivity, and with xrProOS, we are proud to support little X AE A-XII Musk and all of the alternative-named children out there.”

It's sad, but not unexpected, that so many people here are getting so frothed up over something so innocuous as an OS name.

Jeeez. Don't sweat it. It is what it is. Life goes on. Planet Earth will not instantaneously tilt an extra 20 degrees, causing worldwide tsunamis and ending life as we know it.

I guess it's too difficult mustering up some thoughtful discussions about potential AR uses and apps that Apple and developers might/could develop.
