On screen awareness seems easy enough to implement, just take the current visual intelligence framework and when you say “Siri add what’s on screen to my calendar” it should be able to pick it up.

I've lost a bit of faith in Apple with all the AI hype. I probably won't be a big AI user, but we've all had to listen to the hype for way to long, and now a huge delay after the previous delays. From the initial announcement to eventual delivery is now slated for 19+ months later. ISN'T 19+ MONTHS OF ADVERTISEMENT AND PRE_HYPE A BIT EXCESSIVE?

Timeline:
2024 June: WWDC event Apple announces the AI stuff for IOS 18
2024 Sept: IOS 16 released with hardly any AI in the initial release.
2024 Nov - 2025 Mar: Very small AI updates.
Mar 2025: Announcement stating that the better AI stuff won't arrive until 2026 (another 9 month delay)
Jan 2026 (or later): Eventual delivery of the AI advertises starting in 2024 June.

This is a HUGE case over over-promise and under-delivery. Marketing over Product Substance, etc...

I know people is Cupertino and the word is that the project is a disaster. Siri is going to require a complete rewrite from the ground up and it’s likely we won’t see it for 2 years - late 2027 at the earliest.
LOL sounds like when Apple tried to do cloud services with me.com and it was a disaster. Steve Jobs fired the me.com leadership (well reassigned) on stage in a company townhall. He asked them what services me.com is providing and the ask "why the F is it not doing it?". Apple was never good in cloud software solutions and I guess they need to take their time.

Too many things are being left to languish or not being dealt with, it's not just Siri, Apple Home had all the promise with HKSV & that's been left to rot, warts & all, maybe they were waiting for AI, but as that's an afterthought, doubtful.

Apple Music was meant to free us from radio playlists, but it's heavily curated with crap being forced upon us, heavy editorial features & really, really hard to find other stuff and not tailored to a users' needs (in my opinion) - That & we don't have basic features that were introduced with our own ripped media like searching by producer (clicking on the name in the song) songwriter etc. it's all locked down, even when Apple introduced the artists this would've been the ideal time to bring it out.

Apple Maps is expanding at a glacial pace for lookaround etc.

I really want to see what the plan was for iOS18 before Craig had the AI brainwave in 2022.

AI is not a complete loss, I use the writing tools, image playground has its place & the stock market seems to like the cautious approach Apple's taken by not splurging cash on AI when prices were highest, I'm guessing that was a fluke and not necessarily planned as AS may have been behind.

The photos editor is god awful like in the way photo editing tools were when they came out in 2000.

& then there's the hardware blowing hot and cold across all product lines with things not fitting & working together as intended.

WWDC this year sure is going to be fun!

It's pathetic from an investor/public relations stand point. From a software and service development point of view, I could not care less about these "features" being delayed until they're good and ready and not a broken buggy annoyance.

I still don’t think this is true. No other company has achieved anything close to what Apple is proposing with Siri. Amazon has announced something similar, but it’s not out yet and details are fuzzy. Gemini isn’t fully integrated with Assistant and can’t do things like, eg, control device functions.

Apple certainly isn't a leader in AI, but I also never expected it to be—it’s a hardware company and it always has been.
Bottom line is they should not have encouraged people to buy the iPhone 16 when no real intelligence is going to be happening until the 17th is out.
It’s fraud.

Apple Intelligence seems to be something they knew they needed to implement because of the AI buzz word. Just like they tried to do with VR. Apple is generally the company that waits and then blows the market up but that has not been the case since the Apple Watch in my opinion.

They only can handle this if they put all this AI stuff to be processed in the cloud Like Google and other Companys are doing. Smartphones in currently State arent capable of handling AI on device. By the way i would Trust Apple more than Google. I dont Trust Google with my data but Apple. They Need to Build a Secure AI cloud

That's right, folks, Apple is so bleeding-edge that they just couldn't get these features ready to delight customers so they had to pull them at the last minute. But hey, not to worry, because in their zeal to skate to where the puck will be, Apple is ensuring they aren't the first but are the best. Besides, Siri is OLD NEWS, because the era of spatial computing is here for early adopters to try tomorrow's technology, today! AVP FTW!!!
But the shareholders!!!

How utterly disappointing and embarrassing.

The most shocking aspect of all of this is that there is no rolling back the Apple Intelligence advertising angle, despite the fact that it simply draws focus to the biggest failure of this company ever.

Exactly! All the billboards I see advertise the feature as the primary thing for the new device. That cool rainbow effect around the home screen.

The worst part of all this is that each new version of iOS comes without new features because the whole team is working on AI.

It depends on what AI stuff you're talking about. I agree many things you may ask it would require both the power and the data of the cloud. But if I ask something about data that is only on my phone then it requires less data and processing power and it's preferred to not send that data to the cloud if not completely necessary.

I'm not so sure that's true. It's very possible that many that work on other phone features are fairly separate from those working on AI features. The AI team may ask the other teams to expose certain things in their APIs but otherwise the teams may work independently and Apple may hire enough to staff all needed teams.
