And call the existing screen size the iPhone Mini? :D I'd be sticking with the Mini version, personally. Those large screens on the droid and whatnot are very nice but those phones are just way to big for my taste. I have small hands :)

I have very large hands and find the iPhone slipping out of my hands sometimes when typing on it. The larger screen would be better simply so I have a better grip on it.

i hope to God its the ViPhone. My BB Storm is on its last leg.

Hey there you are! I've been looking for you....

People that say that due to the rush of iPhone users, that Verizon's network will fail seem to forget that AT&T sucked long before the iPhone.

Yes because AT&T hasn't touched their network since then.

FWIW I'm very happy with AT&T.

I really think it's simple...

Guys... I think it's simple... the 3Gs shows the history.

Verizon iPhone next week. It will be a minor refresh too. Probably call it the iPhone 4s.

iPad 2 and other Macs at the end of the month around Mac World to generate buzz. Plus give the press some time to cool down from CES announcements and the iPhone 4s announcement.

Everything available in February.

LOL.

First of all, iPhone users couldn't actually use simultaneous voice and data from day 1.

Secondly, there are millions of smartphone users on Verizon that seem to be doing just fine without simultaneous voice and data. The iPhone isn't going to suddenly change that.

Well, sorry. Since day 1 on the 3G I guess. That just shows how ingrained that is in my experience now that I don't remember not having it.

Millions of smartphone users on Verizon are doing fine without it because they've never experienced it. People don't like moving backwards. I'm not going to switch to Verizon if it means when someone calls me and asks "Could you open up that email I just sent you?" I have to hang up to do it. That's just broken.

It wasn't the iPhone 3G that couldn't do data and voice simultaneously. It was the original iPhone. This was because of the limitations of Edge.

And the good thing is once the iPhone finally comes to Verizon, you won't have to switch, it will just be one more option.

Seriously, you people can't see the forest for the trees.

Q1: 1H: Verizon iPhone; 2H: iPad 2
Q2: 1H: MBs/MBPs, 2H: iPhone 5
Q3: 1H: iMacs, 2H: iPods
Q4: None usually, but last year was MBA

Apple is a business. They have to meet sales expectations. That can't happen if you just up and release everything new in January (and it's not like they can split their dev teams up so that releases can be timed to do that anyway). Bottom line: it's not "time" for a product update until Apple has a hole in the calendar. You would think after years of people bitching about "where's the MBP update?!?!??!?!??!" you would've figured this out by now.

Also, history shows Apple is not in the business of pre-announcing products once the product line has been launched. The iPad 2 and the Verizon iPhone will not both be coming out at the same time, and the iPad 2 will not be preannounced more than a week or two before it's ready for stocking. If we get anything at a Verizon iPhone presentation besides Verizon iPhone changes, it'll be an iOS 4.5 preview.

Thank you. It's really not that difficult (although to be clear, your quarters seem to be going by calendar year rather than fiscal).

iPad is a March/April product, so why would it be announced next week? Also strange: all the people that seem to think releasing the iPhone 4 for Verizon next week means Apple can't release the iPhone 5 on AT&T and Verizon in July. Seriously? That's half a year away. The only people that would be mad about that are the pathologically grumpy people on this site, and that's as good an indication as any that it's likely to happen.

If Apple's exclusivity contract is up, they'll release a Verizon phone as soon as possible, not wait for the "next round" and give up 6 months of enormous revenue.

Either way, this will end soon.
A good thought but I don't think it will. There are two many members here addicted to this story.

Because Verizon's too smart to put up with a crappy phone, Apple will comply and deliver a phone than can actually make calls. Word will leak and the forum members that act like the profits go into their pockets will crow forever about all the money Apple is making.

For the rest of us the entertainment & laughs we enjoy when reading about those who's entire lives & happiness revolves around Apple will continue to be amused.

Those saying that the VZW iPhone won't come out until 2012. All I can say is... I've marked your message for the future.

I'll surprised if the VZW iPhone doesn't come out *this* year.

And yes... go ahead and mark my message for the future. :)

Stop with the iPad 2 speculation. That CANNOT be the reason for restricting employee vacations. Those can be sold in seconds at the store, no problem. It's only a new phone on a new network that takes time to handle in the store.

WRONG....did you go to an Apple store for the original iPad launch? Fire Marshall had to shut down the Houston Galleria launch...and iPads on data networks have to be activated too

Not iPad 2. Would irritate ones that just got an ipad1 for Xmas ... Like me.

For our business, our Verizon rep told us to call on Feb. 12 to get our hands on the Verizon iPhone. I'm not sure if this is an enterprise release date or consumer.

Back in late November, a friend of mine who's on Verizon wanted to get a new phone/renew contract but was told by the Verizon store manager that she goes to to wait until the middle of January because the ViPhone is coming out.

You know...here's something people haven't considered...

I hear a lot of people talk about how other cell phone makers come out with dozens of handsets a year and yet Apple only has 1 new one per year.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Apple switched to a 'twice a year' plan? So we get the 5 now for Verizon and AT&T and the 6 in the Summer?

And forget about them being big huge changes like before...think of them more like Macbook updates. Just slight bumps every few months. So...yeah, by the time your contract is up you're 4 versions behind instead of 2...but so what? It's the exact same "2 years of technology" behind as you would've been otherwise. Looking at the big picture you'd be in exactly the same place.

What it WOULD accomplish is that the long "don't buy an iPhone!" stretch of april-may-june would be shrunk to a single month twice a year.

This would TOTALLY screw with the "I've gotta have the newest phone!" crowd...but frankly they deserve to be screwed with. The normal public would probably appreciate a system where they're never all that far behind no matter when they buy an iPhone.

interesting but I personally doubt it....this would slow down sales somewhat...remember these phones come tied to a carrier with a contract...unless the carriers are going to change the way they write contracts and offer upgrades I doubt Apple will change their once a year release schedule

The original iPad launch was WiFi only, so I think you are remembering things wrong.

The 3G iPad gets activated at home, not at the store. And only when you need it. Some folks bought 3G iPads and never used the 3G part.

There's always the possibility that iPhone 5 is ready and coming to Verizon this February and to AT&T this June. iOS 5 doesn't necessarily need to ship with iPhone 5.

That'd definitely show AT&T how they feel about the iPad unlimited data plans.

And it'll come in white.

No to everything you posted...a new iPhone with old a$$ iOS....no sir

Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. Apple needs to get the iPhone on all US carriers. Pronto. Level the playing field with Android once and for all. Apple can't let Google win by default.

The first iPad was announced in January why would it be such a surprise for them to do it again?

The difference is there was no such thing as an iPad last January that could be bought by consumers. Announcing it January did not hurt Apple sales because there was nothing in this category to sell yet. So Apple could prime the market's appetite months in advance and also counter the news that came out of CES that year.

This year there IS an iPad already in the market. To announce in January a new iPad 2 coming months down the road would kill the market, and that would be stupid. This could only be an iPad 2 announcement if they were ready to ship them immediately. And since there is no need for extra employee training or extra employee time, there's no need for Apple to cancel vacation plans for just the next version of an existing product they are already selling.

I think this makes the most sense. If the verizon Phone is the same as the iPhone 4, people interested in an iPhone on Verizon might hold off, since they may not want to sign a 2 year contract on a phone that won't be the newest generation in 4 months. But I don't think that many current iPhone 4 users would really mind if the iPhone V came out for Verizon in February, since they could upgrade on AT&T in June if they wanted to anyway.

I would hope that they would synchronize their update schedules in 2012 and beyond, but that may not be feasible from a production or logistical standpoint.

I don't think this will happen. It is a perfect way for Apple to stew unnecessary animosity among loyal ATT iPhone users. We know Apple likes to keep things simple so I'm guessing it will be an updated iPhone that will have a dual mode CDMA/GSM chip and will be released to all carriers simultaneously. No reason for them not to have a dual mode chip since Blackberry has been making dual mode CDMA/GSM phones on Verizon for years (and I believe the recently released Droid Pro on Verizon is also dual mode CDMA/GSM). I'm guessing Apple's finally feeling the heat from Android sales and it's no coincidence that ATT has announced 12 new Android phones for 2011 when they all but shunned Android for the past 3 years.

Why would this be news that Apple is limiting their employee vacations? Does the internet get updates when Macy's limits the employee vacations during the busy holiday shopping season?

This is an Apple news website if you haven't noticed. ANYTHING Apple is news. Don't like it? GTFO!

Those Blackberrys were dual-mode for voice only, not data.

There are several factors that may contribute to the lack of smartphones with dual-mode voice and data: power consumption, cost (including significant licensing fees), bulk, and performance.

Anyhow, the most likely scenario is that the iPhone is coming to the T-Mobile USA network, not Verizon.
