The keep wanting to do captures on my devices and to send me a new device. 3 have all had major issues and I will have another phone later today to test with . You would think being on first net with AT&T I wouldn't have any problems but then again often times I have dropped calls and no data flowing. I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem so I wish that they would get this fix or at least tell me that it's not going to get better to next year.
They should be paying you. Seriously.

[doublepost=1539212979][/doublepost]This is outside the same store a few minutes later with 2 bars LTE. Iphone XS has very poor signal and throughput indoors. If this is like my previous iphone 7 I have no faith that Apple can fix this via software.

That’s clearly not true, because many tests show double the throughput of 2x2 phones. The issue is negotiation of tower connections, not the use of antenna.

You are also reading this link wrong. It’s talking about TRANSMISSION, not reception. People aren’t complaining about transmission. And transmission would typically use only one antenna in a device this small, as long as the device can dynamically choose the antenna.
I'm a week late, but transmission is absolutely my problem. I can compare my XS to my 7 and download is slightly better in low signal areas, but my upload is around 6-7 mbps on my iPhone 7 and .3 mbps on my XS. I'm still not convinced it can't be fixed with software, it could be something as simple as using the wrong antennae to broadcast with.

You seem to be having a different problem than others, then.

I really hope this can be fixed, I've got an iPhone 6s and been wanting to upgrade but a problem like this really sounds awful, I regularly go to areas with very weak signal so I'm worried an issue like this could be the difference between having a working 4G (LTE) connection and a non-working one :(

Only way to know is order one and try it; keep 6s until sure. If reception is worse than 6s then return it within return period. My iphone 7 had reception issues since 2016 and they were never fixed. Iphone XS has fewer bars and slower speeds both wifi and lte than the Iphone 7. 2 days ago with 2 bars LTE and rsrp0 of greater than -110 indoors xs had 2 mbs down (actually web pages would not load) upload .2 mbs. This is using Verizon wireless network.
For me the XS is a much better device; better screen, faster etc but if the poor reception continues within the return period I will return it.
[doublepost=1539388889][/doublepost]This is my 2nd XS. First lasted about 6 hrs before screen became unresponsive and could not be fixed via new setup/restore. There was no difference in reception between the 2 XS's that I have had. Both poor indoors and low signal areas. Wifi and LTE worse that previous Iphone 7.

What is going on with the reception of these phones? I have an X and would like to upgrade to the XS Max. I see all of the problems in this thread but I don't see any solutions from Apple!! Just a lot of one-way data gathering... When is Apple going to come clean about this problem and the resolution to the problem?

Is there anyone this forum that has major media connections (national news, CNN, etc)? Maybe if this issue was presented on the 7PM evening news Apple would be motivated to respond with a resolution. As customers, we need to keep busting Apples balls and let them know that we won't tolerate phones with shoddy reception.

Look this issue is a smaller number from millions of devices

Mine and everybody I know who has one has had no issues. Best bet is to get one and judge for yourself.

Clearly not enough devices are affected for this to be news worthy.

Mine seems to be getting worse, last night I kept dropping my 5G wifi connection with the router in the same room. It would switch to LTE and not reconnect but my wife's iPhone had zero issues so it was not the router. Very dissapointing for the kind of money this thing costs now.

Most of these retail stores that sell mobile products for cellular activity will have equipment installed to boost frequencies used by carriers. These data readings are irrelevant because they would probably be considered an outlier. Just an FYI.

I'm thinking about swapping my Xs Max. I got it on 10/3, so I have time. I had bought the Xs at launch and decided to switch to the larger phone, or I would not have the option to swap phones to a new unit.

I'm pretty bummed about this LTE thing. When I chatted on Saturday with Apple support, they found that I had dropped 6 calls in less than 2 weeks. So, that's just dropped calls, not calls I nearly dropped, because I know I've had about that many, too.

And, I live in the same house I did with the last 5 years of iPhone updates, so it's not a local problem and everyone else's phones here work fine except my eldest son's (he has the Xs Max). Everyone else has the X or the 8.

This was not at a Verizon Wireless store. Just an example of how the signal degrades indoors. For my XS this happens all around town, outside town, at home etc. Both XSs had the same poor reception so this makes the probability that a hardware swap will help less likely.
I did do a test at a Verizon Wireless store and I had 8.14 down and .095 up with rsrp0 -105; after toggling airplane mode it went 33.6 dn 15.8 up and -75 rsrp0. XS did not switch to better signal in store on its own.

Would be nice to see what the RSRP difference is on same band, same tower, same location on Xs vs an X or other iPhone, wonder if it could be that some bands are affected worse than others as some seem to be noticing it more?

My 7 has nearly identical RSRP difference on the same tower. It might be 3 better, maybe. The 7 is on band 4 though and the XS is on band 66, so I wonder if there's an issue with the driver and band 66 because my 7 will get 40 down, 6 up whereas my XS gets 45 down, .2 up.

That has always been my issue with my XS also. Downloads are equal to or much better (1 - 2x) than my 7. Uploads however are typically 0.2 - 1.2x the 7.

I have been on vacation with my max and have seen it refuse to switch from 3G to LTE even when there is a very strong signal for it. I’ve also seen one time where it refused to activate data until I rebooted even though it said it had LTE, however reception on this has actually been good. My friend with a 7 plus(Qualcomm) couldn’t get signal in a weak area where I could.

Sounds like they just need to tweak.

I have this issue as well and the only way to get a data connection going again is to just restart it. Turning airplane mode on and off does nothing. Went to Verizon and they swapped out my sim card:rolleyes:. Not sure if a software update will fix this, so thinking about finally going to Apple and having them replace it.

I've had nothing but issues with my XS.

I notice that leaving my home wifi and connecting to cellular vice/versa the phone just lags as if it can't make the switch. I have 3g most of the time whereas my wife who's still on the 10 has LTE. When i'm in LTE I'm more prone to having 1 or 2 bars, again where my wife has 5 bars and no issues.

I've been drinking the iphone cool-aid since the beginning, this is by far the worst phone I've ever had.

Question: If I purchased my phone from Verizon should I be calling Verizon or Apple to report my issues? Ultimately I want a new phone or revert back to the 10.

After almost 20 days with my XS, I've got the following established problem (AT&T):

When moving between areas of good service to no/poor service back to good service, the phone needs a very very long time to find LTE again. For example, on the NYC Subway, stations have great LTE while between stations it's a 100% deadzone. On my old SE, it took maybe 10-15 seconds to reconnect to LTE once we pulled into the station, but now the XS will often take over 2 minutes. Toggling the Cellular option on/off in Control Center doesn't affect it, only AirPlane mode on/off will let it find service again.

I will say that LTE feels a bit faster on the XS than the SE, but that's a minor comfort given that a lot of times I functionally have no service at all, even when just walking down the street.

For what it’s worth, here’s another data point.

I mentioned a few days ago that I got a second Max and it seemed better than the first.

I’m now on day 6 with Max #2 and it’s definitely better than the first Max I had three weeks ago, in all kinds of situations. No problem with phone calls, cellular data speeds, or wifi data speeds. The first Max I had wasn’t terrible and wasn’t as bad as many of you have reported. But it was worse than my X. The second one is at least as good or better than my X.

I’m coming from an 8 Plus and notice a weaker LTE connection and data speeds at well with my AT&T XS Max. I’m out of my 14 day trial period and I’m not really sure what options I’d have at this point besides waiting to see if Apple acknowledges an issue or if they push out either a software update to fix the issue or if AT&T pushing out and update.

I traded in my iPhone 7 for the XS Max and after 1 week I’m returning it and considering going Samsung. I have experienced no signal at all where my spouse has full bars on the same carrier. At dinner last night I couldn’t even check work email bc there was no service and others at the table had zero issues. My home WiFi on the iPhone 7 was always perfect and the XS is all over the place trying to keep a connection. Zero excuses for a $1400 phone to have these issues. Who cares about facial recognition or so called improved camera technology when you can’t even make a call. And Apple support fully acknowledged the issue and said they are trying to figure it out. In the meantime I need a phone that works so Adios apple. FYI.....I’m on the Verizon network in San Antonio, TX where signal is never an issue.

An update on my situation:

My issue seems to be related to moving between wifi / cellular and cellular bands ie LTE, 3g etc. I can replicate the issue every time if i'm on wifi and turn on my music and then walk outside until I lose my wifi signal and the phone has to connect to cellular. The music stops and i can't get it to play until I either walk back to wifi OR do an action that resets the signal i.e. toggle airplane, cycle the phone etc.. My wife who has a 10 has LTE service in our yard, i have 3g on the Xs.

I finally called Apple over the weekend to diagnose my issue. I was instructed by a
"Senior" advisor to wipe my phone and set it up as new. Though reluctant to do so i restored as new, lost every app and have been spending the last 3 days downloading apps and signing into them. Painful. Extremely painful. Now then, apple told me they are aware of this issue and point to Verizon. They told me specifically Verizon has a ticket opened up on the Sept 25th around cellular / wifi issues. They also told me to go to Verizon to ensure I had the right carrier package and SIM card. After I restored i turned on music and walked outside and wallah... same issue.

I then marched over to Verizon and told them about my issue. Ironically they never heard of this issue. I told them to google "iphone xs celluar issue" so they did. I also got a new SIM card and they made sure everything was correct on my phone, it was/is. The new store manager called someone and told them about my issue and that apple had told me that it was a known verizon issue. Verizon gave him the run around and told them a. if I continue to have the issue I need to call Verizon and open a ticket and b. told them to notice the referenced google search indicates this issue exists with other carriers so pointed back to Apple.

I asked if I could get a new phone and I was told no because i'm past the 14 day return period. I explained that 14 days isn't enough time to determine a problem is a problem and this clearly is a problem. I was encouraged to open up a ticket with Verizon and call apple back.

I've had an iphone since day one and religiously upgrade a minute into the launch. I do this knowing i'm taking a risk with new hardware /software. This was and is the worst phone I've had to date. I absolutely hate it. Even after restoring to new outside having connection issues I constantly experience apps freezing and I suspect that too is a related issue. I work remotely so my cell phone is my lifeline. I have never EVER considered moving away from apple until the Xs came along however I'm at a complete loss. Any advice appreciated. #iwantmy10back
