This is the closest I’ve purchased a new iPhone to its launch date. From now on, I’ll wait a few months, if not longer. Might even just go with refurbished models, from now on. Very economical way to go, for devices that still have a lot to offer.

My 6S was purchased in 2016, after my last Android made me run back to iOS. That 6S wowed me immediately with everything, with the exception of its camera in dark conditions. The XS is a great device with everything, but its LTE performance. I just wish I could be as impressed as I was, when I purchased that 6S.

Did they also have you setup the phone as new and not restore from backup? I can understand if I was having glitches or crashes, but I’m not sure setting up as new will do anything relating to cellular connectivity

Yes, they did diagnostics on my returned handset etc also.
Apple always take people through the typical steps - restore from backup, restore from new. It gets really silly.
I shouldn't need to restore and set the entire handset up as new and I refuse to do it, especially when that same backup was perfectly fine on my X. If I have to restore and setup as a new handset I may as well swap to Android and set up from new. It solves nothing.
This is a well documented issue online. Apple are aware of the issue, hence the title of this thread. They need to stop treating people like complete idiots and do something to resolve it, rather than give users the run around with constant restores, hoping that it will help. It doesn't!

Its not an issue with my back-up. Ive restored countless times, as well as 'from new'.
Its not an issue with my carrier. Everything was fine with my X.

If its software then its Apples software.
If its hardware then its Apples hardware.
Either way Apple should be doing something to resolve rather then brushing it under the carpet and fobbing people off.

Sorry for the rant, but seriously, its getting silly now.
This is most probably my last iPhone, which is a shame because I like it otherwise!!

I've done all of that, to no avail. This is the first time I've ever had to contact Apple Support. I have not been very impressed, with them. Especially when compared to the few times I had to contact Amazon. The nearest Apple Store is 550-miles away, so that's not an option.

Apple Support contacted me again. They had me speedtest and run logging diagnostics on both my 6S and XS on the same SIMcard. I was told an update is on the way. I reverted back to 12.1 to do pointless logging on my XS.

I'm sure everyone will be shocked to learn, but an update is on the way. He didn't know whether it'd be 12.1.1 or 12.2. Just goes to show how helpful they are.

I have tried everything but a replacement device sent by Apple. Amazon would've sent me a replacement device by now, I have no doubt. Apple intends to blame the carrier.

So get an Amazon phone.

Imagine a customer and Apple stockholder demand his purchase meet expectations. The horror!
I look at data. People seem happy with their purchases because the reasearch says so and people continue to spend more money on Apple products, every year.

Apple just closed the books on a record year.

Got mines replaced tonight from Apple. Bought it directly from Verizon and after having them trying to troubleshoot it they said I should go to Apple.

Apple ran their diagnostics and hardware seemed fine. I was told this would be a one time courtsey replacement and that if the connectivity issues continue then it has to be software related. Hoping this one resolves my issues.
So, how is the replacement phone? Having the same issues, or is it working perfectly?

Still too early to tell since it's been only a couple days. The real test is on my commute home from work. Reception tends to be spotty around there and that's where I was experiencing LTE data connection issues. We'll see...

Actually every single person I know that owns an iPhone XS has LTE issues. Every single one of them! And that’s a lot of people. I’m on my freaking 4th replacement! I have people by my side with an iPhone 7, 6S and X and they have full bars and I’m on 3G with 2 bars.
Give me a break. There’s an issue with the hardware in the phone and it has zero to do with the carrier.

I know 3 other people with an XS variant, and my own makes a 4th, and none of them have any problems whatsoever. 3 on Tmobile and 1 on Verizon. Bluetooth, LTE, WiFi, all working great. Strong signal areas, fringe areas, doesn't matter.

Have they made comparisons though? We need numbers man... not just "it works fine." I went from X to XS (both intel modems), using SAME sim card and running multiple speed tests. The X is like 10-30% faster after multiple comparisons. Not as bad as some others are having, but still a noticeable difference

Update from Apple Support:

They say the engineers have found the bug, and they hope the next software update will resolve it.

Did they give any insight on timeframe? I hope it fixes hotspot speeds. I'm getting like 1/10 the speed on hotspot... it's painful.

That's good to hear. I've had my replacement phone for over a week now and had to restart my phone once so far in order to regain a data connection even though I show 3-4 bars. Hope they add it to another beta so I can test it out.

I borrowed an XS just to try it out. Over 20 minutes using it I did a speed test and found the WiFi only running at 4Mbs on a 100Mbs connection. The owner was oblivious but that's the average X user.

Nope. I've been highly dissatisfied with Apple Support throughout this ordeal. Next time I get a smartphone, it'll probably be at least three-months after its debut. My 6S was the best smartphone experience I've ever had. I got that one in August 2016, after my few years of Android made me return to iOS.

Yo hokie804, what makes you or apple think it’s truly software related I’m just curious . Everything I’ve read leads to the placement of the antennas or faulty antennas meaning hardware . Thanks

Software is what Apple is claiming. I'm not so sure, myself.

I've been dealing with Apple since October 20th (the first Saturday I had my XS), and they still haven't made this right.

No specifics.

I just heard back from support again just now. Now the "fix" will be this update or the one after...

I just find it odd that big-name youtubers did not even cover this issue. Instead, they covered beautygate and chargegate... two of the less important issues. Makes you wonder if this is being brushed under the rug.

So ...

Is Apple so confident that they will just push the fix in the next release?

or

Will Apple push another Beta to validate the fix?
