This is EXACTLY how my 3G behaves running iOS4!!! I swear it was a cheap ploy to make me upgrade my phone to a 3GS, or iPhone 4. I can't keep using this thing. It's driving me nuts.
You only prove my prior statement. A sense of entitlement. Yes, you can keep using this thing, and no, you don't need to get a 3GS or 4; why don't you try using the software that came with it? Just an idea here...
Or, if you're really adventurous, JB it and get all the features of 4 with an even lower overhead...
Apple should have not let 3G owners install IOS4 but I supposed they would have gotten complaints on that too.
Yep. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I personally think they were being nice, but clearly people don't understand hardware limitations.
That's just it: The iPhone 3G was released in July of 2008. Two years. That's the standard length of the contract that you sign with AT&T for service! Surely it's not out of line to expect a device to be fully supported for as long as you are required to continue to pay for its use.
Yes, I could understand this argument, but there's a few reasons why I don't view it as valid, and why anyone complaining is simply being unreasonable and selfish.
1) July 2008 -> July 2010 (now almost august) = 2 years. Sure, you may have gotten your phone after that, but you could even get a 3G in 2009 if you were cheap. Where do you draw the line? I think 2 years from initial release is PLENTY of support, especially since TWO models have been released since then.
2) You may have signed up for a contract for 2 years, but you can always upgrade your phone by the mid-point. The 3GS and 4 upgrades are fully available, so there's really no excuse, except if you're changing carriers.
3) Just because the latest software designed for the
latest phone doesn't run on your (twice!) older phone doesn't mean it doesn't function. Sure, it may not be "fully supported," however, more importantly, it WORKS. Use iOS 3, not 4, and enjoy software actually designed for your hardware. Apps will continue to work, and I don't see iOS 3 support being dropped instantly either. View it more as a traditional OS change; as time progresses less support will exist for your software. I don't think this is unreasonable to expect at all, especially given that this is how things work for computers.
ABOUT A FRIGGIN' TIME!
If only you realized what was wrong with this.
