Music so last decade? If you live isolated in a cave, maybe...

Yes I do think think so. Of course Apple needs a streaming music competitor of their own but I don't think they need to spend millions on exclusive content and celebrities to 'curate' music for them. If you ranked the top priorities for Apple right now I'm not sure music would make the top 5. Look at Apple's biggest competitors, their top priorities aren't streaming music. Google didn't need to spend $3B+ to roll out a decent streaming service.

This could be one of the most exciting WWDC keynotes in many years.

For me it will probably be one of the most boring WWDCs. Dont know why, maybe because i'm getting old. :)
iOS9? Meh, i switched to Android when iphones had small screens.
OS X? I'll switch to Windows this year, OS X is terrible lately, plus i want upgradable hardware.
Streaming music service? No, thank you, i buy my music.
Apple TV refresh? Couldn't care less about another ATV if it doesn't support playing bluray rips directly from my NAS.

What a ridiculous comment. I mean really indicative of some serious ignorance. Bethoven may be important to those who like classical, though the entire genre may be useless to those who like metal. Metal may be unlistenable to those who like pop. Pop may be horrible to those who like emo, and emo may be an embarrassment to hip hop.

I for one have never given two sh*ts about Beethovens music. It's so low on my pecking order that it's been shelved, permanently. I respect his place in music history and the impact it has had on much *more listenable* music. Many would feel the same about artists who I admire.

Do I think Beaber is sh%t? Yes. But I am hardly one to say what his fans should be listening to.

Perhaps you should open your pallet to a wider range instead of patting yourself on the back for listening to abnoxious renditions of maniacs musical scibes. Ever hear of Voxtrot, Pelical, Russian Circles or stanton moore? Educate yourself and come back so we can had an educated discussion on the merits of music.

NEWSFLASH: Metal is not music; it's noise.

Music is subjective, though. People say Justin Bieber produces "bad" music. Yet when hundreds of thousands of people enjoy his music, it's hard to say it's bad, as there's no objective way of deciding whether it's good or bad.
I always thought there was some subjectivity in creative arts, ie. The Room is a pretty badly made film, but it's enjoyable to watch because of how bad its made. Just like in the industry I work in people make bad games but still play them for a multitude of reasons.

I think too many people are concerned with their hobbies/whatever being good. We're all free to like bad things, there's nothing wrong with that. The word "bad" itself is subjective, like, what are they referring to in particular? Modern musicians are bad to me because of the overuse of effects to gloss over the cracks, an airbrushing as it were.

these are all reasons apple is *wise* to spend a lot to roll this out with top current artists. they need to be cooler and more popular than the cool and popular services right out the gate.

i don't listen to these guys either, but half the people here sound like clueless (racist?) 72yos (or angry opinionated tweens) who've never even thought about what marketing and huge campaign budgets could accomplish, let alone what they do accomplish. whether you'd like to believe it or not.

Pharrel and Drake will get listeners. end of story. whether it's enough, or the right types of listeners is yet to be seen, but there's a lot of money and time wrapped up in these decisions. Focus Group Central: and i doubt even one member of MR would have even been momentarily considered to be a part of any of them.

always have to roll my eyes when old people think they own the music universe and everythings crap now. like every generation says that! its all about nosgalcia (is that the word?) value and what the music reminds u off growing up. my grandma hated my dads music, my dad hated my music and i hate my little cousins music well actually not all of it

What dispiriting news.

The only good rap songs to have ever been written were a few hits of the 80s performed by the Beastie Boys, Andrew Lloyd Webber (Starlight Express), the Rock Steady Crew and the like.

Since then, all we have had is thuggish animal music whose advocates were particularly prevalent during the Ferguson riots.

Apple aligning itself with violent thugs, sadly, doesn't surprise me these days. Let us all look forward to a time when rap and hippo-hop music is wiped off the face of the earth forever; that will be a great day for humanity and the fight against evil.

$10 a month streaming will, of course, be a failure. But Apple knows that; it hardly wants to kill its golden goose, iTunes. It's just a sop to current trends, like the Apple Watch. Wearables will soon revert to dismal failure. The great thing is, however, that tech will get cheaper, and, in the light of such failure, will be a boon to us all.
You don't know who any of the artists mentioned are apparently.

Not sure why Apple is hanging on so tightly, but I guess this is the whole motive for the multi-billion dollar buyout of Beats (again, not sure why Apple bothered with that, either).

Apple is playing catch-up here, and they have a terrible record with web services, so I wouldn't put too much faith into it.

PS: Good job with the new forums, they're swell

so you listen to rap and decide this? or you don't know what you're talking about and you make things up?

Who the f*** are these 3 guys? DJs are no artists - they just put on music. This job is totally superfluous today. And please leave me alone with all the hiphop and rap junk.
Maybe if you did a small bit of homework rather than showing your ignorance you would at least know that Pharrell received an academy award nomination for his song Happy that was in the movie Despicable Me 2. Pharrell has been in the music business as an artist for over 20 years. Sheesh, the people here.

What kind of music do you like?
Since this spawned from my post... I like ambient electronic, game and film soundtracks, fugues. Pop music wise I like Mumiy Troll, Daft Punk, BigBang (the Norwegian rock band, not the Korean band), Leslie Hall, The Turtles, Inspiral Carpets, Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno. I wouldn't say any of those are better than anyone elses taste in music. My tastes revolve more around chillout stuff I can work to.
