And boohoo for them. Not only does apple not give a ****, nor do the carriers. What did the OP want us to do? Bake a cake and beg him/her to stay loyal to Apple. Just like OP had the right to bitch and moan about how they are breaking up with Apple, everyone on this forum has the right to respond to pointless (PUBLIC) temper tantrums.

How about make a counterpoint, or discuss the issues that he made in the opening post.

Or you can post some BS about $100bn cash, a share price, the number of people pre-ordering, profits or some other non-point completely unrelated the actual experiences of a user.

So now you're having a Man-trum because I made a point that you didn't like. LOL
Get real.

I don't think it's necessarily lack of real competition, as there is a whole heap of clever marketing out there.

Apple have only ever compared the 5 to the 4S, not the handsets which the 5 actually competes with. You know, the ones you might consider otherwise buying if you weren't so distracted by the branding.

Phrases such as 'twice as fast' get banded around quite a lot, which are completely nondescript if you're not already an iPhone owner, when a phrase such as 'twice as fast as a model we now deem to be obsolete, but not quite as powerful in geekbench testing as a 4 month old Samsung device' might have been more informative, and factually correct.

There's competition out there, with the two main contenders in my eyes being the Galaxy S3 or the soon to be released Lumia 920. The S3 should be getting the latest OS update soon including project butter, which will be a big boon to an already formidable handset.

Check out the benchmark testing. After you look at the keynote or the website and tell me where it says the 5 is twice as fast as the competition.

No it doesn't. Apple claim the 5 is up to twice as fast as 4s.

If you don't like it, don't use it. Honestly

I thought I would never say this but I will sell my iPhone 4S and get a Galaxy Nexus. I will miss the camera but Google is just better in search and mapping.

Have fun I absolutely hated my Galaxy Nexus I had it for a few days and went back to my iPhone 4, but it is everyones choice. I would just make sure that is what you want before you get rid of the iPhone because I couldn't stand the battery life or the OS that was on it when I had it. (ICS)

If you are dead set on going with an android phone look at the S3 or Razr or Razr Maxx

will do my own tests with the wife's new 5 tomorrow

Siri vs Google voice search = Google dominates.

From what I've seen, Google Voice Search queries give 100% the exact same result as simply doing a dictation into a Google search. All I have to do in Siri is add the word "Google" before my question, and I not only get the 100% exact same result, but it's even formatted in exactly the same way.

Apple Maps vs Google Maps = Apple isn't even in the game.

Even if this were true, iOS 6 has access to literally everything from the iOS 5 Google Maps. If not from the native Maps app, then from the Google Maps web app.

Well, it doesn't seem anybody can actually respond to the OP other than insulting him and telling him how little he matters.

Apple screwed up with iOS6. I'm a long-time Apple customer, but the attention to detail has been thrown out the window with this release. In my opinion, they could mitigate a lot of this by:

- Spending however much it takes to make sure they have the best satellite-view imagery anywhere. Really, this is such a big deal it could sink the entire iPhone as a product. Apple needs to get the best digital imaging hardware on this planet and fly it over every square inch of the globe. Even the low-density areas.

Making a quality product is about beating people's expectations. Apple has always managed to do that until this product, where it doesn't even come close to what their customers expect.

- Bring iOS6 to the iPad 1. It can take it; it's got the same specs as the iPhone 4 (even an almost-identical screen resolution). Apple has left a sour taste in the mouths of millions of iPad owners who bought their devices just about 18 months ago.

Delight your customers in to buying your newer products. That's what Apple used to do. My experience with them as a customer was always so much better than anyone else that it was a no-brainer to buy Apple again next time. Now it's much less certain.

- As for the contacts, I couldn't agree with you more. The social integration in iOS was very poorly thought-out and the implementation is awful. However, you can turn it off by going to Settings > Facebook and deselecting "Contacts"

- Status bar. Yeah it's kind of ugly, but 3rd-party apps can control how they want that to be: they can disable the tint, or choose a custom image or colour. Really though, it doesn't bother me all that much. They've changed the blue colour to a nicer shade of blue, which makes more of a difference to me than the status bar.

One customer is very unlikely to impact their profit margin much. In fact it won't impact it at all, which you would be fully aware of if you knew what a profit margin was.

But I digress. You've made the asinine and sadly go-to point of many on this forum, which is to say 'screw you, the company I like is making lots of money, from people like me, so they're right and unless you're going to join the circle-jerk, your opinion is worthless'

But there are a lot of people who don't understand why they should buy an iPhone 5, or what they gain out of upgrading iOS6, and apathy towards a product, especially one commanding the sort of premium that iPhone does will impact on Apple. Whether that's now, or maybe the next time the sheep that just bought a new iPhone on the upgrade cycle feel like they got their fingers burned, it may well happen.

You managed to put everything I was thinking when reading many posts in this threads into words.

Everyone pays a premium price for apple products, hence it is only fair that we can expect a premium service. With apple making both the OS and the actual phones, there is no excuse for any glitches or disappointments, they have no one to blame but themselves. I personally don't find it acceptable that they have released a sub-standard update while sitting on absolutely massive profits. It seems our "apple tax" is not exactly being re-invested in development, although I'm sure its making a nice amount of interest in some overloaded bank accounts.

One thing I have learned with Apple is that the first time a new feature is released it may not be the best on the market but give it time to mature and it will be. If you expected Apple Maps to be comparable to Google Maps in it's first iteration you expectations were out of check. Give it a couple years and it will at worst be equal. Passpor is another. For the time being it's nothing great but the base is there to make something very special.

loyalty definitely isn't what it used to be...

lol.... :)

I've noticed something good.

They way that they allow us to configure the DND settings allows this old user to anticipate never having to jailbreak again.

The last reason I've had to jailbreak is iBlacklist. Although iBlacklist can do more than iOS 6 can do, I didn't use iBlacklist to its full potential and the fact is that iOS 6, at long last, has eliminated the need for me to jailbreak.

Is the OP still whining? AT&T is open until 9; go grab an android phone.

I smell a rat...a fAndroid in disguise. :D

Apple Maps is just fine, works with no issues. Are there places where the maps are incomplete or less than ideal? Sure. That's called growing pains, and it will improve. Google Maps remains available on iOS with a simple home screen shortcut.

Facebook integration, I understand the anxiety some have on that. Myself, I like it. But I disable both calendar and contact sync via Facebook. It's easy to do. And you can disable the integration completely if you so desire.

Siri is fantastic, I disagree 100% about Google Voice Search being superior. I don't think so.

Most of your complaints are subjective personal tastes and perhaps Android will be a better fit for you. Or, more likely, you'll be back. :D

Theres stale and underwhelmed, and then there is iOS6 where functionality is actually worse than before in some very important cases.

Things like passbook are currently underwhelming, but they are new features so this can be expected. However, as seen by the other huge thread apple maps is much, much less functional than its predecessor despite maps being one of the core functions of any smart phone.

I think it will be a tad harder for this reaction to wear off, at least until google releases a stand alone map app and we can all try and pretend like apple never wandered into the dark forest of navigation.

Hope you enjoy yourself. Here's the worlds smallest violin.

Really? so choose bus and see if you get a route. nope it's gone. some p-laces are not even there. This will bite apple hopefully. a company that makes such great products and gives you a alpha app that they brag about is just lame. Turn by turn is not great when the app can't find where you need to go.

I was just about to write that.

iOS6 maps is an abomination for the price we pay for the iPhone. It's a substandard product. In the UK it's not usable outside of major cities.

I'll be heading for a Lumina 900 on EE. Thank goodness Mas OSX is still good.

Might as well the 920. Anyway, they have some nice features but they no apps! Devs basically only write programs for iOS & Android! You will be running back when you discover your fav apps don't exist on the Windows OS

I have been playing around with iOS 6 and I am hugely disappointed.

Apple Maps - it's so bad, it's so bad.

Contacts - too cluttered. You have fields for Facebook profiles, Facebook chat, Facebook e-mail address, Facebook profile link, regular e-mail address.. There is also buttons for added accounts. "Name in iCloud" "Name in Facebook". Just if you forgot where where you added the contact?!

Colored status bar - sometimes black, sometimes colored. Ugh??!

Dial buttons - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

= how did they end up here when they tossed ideas around? Did they scrapped the idea of a wifi-bluetooth toogle for a colored status bar? It is obvious that they focused too hard on Facebook intergration. Was the new map solution included in the last second? Just not ready for prime time.

Siri vs Google voice search = Google dominates.

Apple Maps vs Google Maps = Apple isn't even in the game.

Hardware design = Users love curved backs on mobiles. The iphone 4, 4S just feelt odd. I stuck with iPhone because of the software. I thought I would never say this but I will sell my iPhone 4S and get a Galaxy Nexus. I will miss the camera but Google is just better in search and mapping.

Hey There are apps for that :D

Seriously who cares about Maps? just use MapQuest :D, and search just download the google search app, problem solved, really not that big of a deal but then again this is all personal preference
