Well if you want a new higher power charger, then go and buy one and stop complaining.
Seems like that's what Apple would be happy about people doing by removing and changing things up. And why is it that people can't discuss a change where they get less for what they are paying? Kind of odd to just be happy about something like that, let alone to somehow be unhappy about others who might not find something fairly basic like that as a positive thing for the consumer.

You’re assuming only existing iPhone owners would buy a new iPhone? So Apple doesn’t want new users at all?
Ok, so go buy a charger, or even just a lightning cable to plug into your existing non-Apple USB chargers, sheesh, it's a trivial cost compared to the actual phone. If Apple included a charger, then which one should it be? The 15W MagSafe? Or one of the 5W/12W/20W/30W USB chargers? Which one do you want?

Realistically, most people have at least one USB charger lying around, regardless of if it's an Apple one or not, but they will all work, all you need is a lightning cable. It comes with a USB-C lightning cable, as Apple thinks USB-C is superior, but you can still use a USB to lightning cable.

The sum of it is that you find the iPhone 12, with or without a charger, too expensive. Yep, Apple overcharges for everything. But they mostly make really really good stuff, so we buy it.

It's not "trivial" cost, especially when you look at the iPhone SE. The total cost of the accessories is adding 10% more of the cost of the phone. Add on to overseas pricing where Apple prices are already 20-45% higher than US prices. Can't you see that it's becoming silly, especially for required things like a charger?

Apple has prided itself for the customer experience. Go back to Jobs' various keynotes. So now Apple is basically a premium brand that only their own customers to spend more on the necessary accessories.

Next time you buy a Macbook or iMac, maybe Apple should just exclude the charger/power cable as well. I mean you already have one right?

Dude, the SE got price reduced by slightly more than the cost of a charger and EarPods. They also reduced the price of EarPods. And a lot of people buy AirPods and never even used the included EarPods (especially as they are stupid lightning ones). It literally is entirely about reducing electronic waste.

If next time they reduce the cost of a Mac by the cost of the charger, then yeah, I'm fine with them not including it. Going USB-C has made them generic.

Don't get me wrong, I really detest some of Apple's business practices, focus on profits over product, and ridiculous extortionate pricing for some things (e.g. RAM and SSD upgrades in MBP's), but in this case, I think they've actually done the right thing.

If they are changing the cable then a power adapter that works with that cable.

Fanboy for speaking the truth?

Search for my post history. I've bashed Apple many times, especially for the awful TV+ service. Removing EarPods is not a legitimate reason for bashing Apple.
Not the EarPods. I’m ok with that move.
But the power adapter not... it was a big Mistake.

Hang on a sec. Who do you think you are? Your coming across like a knob. I can afford the EarPods. If we were speaking face to face, I’m sure you’d come across differently. If not, you’ll probably end up on the wrong side of someone at some point so good luck. If I’ve misread you, I’m sorry.

Assuming I can’t afford the £19 EarPods is a bit lazy and blinkered but that’s just my opinion. The charging plug and headphones have been bundled since I bought my first iPhone in 2007... It didn’t hit their profit margins then. I get things progress but every year they release NEW and IMPROVED iPhones, the best they’ve ever done at the forefront of technical boundaries etc etc. Every year! Is that good for the environment? Nope.

Believe it or not, people are still going to be buying their first iPhone in 2020. Do you remember a time when Apple stuff just worked and you didn’t need additional software or accessories? Supposing my 80-odd year old dad just bought his first iPhone in a couple of weeks instead of a few months ago? He’d be like, how do I charge this thing? Oh, you can’t Dad. You need a charger first or a computer. Well you got a plug and I need to charge it to use it so what good is that?! Try explaining USB-C and A and whatever else, to an 80-odd year old bloke. He’d laugh you out the room and just hand it back. He might not be an important demographic for Apple, but it’s reputation as a company that makes products that just work, out of the box is a tad at risk don’t you think?
This.
I surely can afford a power brick and EarPods (not going to buy one, TBH, since I have AirPods Pro).
I’m buying an iPhone 12 Pro, and like many Europeans I’m going to pay for it upfront something like 1100€ + AppleCare+ (do your math), without any subsidized contract or something.
The point is not if I can afford it. The point is that it’s ridiculous I have to buy a power adapter for my 1100€ iPhone because Apple is too greedy to put one in the box.

You’re assuming only existing iPhone owners would buy a new iPhone? So Apple doesn’t want new users at all?
And even that point is ridiculous ! I owned every single iPHone since the beginning, but I don’t have ANY spare charger because my power adapters were sold along with my iPhone in the past !!!
I actually had one 5W and I had to use it with my new Apple Watch Series 6 because the fu#ing Apple didn’t provide for one !!!
That’s beyond ridiculous and seeing people here defending the choice is very sad.

So...your argument is "Apple, just give up more of your already small margins" which I disagree. It's not Apple's job to give out free s***.

If they include EarPods, they'll be taking away budget from elsewhere. Maybe they'll take away the new ProRaw feature and save it for next year. Taking away a feature from everyone just because you couldn't afford $19 EarPods? No thanks.
Man, do you own shares in Apple? You seem to be so immature with the way you debate with other people. Try to comprehend the guy to whom you had replied before jumping to your narrative. Apple is doing a big blunder here by not including the charger brick. many of the People who upgrade their iphone would Certainly sell their old iPhone along with the charging brick and the cable. So, they will end up buying a new charging brick. How is this going to solve the environment the Apple is trying to protect. If a company really wants to protect the environment, they should lead it by stopping this madness of producing new phones every single year. Iphones are already pretty solid and can last for 4 years atleast. But companies are pushing this consumerism trend to the public. If there will not be a new phone, public won’t upgrade. Yes, Apple just cant do it alone because other companies will outrun them. So, to protect the environment, the governments around the world should come up with a policy of mandating the companies to make new model of phones once in 2 years. That way, we all can benefit and strive towards a greener planet.

Stupid comment. I own 0 shares. Problem with this forums is that anyone who agrees with Apple is immediately called a shareholder and/or fanboy. You need to stop with your ridiculous accusations. I'm looking at this objectively.

I comprehend fully. You fail to understand what Apple's stance is and you immediately jump into the Apple bashing bandwagon.

Just because you're buying something new doesn't make it bad for the environment. You look at how long a product will be used before it will be thrown away. Buying a USB-C brick OR the MagSafe will be used for the next 10 years and will charge MANY devices. This is FAR BETTER for the environment than getting 3-5 USB-C bricks over the course of the next 10 years because you upgrade your phone a few times. This is objectively true, you can't deny this.

The reason why people sell their phone *WITH* the brick is because their phone CAME with the brick. But if you sell the iPhone 12 in the next few years, you're not obligated to sell it with the brick because it originally didn't come with it. Get it?

Many EarPods are not being used at all. How is that good for the next 100 million iPhones they'll produce?

Do you understand now?

Most people understand what Apple's stance is and why something like that would be beneficial to them, and perhaps even have other benefits as well, but it's something that still comes at a cost to the consumer ultimately -- some consumers might not care about that, for whatever reason, but that doesn't mean that there's nothing to care about there.

People like me, refusing to stick anything into their ears, and using proper headphones. Or connecting their phone to their WiFi.

I'd they are changing the cable then a power adapter that works with that cable.
I agree that putting a USB-C cable in is a bit cheeky. If they were entirely about saving the environment, then they wouldn't have put that cable in at all, and left that to the customer too. It's a clever psychological nudge to tip people over the edge to buy a USB-C charger, but I predict a lot of USB-C to lightning cables ending up in landfill without ever being used.

Plenty do as well, while plenty don't too. At the same time those won't change the new phones as well. They are also unrelated and inconsistent with having a new cable but no charger. Not paying less but getting less for it than before.
Sorry but there just isn’t a way to spin this other than the customer is getting less this year.
sure it’s got 5G and a better camera, but it does this every flipping year. Only this year - no buds or charger. Which is disgusting given they should be including a 20w charger to go with the fast charging phone. As I’m obviously not going to pay new prices for old tech from 2018/19. I just ordered a pro and it cost me $1869aud. No charger? R u serious, Apple. I can buy a damn 65inch Oled TV for that.

Base memory increased. In the US the pro max costs the same as last year and the price of OLED TVs last year were more expensive. So you don't really need a charger or pods, just annoyed apple didn't include one.

Additionally, since the iphone x, faster charging could be achieved above and beyond the 5 watt charger, and Apple didn't include the means to do that either. So the precedent was already there.

Apple should have released an additional sku with earpods and 5w adapters and charged $19 (or some other amount) for that sku. This would shift the burden to the consumer and would be more friendly than the removal of the headphone jack. There clearly would be criticism of the $19, but the criticism of disenfranchising the first time users (and those without spares) would be gone.

Doesn't seem like my post disagreed with that.
