Apple ... said there are over two billion Apple power adapters in the world, implying that many customers no longer need these accessories.
Greed, for lack of a better word, is good.Apple should GIVE AWAY the charger if requested by the customer on the purchase on the a new iPhone 12. Anything else is just PURE GREEDY.
How is distribution something you claim doesn’t last good for the environment? It not as if they only last a couple of years and then you need a new pair, oh, wait, they don't last.
I don't have any spare pairs of apple earphones but I do have many chargers.
Chargers I can swallow as good for the environment, earphones is just a cash grab. Just like storage/memory at apple is a cash grab
No included headphones or wall charger. iPhone is same great price. Discount needs to be in the phone.
A bad argument. What about when they created the larger device (XR in 2018) and slapped the lower price on it? People who wanted a small iPhone had to jump to the ultra-premium XS line just to get a kinda-reasonably sized device. “That isn’t keeping the same great price at all.” The 12 mini is what should be at that price-point.Um, no. They raised the price by $100. Creating a smaller phone and slapping the old entry level iPhone 11 price point on it isn't keeping the same great price at all.
Well, no one has seen the display, but if—as advertised—it is “Super Retina XDR” quality like the iPhone 11 Pro it beats many competing displays on colour accuracy, brightness, and longevity. I’ve seen so many burned-in Galaxys and Pixels at just two-to-three years old, iPhone OLEDs last longer; I couldn’t say why, could be the pre-selection, could be software management, but they do.And whoever argues that "the display and 5G warrants that!", I hope you stub your toe.
The iPhone 12 display is four generations over due and found on a $50 tracphone.
None of the plugs in my house, be they for iPads or iPhones have a USB-C port. They have a USB-A port. Now I have to buy a new USB-C plug when I upgrade or buy a new device? How’s that environmentally friendly?
Apple could offer to swap these old USB-A plugs out with new USB-C ones and then recycle the old ones FOC, or even for a small fee when you buy a new device. That would be more acceptable in my opinion.
Dude I’ve been accused to be a fanboy in the recent past, several times, and maybe I am. But you are going far beyond that...
Because in the next 5 years, you will be using USB-C charger, guaranteed. and that USB-C charger will be charging more devices than your USB-A.
Doesn’t help me now does it? Which is why some sort of credit system for both EarPods and plug from one of the worlds most valuable companies, would allow them to still ship thin boxes and help the environment, whilst not pissing off ALL their customers. The fanboys will always love whatever Apple does. I’ve used Macs since 88, wouldn’t use anything else but I can still recognise when the F up. Just like they did when they removed the headphone jacks. Courage... I digress.
Anyway, then it means that those who have USB-A chargers and either broken EarPods or no EarPods at all, can choose to pick them up or have them shipped separately. Those who don’t want them, save the environment. I’d even pay a couple of quid if necessary but not nigh on £20! And then Apple could even offer to recycle all the old USB-A plugs if they really wanted to. It’s just blatant profiteering, masquerading as Apple saving the planet. $hite!
Let’s not forget, there are adapters and dongles for nearly everything. Apple love the profits that the plastic generates for them, I’m sure.
UPDATE: And their margins take a hit every year, yet they’re still one of the most valuable companies in the world! Is that the sound of the worlds smallest violin playing somewhere? They’re sitting on billions FFS! 😂
Which basically negates the whole part about Apple saying that it was done because people already have the power adapters that they need and there isn't a need to include one now (even though it's not what the new cable would work with and not what they supposedly would be expecting people to transition to by that statement).Because in the next 5 years, you will be using USB-C charger, guaranteed. and that USB-C charger will be charging more devices than your USB-A.
So...your argument is "Apple, just give up more of your already small margins" which I disagree. It's not Apple's job to give out free s***.
If they include EarPods, they'll be taking away budget from elsewhere. Maybe they'll take away the new ProRaw feature and save it for next year. Taking away a feature from everyone just because you couldn't afford $19 EarPods? No thanks.
Hang on a sec. Who do you think you are? Your coming across like a knob. I can afford the EarPods. If we were speaking face to face, I’m sure you’d come across differently. If not, you’ll probably end up on the wrong side of someone at some point so good luck. If I’ve misread you, I’m sorry.
The charging plug and headphones have been bundled since I bought my first iPhone in 2007... It didn’t hit their profit margins then. I get things progress but every year they release NEW and IMPROVED iPhones, the best they’ve ever done at the forefront of technical boundaries etc etc. Every year! Is that good for the environment? Nope.
Believe it or not, people are still going to be buying their first iPhone in 2020. Do you remember a time when Apple stuff just worked and you didn’t need additional software or accessories? Supposing my 80-odd year old dad just bought his first iPhone in a couple of weeks instead of a few months ago?
Try explaining USB-C and A and whatever else, to an 80-odd year old bloke.
All the more reasons then to also include a USB-C power adapter at the very least in the first year when things are being switched to use a USB-C cable. All the more reasons to completely remove USB-A from the world and accelerate USB-C adoption so that customers will only have to think about USB-C (next will be removing lightning from the world).
This is a straw-man. Some baseless generalized statement. How do you know that Apple didn't strike a deal and in fact the earpods cost less to produce and Apple is passing on the cost of the savings to their customers? There is a lot of opinion out there, and no facts, since nothing came officially from Apple.A product or service has to increase in price to offest the reduction in price of a product or service, that way making sure the company does not lose out. Apple maybe reducing the price of the earpods but another product of theirs will have increased in price to offset the $10 reduction of the earpods.
Or you could just use your existing USB chargers and existing USB-lightning cables? That’s why they unbundle the charger but include a lightning to USB-C cable, so you have to buy the power adapter. This is not saving the environment, this is simply unbundling the package to sell the required accessories separately for more money.
And have them charge the phone quite a bit longer, all while you pay what you pay for the phone and get less than you got for it all before.Or you could just use your existing USB chargers and existing USB-lightning cables?
Well if you want a new higher power charger, then go and buy one and stop complaining. And have them charge the phone quite a bit longer, all while you pay what you pay for the phone and get less than you got for it all before.
