uhm hello ibook replacement its gonna be like....1200

I'd go the other way completely and say that a smaller screen, and overall laptop, is crucial. I travel too much to lug around that lunch tray. The 12" pb I take with me is too heavy, let along another 2lbs and several square inches of surface area.

Apple needs to start selling a 15" low-end notebook. Not everyone needs the highest processor specs, but a large screen is crucial.

I totally agree! Give me lots of power in a small form factor! I think huge laptops just look silly :p

Thank god you found that! Now we know excactly when it comes. Unless Apple is cheating, but they wouldn't, because so mnay people would come to the seminar and there would be nothing. Yes! May 10th 3-4 pm!:D

Please stop this. People will believe you...

I agree with you. My friends parents bought a cheap Acer because the ibook screen was to small for them. I'd almost got them sold on the ibook till they realised the screen size for their price range was 12". Not everyone is looking for portability from a low end laptop.

Why is everybody getting on appleinsiders case? They, as far back as january, were stating that the ibook replacements wouldn't be released until april or may when everyone else were stating february and march.

I agree. The response here is really odd.

Everyone here reads AppleInsider, but when Apple doesn't deliver your precious MacBooks on time, which may or may not be interesting machines, rather than making yourself heard by Apple, you all just bellyache about another rumours site--one that you peruse daily.

wholy canoli. I'm one of the people (if im the only one, sh*t) who waited for apples site at midnight. while chatting with a co-worker of mine, and taken into account the "ibook seminar", we decided that there are three things to watch for.

1. It will most likely be released on apples site on cupertino time

2. Apple won't put it on their home page right away, they have to test/debug the new modifications to their site.

3. The store will be "unavailable" for an hour or so while they implement the new additions (this is from a previous experience)

p.s. i'm pretty sure TS's image of the "website malfunction" (http://www.thinksecret.com/archives/appleipodglitch.gif) is a hoax.

1. Usually around 6 AM Cupertino time.

2. Yes, they will. Everything is tested beforehand.

3. Yes.

p.s. Lots of people saw the glitch on Apple's site...it's not a hoax. Whether it actually reflects the new MacBook can be debated, but it did occur.

No...it showed up on Thursday night, and was still available at times on Friday. Not since then though...

We are so busy here debating rumours from various sources that we all seem to be missing the obvious:

It is somewhat pathetic that Apple has not yet managed to get a consumer-priced Core Duo portable to market.

Think slowly.

Build slower.

Price exhorbitantly.

Wow... I can feel the tension seeping through my computer screen.

Hey - RELAX everyone... Get a little sleep, and this will all be resolved tomorrow.

But for what it's worth, I put in my vote for the MacBooks being released on the 19th; it just makes much more sense than tomorrow.

alright, you re-invent a corporation to a multi-million dollar corporation to the point of being one of the producer of the most efficent/powerful personal computing machine. i know we are all frustrated, but give apple a chance. i mean come on, its an intel in an apple in the first place. I'm willing to give apple some time. We all know there is a reason for the time they are taking. :)

All the newbies freaking out is so funny :D reminds me of myself a few years back, now if I want it and can afford it ill get it, it will run the mac os and work with everything the last version and very likely the next version works with...

But i do agree apple needs to get a consumer laptop out, there is a lot of good will towards apple and they need to capatilise on it.

i agree. there is nothing more i would love for the new macbooks to come out tomorrow. i'd have one by friday. but for all intents and purposes, i'm just excited about the freaking thing coming out, and me getting to stick it to my windows machine. if jobs was here right now, i'd give him a hug and tell him to take his sweet-ass time :p

Actually, it's an Asus in a polycarbonate Apple shell. Asus have had the computer on the market for some time. Dell also has also had cheap Core Duos out for some time. What Apple is doing here isn't rocket science. It is taking an Intel motherboard from Asus, having an iSight attached to it, doping OS X onto it, and shipping it. Still, they are not able to do so in time for institutional school purchases while the competition has done so with attractively priced packages.

Now that Apple has let Intel into their midst, they have to understand that revisions are no longer at the whim of their engineers. When new chips come out, conusumers demand that these be adopted accross the line within a few months. That's the reality of the industry that they are in now that Apples are Intel boxes.

But we all enjoy whining like 5 year olds saying it's not fair!

Once we're told something may happen, we do what we do best; complain. The day it comes out people will wonder why apple didn't wait and just throw merom into it, waiting a few months is no big deal...

No fair!

Tommorow morning I expect to get up and see the MacBook on the home page of apple.com.

Since I get up usually after 10:00 am Cupertino time, it should be there by then.
