Last week, a number of customers enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program were unable to pre-order the specific iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus model they wanted due to limited stock when orders began at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday.

Apple had already warned that demand would outstrip supply as usual, but unlike regular customers, iPhone Upgrade Program members were not given the option to pre-order a new iPhone online for home delivery.

Instead, would-be upgraders were directed to a separate queue that only allowed reserving the iPhone from a local Apple retail store -- many of which were sold out. The experience led to frustrations and even a class action lawsuit, prompting Apple to collect information from customers affected in an attempt to make the situation right. Now, the company appears to have delivered on that promise.

Apple has sent an email to some iPhone Upgrade Program members to inform them that more reservation times for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, sans Jet Black models, have been added for September 16. Out of luck. Only can pre-order for those who already are in the Upgrade Program, and want to upgrade their phone for a new phone.

(if you're in the US) New IUP people can have their phones shipped to them... they had a much larger stock available to them at the initial pre order than existing IUP members did.

I ended up reserving a silver 7+ 128 last friday in desperation when I wanted a matte black 128. A few days later a 32gb Matte showed up and I reserved that. My current 6+ is a 64 and I am around 40-50GBs. Idk if I can do the 32, but I really want a matte iPhone. My Silver pickup time is before the black, and at a different store so I will see if they can switch models when I get there.
 
At least in Philly nothing really seems to have opened up.

I tried calling to see if I could do a model swap but the agents weren't able to get through to the iPhone Upgrade Program specialists due to heavy volume.

Was on hold for a combined total of 2+ hours so I don't really think it's the right move to keep trying. I'll just see what they can do in store day-of.

Do you have a reservation/doing IUP? I have a 7 JB shipping in Oct. but was going to show up tonight around 4pm to camp out and try my luck at a matte black 7+. Looks like even if I was first in line I wouldn't have a chance.

Two points from other threads:

1. Jet Black is NOT available. It appears all units are allocated/reserved. It was removed from the IUP upgrade page earlier this AM.

2. If you have a reservation already, you will NOT see the proper stock that is available. This has been confirmed over and over. I and others do not have a res and can see tons of stock that appeared late yesterday. Others with a backup res, etc., can't see these. You need to cancel your reservation to see the new stock and make a new 'correct' one for the item you want.

NOTE that these are for IUP UPGRADES only. New joiners are completely different. (Well, I doubt they will get a JB...)

So I assume that I have about a 0.001% chance of getting a 7+ AT&T matte black even if I was first 10 in line?

According to Apple's statement today, there is no releasable stock of 7 plus units in stores. I take that to mean no one without a current reservation is getting a plus. They might have units for swap if someone gets a DOA or whatever. But to change colors or the like, doesn't look like it.
 
I am wanting to know if anyone who called in and spoke to someone on the IUP team, giving them their phone preferences, got the two emails yesterday morning? One of the emails had the link to check new stock and one to give your phone preference again. Did you fill that form out again?

There was absolutely no change in stock to the 2 stores in my area. I did not fill out that form again for fear it would mess up what my rep already put in for me. I have emailed and left voicemail for him asking for an update with no response. I guess I am left with no other option but to fill out that form and wait another 48-72 hours for contact.

This will be the first time I have been unsuccessful with getting my phone on launch day. Not a big deal, but I have been very put off by this IUP and how much effort we are having to go through for something that should have been well planned by Apple. I just want my new phone before i have to make my 13th payment on the upgrade at the end of this month.

my agent and have no idea if I will have a phone waiting for me at my 'preferred' store or not. I didn't get any of the emails with forms/surveys/info since then.

I'm about to write Tim/the ERT to see if anyone can confirm the status. The original 24-48 hours has long expired, of course.

Thanks for the details! There was some talk that those of us that called 'earlier' (Sunday?) may have been processed differently and had phones manually reserved and didn't need to make our own reservation. If so, I didn't get any communication about it.
