And for those who don't get 3D? Just be happy with crappy satellite images?

This is a good point. As an iPhone 4 user, Apple has (in my humble opinion) significantly made my iPhone 4 less usable.

Good business from them to 'encourage' me to upgrade to their new device, but to be honest, my iPhone 4 does all I need. And I did use the old Google Maps app a great deal.

It does seem UK coverage in the new Apple Maps app is very poor though.

They are a step back for me. My local area in South London has major points of interest in completely the wrong place e.g. No 1 on a street is half way up. If you click on the point it shows the right address so there is obviously something wrong with the underlying GPS data or software.

I live around the corner from a high school that changed its name around 35 years ago. I just looked, it's listed on the Apple map by its old name.

Try a major city like York. It's all in black and white. Businesses are missing or misplaced and names have to be spelled exactly right.

It's not any better in Central London.

If I look at my house there are eight points of interest in the surrounding area.

Literally every single one of them is wrong.

I used it a little bit yesterday. Worked fine. My city streets looked good, and points of interest were accurate. Travel times were good as well.

Mapping is just not something I get into like some people that want internal Best Buy maps and bus routes.

From my perspective and purposes Apple maps is fine.

Traffic

I think the traffic info has taken a step back.

Whilst Google's was simple in that it just highlighted most roads in either Red, Amber or Green, it was a very useful way to plan a route based on the flow of traffic. This is particularly useful when driving in/out of London.

All maps seem to have now is the occassional roadwork or road closed symbol, it doesn't give any indication of how busy the roads are or what the traffic is like.

Really!?! Apple Maps aren't that bad...

I don't give a monkeys about 3D.

The mapping data is flawed, out of date and the search sucks.

Postcode search of my local area is a good quarter to half mile out. My parents place is two entire streets away. The POIs are hopelessly outdated - restaurants that have been there for 15+ years are missing, small ones that closed their doors 3 years ago are listed.

Search for something big and well known like Manchester United Football Club and it returns the ground for a community team rather than one of the biggest clubs in the world.

I'll be sticking with Co-Pilot.

Am I the only one that finds this street name ironic? I'm seeing more and more of these 'cloud' views from iMaps. It's starting to become iconic.

It is just a street name someone found. It probably wasn't hard. I'm sure you can find that on Google Maps too.

I agree that these maps are not as good as google's offering. I can only hope that they improve the maps quickly, rather than waiting for annual iOS updates to improve the maps...

I live in ATL and i cant see problem?

If I gave you my address you would see the problem. I tried it on my 4S and iPad3. I didn't expect to see a difference (but hoping).

I also put my work address in for navigation (downtown Atlanta) and it took me a way that NO other GPS I have ever used took me. I have a Garmin, built-in Nav in my car, and Waze on my iPhone and they all said the same things. iOS6 maps it different. It took me off the interstate on some back roads that made no sense.

Knowing this it will be hard to trust when I'm in an unknown area (and I travel a lot).

But man-o-man what a cool 3D picture of my office

So far Apple Maps actually appears to be working well in the Charleston, SC area. I can only speak for the accuracy here, but it seems to be very good.

I'm in Quebec. As you guess, lots of cloudy areas in which you can't see anything.

My home town's name is messed up, they call it by the name of another town about 70 miles away. Nice! I was able to submit the "problem" though, but I don't expect too much.

I did try and work up a head of steam from the righteous indignation of having a function I didn't use much having been replaced by one that isn't apparently as good but I failed to get quite as wound up as many on here

tbf I do live and work in areas well covered by Apple maps (London) and I can imagine I'd feel a bit differently if I lived somewhere that wasn't as well covered (and if I used it a lot) but even then I think I could probably avoid the wailing, gnashing of teeth and rending of clothes that's on display here by using a shortcut to google maps online until the app came out.

But then I'd miss a good opportunity to be a drama queen. ;)

It's definitely a work in progress, but I like the direction Apple is headed. It's a solid app, works really well and has great labels, turnbyturn, and 3D. In my area at least, it works just as well (if not better because of the more recent satellite imagery) as Google Maps.

According to apple maps I have moved

Maps is actually more accurate on my house than the "find my current location" option (which seems to think I'm sitting in my neighbor's backyard). Seems like it's really hit-or-miss... Which sucks for the miss people, but not really that big a deal for the hit people.

Best of luck to you miss guys. :p

I've never understood the blame or praise for maps on cell phones. Neither Apple nor Google own the satellites that are in orbit that are required to gather satellite imagery. If there's a cloud on a map on your phone, that's not Apple's fault. Blame God.

Apple maps are completely terrible. The roads around my house have been here for 5 years now and they are still not on this mapping software. They've been on Google for 4 years!

I am just going to continue using waze or other program but it's the biggest disappointment for iOS6 because it was the feature I was looking forward to more then any other!

Wow, Apple just keeps screwing us

Boy am I sorry I upgraded to IOS6. No street view on maps and the maps suck. Only Google map I find is Google Earth (which sucks also) Does anyone know if there is an old Google Maps App that can be loaded? I am going to really miss the street view.:(

Seeing as how god doesn't exist, and Google manages to source satellite images that are largely free of clouds, yeah, it is kind of Apple's fault.

It's so bad it's tragic.

That is exactly how I feel.

Here in South Korea the coverage is the worst I have seen of any map app on a smartphone. Against Google and Naver, a local search company, Apple maps looks like a high school geography project.

I suspect this is going to have an effect on iPhone 5 sales here.

It's all about data and with Apple's vast resources they seemed to have been incapable of licensing first class map data from in country providers.

Some people on this forum said "oh! it's a beta or oh! it's still a GM" Well now it's live and it's rubbish!

Truly, truly tragic.

It is apple's fault. They are tasked with making sure that that isn't the case and not updating said map if it is. I know I would rather have a slightly older map where at least I could see compared to a new cloud.

Really!?! Apple Maps aren't that bad...

Ooooh pretty - fly over - because I always travel by helicopter!

MAPS please, not pretty 3D BS imagery that does nobody any good.

You mean, blame evaporation?
