Seeing as how god doesn't exist, and Google manages to source satellite images that are largely free of clouds, yeah, it is kind of Apple's fault.

Glad you answered that, I wasn't sure the poster was being serious. They obviously know nothing about map data. Most hi-res imagery is flown under the clouds !

My city looks like a pixellated mess, if I zoom in any further it jst gets worse. On top of that I noticed one particular area, Spondon, is spelt Sponden, so when I search my map to get there it doesn't find it. The state of maps at the moment seriously worries me.

Small world this internet lark... that's where I live! I was scrolling along reading the comments and my area pops up :D

Just so you know, the "Sponden" spelling has been present since iPhoto started geotagging!

I think the Apple Maps is a great starting point but I am alittle concerned how much behind the service is compared to google... seems to me we are be punished...

And just to rub salt into the wounds, google released new map updated for Android yesterday. New feature includes syncing between desktop searches and mobile. And this kool new zoom:

That is pretty neat.

2012: Using 2 fingers is a problem ("You no longer have to use two hands or two fingers...")
2007: Being able to use more than one finger at a time is revolutionary.

Not knocking that feature, just found it funny.

I also beg to differ...

OP is delusional, the map apps does suck. I live in an apartment complex that sits above a supermarket, last night did a search for the supermarket and it had it positioned several blocks north of where I live. When I looked this morning, supermarket properly appears now at where I live but the erroneous one still appears several blocks north. I can't even imagine if I had to navigate through an unknown area and searched for a POI, how many errors would come up that I might be counting on. Thank goodness for Navigon, though google maps app was great for looking up something quickly.

Flyover, while cool, is not the fundamental reason why people use a maps app.

If the maps aren't accurate, then the whole app is trash regardless of what extra super cool features it might have.

Very true, the Flyover has the 'cool' effect because people just got it but it's a gimmick. It serves no function other than to just fly around a few buildings. The maps app has most of the time been used for people to get from point A to B which is more important than this joke of a feature.

Bring back Google Maps Apple!

Tried out the turn-by-turn in my small town with 10k inhabitants, which worked perfectly for me. So far very pleased, more testing to come!

When I installed iOS 6 last week, the first thing I did was open the new Maps on my iPad. It was right where I'd left it last time I used Maps on my iPad, In Vancouver BC, where my wife went on a weekend getaway. Without clicking anything, I saw a major typo. Big as day. The kind that can affect directions.

So far, it's been OK for the places I've used it, but I think it's definitely got a LONG way to go. But saying it "doesn't suck" based off your limited usage patterns is a far cry to go. I literally didn't have to do anything and found problems.

nobody said they suck they are just weak

only tom tom and yelp... they should've gone with foursquare for businesses

I'm not entirely disappointed, ya it has a few small glitches here and there but it will only get wayyyyy better in time. More businesses will register and I think in time it will top googles. I have yet to use turn by turn navigation and I'm excited to see how it will turn out. I'm using a 4S and flyover is flawless

It will get way better in time? This is what people said with iOS pre release.
Also, with the vast quantity and severity of issues, its going to take a very long time, too long in fact.
Google has put an immense amount of development into their maps, apple is not going to be able to compete with them for years, minimum. And the sad thing is I think apple will make it harder for themselves, they are not even committed to going slowly but surely to ensure everything is perfect, they have rushed out these maps and hastily added features like the helicopter view. Helicopter view is incredibly useless and was simply the answer to the question "What can we do that is like street view but takes no time or effort?" I know, lets fly over places and take pictures! Sure its exactly what a satellite does and hences adds no functionality, but we can market the hell out of it!

i might have used the maps app once in my life. so i could care less how good or bad it is now . i use the nav in my car when i need directions

I wish I could delete it its that bad, not only are the maps wrong, or outdated, they even look ugly, Google Maps is superior in every way, I do not care about 3D, its not even that good when I tried it.

Yeah, flyover is AWESOME if you're in a PLANE or HELICOPTER. Useless for conveyances such as CARS.

I love Apple just as much as the next person but please don't blind yourself here. Apple Maps sucks. Thee isn't a dick big enough in the world to express just how much it sucks.

Apple's fly over is a little prettier then Googles. Just like Google though its a useless feature.

Boy am I sorry I upgraded to IOS6. No street view on maps and the maps suck. Only Google map I find is Google Earth (which sucks also) Does anyone know if there is an old Google Maps App that can be loaded? I am going to really miss the street view.:(

I need traffic info, new maps is just limited to main roads. You also can't tell if it's down or not since there is no data for light traffic.
