i might have used the maps app once in my life. so i could care less how good or bad it is now . i use the nav in my car when i need directions

I have a stand alone nav in my car as well and, while I have never used the Map app for directions nor do I think I ever will, I still have ample problems with the new maps.

As I've said elsewhere, I regularly use a bunch of fitness apps to map, track my progress, and share/ compare with my friends. Not the most helpful anymore when the maps are outdated and don't fully make sense.

If I need to tell someone where I am, I could (in the past) open the map app, center it on myself, drop a pin and have an accurate address. Nearly every time I've tried it with the new maps, it's (if I'm lucky) a few hundred feet off.

Geofencing is also completely gone. Granted, even Google's Maps had my location a little wrong, but I was able to drop a pin, see what address it thought I was at (Google had me 2 doors down), and go from there.

The closest address Maps now gives me is 400 feet away in the middle of the woods. Awesome. No more 'remind me when I get/ leave home.'

Apple maps doesn't suck if you live in a major city. But for the peeps who live in small towns, they are screwed.
Apple should have "matured" their maps program before bundling it with iOS6.

Ok guys, just download a maps app until this thing is better.
I remember when Google maps SUCKED too.
It wont be long.
I for one am happy with it.
Its awesome so far for me using it.
Its more accurate for my home than Google maps, Bing map, Garmin.
I like the integration it provides.
I like how I dont need to set my screen to NEVER turn off just to keep map open like in Google Maps
I like with screen off, you still get turn by turn and when the turn is approaching, the screen powers up in lock screen displaying map briefly until you turn then powers off again.
I like the banner it displays in the top giving directions if you've left the app to do other things.

Theres pluses guys, its not all bad. Google maps still to this day doesn't have that kind of integration.
Tap the brakes a little. Give it time, it'll get better.
Boy, times are real good these days when we expect everything perfect....right now, no waiting.

Hell, Google built Android how many years ago and still to this damn day, even on Android devices, Google Maps wont do turn by turn and it has no integration like new Maps.

I live in Los Angeles and traffic data is unusable. Like for instance now, google maps shows rush hour traffic jammed all over the city where with iOS6 you would think traffic is clear because there is no info on most roads. Only freeways and some main roads show a dotted red line

Clearly, Apple is still working on maps. Given that, and my own experience, I'd give Maps like a 7/10.

By the way, do you live in McDonough, GA? My aunt and uncle have a house there.

See I feel like Apple Maps has a lot of potential to become great in the future, I just wish they had waited to implement it until it was up to par. I understand that users help make the app better by sending data, but still.

On Google Maps my entire University campus is labeled wonderfully and it's so detailed. When I was a freshman, I could find my way around campus using my phone and didn't have to walk around with a paper campus map.Apple Maps has absolutely no buildings on campus labeled at all.

I'm interested in trying out the Nav system (I have a 4 right now, so we'll play with this when I drive to Colorado this weekend) because I think it might be the front where it really shows its potential. I also want to play around with using Siri to get me directions.

For now though, I'll wait patiently (sorta) for a Google Maps app in the App Store.

Flyover

Very true, the Flyover has the 'cool' effect because people just got it but it's a gimmick. It serves no function other than to just fly around a few buildings.
Agreed. If I want to flyover, I can get a PC and Microsoft Flight Simulator. It's more challenging as you have to avoid crashing into the skyscrapers. :D

Yep. Apple maps are not terrible POS.

Which of these are not like the others?

Apple Maps lookin pretty good in San Francisco and areas surrounding. :D

Edit: gotta say, I actually LIKE how the new Maps looks! (font, colors, overall feel) I like both Google's and Apple's.

I'm sure Apple, will do the right thing here--whatever that is.

This reminds me of Antennagate, a non-recommendation from Consumer Reports, Google/Android crowing. Yada Yada. Apple gave everyone a free case. Millions spent on that. The bad PR didn't seem to be a problem. Maybe it even helped. And the stock tripled since 2010.

I'm interested to see what freebie they offer this time. Maybe a free navi app while they get their act together. Some navi company or companies could be getting very rich.

Besides I have a Garmin in my car.

In what looks to be a post-apocalyptic world, Apple's newly renovated flagship Manhattan store apparently now serves as a gas station.

I could stay up all night pointing out just how bad Annapolis, MD is alone. Some of these are really, really bad mistakes for roads that are hundreds of years old in a state capital.

That's why I posted the image of Apple's world famous store in NYC. One would think that, after making all the headlines and renovating it last year, they would at least have it's local area correctly labeled.

Needless to say, there are plenty of problems in major cities in the US... and, if they're that bad here, I can't imagine what the rest of the world is dealing with.

Yeah talk about a "you should feel bad" mistake there.

Well DONT AGREE. Cos still - Google Maps has details in big cities, like sitewalks, passes through the woods, small passages that are even almost hidden.

Apple Maps has only major roads. And this is a phone... The maps should be like Googles because most people who navigate with a phone, use it as they WALK.

Maps is to date, the most crappy thing from Apple yet.

And not just that the roads are not listed. 80% of the world is in C64 mode and black and white. Thats a 0% for Google where I can zoom into my Garden eventhough I live in a small town. I even have street view online with google.

And then that EVERY store here in Denmark is like misplaced by 12 miles.

I live in a small english town, the mapping here is awful. I have a nice recent aerial view of the town, however things like petrol (gas) stations are literally 500 yards or more out from their true location. The one opposite work on the main road through town, according to google maps is in a dead end residential street. The same in the town centre, all the local businesses that are on the map are all in the wrong place. They were all correctly placed in google maps of course.

Not altogether true. I live in a remote are and Apple Maps has the best maps of the area. Why? Because I'm the one who mapped it into Opentreetmap and Apple ripped it off :)

So what? Whats the possible use for the flyover? Not having to spend a thousands dollars to rent a chopper to do the same?

Its nice for my kids for about 15 minutes, even then they get bored with it as its useless.

The wrong data in roads and poi's together with the lack of a lot of features people did actually use daily is a lot worse then a useless "nice to demonstrate on keynotes" feature like flyover.
