Fine by me. Pour the ads in if you want Apple. People will either go elsewhere or simply put up with the ads.

Either way I'll be taking another vacation thanks to my Apple stock:cool:
You'll only be taking a vacation if you bought it a couple years ago. It's only increased 0.31% if you bought it about 1 year ago. That's almost nothing.

Well I usually use google mops anyway sooooo. Not really a big deal. The only thing I don’t like about google maps is if you disconnect from CarPlay let’s say you step out to pump gas, it doesn’t resume navigation unlike Apple Maps. And Apple Maps offline mode works with new location directions. Again for road trips. But google is great for commuting to and from work.

Maybe they’ll just put ads on the website version. that would be okay.

Hardly any Surprise these days.
We only need forced VR/AR with the view of free user filled with endless ads. It’s going to be funny I reckon.
Apple literally only cares about money at this rate. Oh wait they already did.

Let me guess: Tim Crook is going to charge customers a subscription fee if they want to use an ad-free version of Apple Maps?

You are the product.

After spending a fortune to get yourself into the ecosystem to avoid yourself being the product, you are still the product.
It’s really unfortunate that despite all these, high end android products cost just as much as iPhone, meaning switching doesn’t even save money on hardware if comparable experience is desired.

People use Apple Maps? Can’t speak for the US, but the navigation alone is shocking enough to avoid using them in the UK despite any potentially beneficial features that may be in there. Takes you to the wrong place regularly, particularly if trying to visit a commercial address, and also does not take you the quickest routes, plus the traffic updates are far behind Google Maps.

I’d love for Apple Maps to be better, but currently they suck.

Honestly, I've always preferred Google Maps to Apple Maps, but am trying hard to use and appreciate Apple Maps, at least on my Apple devices. If Apple starts putting ads in AM, I'm definitely going back to Google Maps.

If you keep a close eye on Gurman’s track record of predictions, you’ll notice he’s been churning out more and more nonsense. Why?
Because he’s realized that nonsense and bad news sell like crazy. And sadly, this seems to be the case everywhere!

And this is where Apple slowly start to become Google. Greed knows no bounds.

When there is no difference between Google and Apple, then there is no difference between Android and iOS, except that one has much better AI and assistant so many people will switch to Android.

Will they never learn?!

It seems I still cannot get an answer to my simple question...

Can somebody please explain to me how to manually choose two different points on the map? Both start and end?

I need to check for example how long it is going to take me to walk/cycle from one point to another - how do I do this? I couldn't find a way.

And if it really is as it is, then this must be the dumbest map app ever.

Thanks for any help.

And meanwhile check the app Mapy.cz. ;)

i had some issue with google apps crashing in 18.3.1 during trip to japan. had to rely on apple maps for two days until i figured out how to wipe the google llc file to restore app stability. one of the hardest two days using crapple maps. biggest flaw is you click on restaurant or store review and there are 1 or two at best. very lame. google maps kept me from the bad restaurants and businesses.

Has there ever been a pro consumer policy that Apple stuck with? It feels like they always fold or reverse course 3-4 years after their brave stand.

Waze for driving.
Google Maps as alternative for driving.

Mapy.cz for anything else - nothing can beat it at the moment when it comes to walking, biking, cross country skiing and ski resorts maps.

Deleted it a few weeks back and moved to Organic Maps, which is entirely offline and actually works anywhere unlike Apple Maps even when there are offline maps.

Can see Apple's recent decisions are basically: start doing the things that differentiated you from everyone else for not doing them.

More excrement.

Organic maps is excellent!

It looks great the map rendering and colour scheme is way way way clearer and in dark mode and one of the UI jumping around zooming in and out exactly when you dont want it too is not a feature, so Thanks.

No chance there is an Organic Music app!?! 😅

Yes, but I find that Google Maps has better traffic and incident alerts.

I still use Google Maps business reviews, and restaurant menus that have been uploaded by users.

So it's not about the showing of ads but the functions the app has. That's a different story, and maybe with ads more money can be invested in developing Apple Maps as well so you can get the same level of quality from it.

Organic Maps are wonderful. I can't say enough positive things about it. I will add that it actually saved my life once as well. I was in a storm in the Tian Shen mountains in Kyrgyzstan and the paper maps we had were wrong. Managed to get off a mountain path thanks to them as a last resort. The dataset is from OSM and it's better than OS Maps in the UK and some mapping agencies in some countries.

It is cross platform as well. Have used it on Android (LineageOS on a Pixel 7A).

Organic Music, no. VLC is the closest thing I've found.

Edit: typical screenshot - middle of Pompeii site marked up with stuff I wanted to see.
