Cant help but wonder why a man in such a powerful and protected position as Tim Cook, only publicly came out as gay in late 2014?

It’s a very hard thing to do for most people. Although who you’re attracted to shouldn’t matter to anyone else it does for some reason and can turn your entire world upside down. Friends and family can react angrily or even violently, everyone stops seeing you as a person and sees you as a “gay person”, and people you thought would be ok with it no longer talk to you. It can be a life shattering experience.

In general I don't like when good initiatives, or even just good intentioned initiatives, are conquered by companies who in turn tend to sell items based on such initiative. This is regardless of my agreement with the initiative itself.

Has Apple conquered some aspect of Pride Day, or that is supports equal rights?

Because I don't see it that way. Even if there is an economic motivation behind it, they certainly know they alienate people by supporting pride, so it cannot purely be about expanding their market. Tim Cook is a member of the LGBT community, so I do think that he has personal support for pride and I'm fine with companies showing support for it, whatever other motives may be behind it.

It's certainly up to each individual, but yeah I find the picture of march for rights mixed with a company's logo (and a Big Brotherish company nonetheless) somewhat... weird. But ok, it's just me I guess.

I am pretty sure they support your wallet first... :)
At any rate, I wonder why LGBT+ individuals are not complaining about all this virtue signaling by "virtuous" companies. Yes, I do understand about discrimination and other stuff, but to me all these initiatives are a blatant tentative to appease a crowd. Heck, even IKEA is selling rainbow colored bags...

Side note: the logo looks AMAZING, I must admit.

Some are voicing concerns about the corporate involvement in various celebrations. Personally I don't mind, companies can simultaneously provide support and visibility and benefit from the good press - being a win in the latter doesn't diminish the former.

Ah, very nice then. Although that month doesn’t really get the daily recognition it deserves.

Since when are Armed forces and emergency services a class of oppressed people who aren't afforded the same rights as the majority of Americans?
Does it have to be? I’m pointing out things that are worthy of more appreciation than they currently receive. That’s all.

Are there any people of the LBGTQ+ community that finds corporate influence in pride month bothersome? I tend to question the motivation of the marketing departments of most big named companies and this scenario is no different. I can see both sides of the argument being "well they help with awareness and funding" and the other side where it's a opportunistic companies trying to pander. I just don't see many articles written about the latter and wonder if there's a larger group against the increasing corporate involvement in this movement.

They had the pride flag flying over 1 infinite loop yesterday too.

Interesting. I am really curious to see how this evolves. It could certainly be a win-win for the LGBT+ community, or it might end up as in some youth sport leagues in which the idea is to have the kids play while in reality parents take over every single aspect of it...

As Corporate America has a lot of weight behind it, support from companies is crucial. Yes, they do it to sell stuff. But the fact that supporting the LGBTQ community nowadays boost sales, sends out a powerful message to the more conservative inclined.

In the EU, we see political parties joining these parades, clearly some of them only join to get more votes. So yes, there could be complaints about these things, but seeing how long the road ahead is for the LGBTQ community in many countries, it seems contra-productive

I guess that's my question. When does support stop being support and becomes either empty virtue signaling or downright marketing strategy (which at one point will lead to a certain amount of backlash)? It's probably too early to tell.

Jony Ive is right Tim Cook has no interest on what product they're making he is focused on this. Obviously for business perspective this generate big sales that what is Apple right now and the board of investors loves it. Also Jony is probably got tired of Timmy shoving his colorful designs like bands for every Apple products.
