Cant help but wonder why a man in such a powerful and protected position as Tim Cook, only publicly came out as gay in late 2014?

Because all people and their personal and professional lives and associations aren’t the same, and what may be a simple decision for one person may be extremely complicated for another, so everyone that has the luxury of coming out at all only does so when time seems to work for them. Was the whole country supposed to come out at one ideal time? Perhaps at a cultural high water mark, 1976, or 1992?

My favorite part of homophobia is that most of its practitioners believe that an unmarried 34 year old middle eastern jewish liberal man who liked sandals, famous last dinner parties, and traveled with an exclusively male entourage his entire life, has taught them that homosexuality is wrong.
What sucks, is it gives Christianity a bad name. I’m a Christian and gay, so it’s tough to see people like him share these uneducated and hateful posts. The fact that he believes homosexuality has only been around the “past few decades” illustrates his lack of education on this topic. But sadly, he spouts misinformation and hate and just adds to the divide of religion, primarily Christianity and the LGBTQ community that exists today.

I was told there can’t/won’t be one because it would be homophobic???

It wouldn't be homophobic, but it would be completely missing the point of why LGBT pride arose in the first place. Most calls I hear for "straight pride" are out of spite. It's about showing up the LGBT community. Not out of any real pride in your heterosexuality.

One can be Christian and disagree with homosexuaity and still not HATE anyone. I am a Christian. I believe it's a sin, but I don't hate you because of it.

You know, I had this long reply ready to go, but then though, "I am not going to change this person's mind, so why even bother". You are entitled to your opinion that you are giving, even though (based on your comment) you are not part of the LGBTQ community.
Fair enough.

“Get yourself together” and “act like you were created” aren’t exactly warm and welcoming. You didn’t say these words, I was responding to someone who did.

The fact that this mocking of the LGBT community with “blablabla” exists without consequence is proof enough that Pride month is needed.
The logic in your claim is perfectly consistent with the rest of the logic that is used in that camp. LOL I am very proud of your pride. Can I come and bow down somewhere for those folks and massage those egos a bit, that they can feel secure and unharmed. I really don't want to say anything that will harm those fragile souls.

It's just a weird thing to say. "Thank you for supporting me". As if we have some kind of illness or disease.

The longer us gay people are shown to be different, requiring our own special month, just for us, the longer it'll take for being gay to be normalised.

Yeap, I have to admit these days if someone told me they were gay i’d be like, woopdeedoo what do you want, a medal? I don’t see the need to celebrate your sexuality, it seems weird these days to do so.. but in my country gays seems to have just as many rights now as anyone else, so they don’t deserve special treatment as they are treated equally to everyone else as it should be.
Otherwise your being singled out as a group.. attempting to claim your somehow special and above everyone else?

Apple joining in to me is nothing more then a poor marketing ploy. What’s annoying is how they only do this for THIS event, to celebrate those fallen heroes they decorated a table on their canteen and tweeted a photo of it.....

This pride bs is ridiculous. Human from more than 1000s of years are straight men and women. Only in the latest decades people started to think that they are not in the correct body. Get yourself together and behave as you were created... this is so wrong...
I think this illustrates why the parade is still needed. People still think it's ok to lash out and people are still unsure if they can feel the way they do.

The fact that it evokes so much emotion shows we have a way to go. People celebrate various things on various months but few, if any, get this kind of reaction.

Your so called creator created homosexuality even in the animal kingdom next time you pray ask him about it sure he'll answer your question.

Unbelievable that phrases like this are allowed to be uttered without much consequence. I would urge all people to “get themselves together and behave as they were created” which is in the name of love, not hate. What is “so wrong” is mindsets like these.

Seriously? Considering that even today in 2019 gay people are regularly refused service, spit on, assaulted and discriminated against, it's no surprise to me at all that someone who is gay might have second thoughts about announcing it to the world.

when is straight month? JK
See above. Let me know when straight people are regularly subjected to the above simply for being straight.

Such bravery in this completely socially accepted lifestyle....

We now celebrate same sex pride as if it's completely rare and nobody knows what it is or that it's a thing needing to be made aware. I don't need to see a parade of a rainbow flag to accept the idea of two same sex people holding hands at my local mall. At what point is this celebration given the same treatment as biracial couples?

Good for you.... I feel resolved now that I know Baldilocks doesn’t hate me. Get a grip

SYFH all you want. Military Appreciation Month is May and has been since 1999. It took Google all of 0.59 seconds to find that information.

Which shows the commenter doesn't really care about military appreciation, just another keyboard cowboy (or cowgirl or cow-non-gender) on the wrong side of history.

YES! Thank you! Agree 10,000%!

Wrong, chief. I am one. I care deeply. This pride month thing has gotten more attention than the last 10 November's combined.

Wait... Your a Vet and you don't now about Veteran's month? And this is the entire LGBT+ community's fault?
