*THIS*

And FB bought it for a BILLION dollars? WTF?

There is a bunch of shares of Facebook accounted on this value, so this value is probably inflated considering that Facebook still didn't have an IPO. Also, Zuckerberg is expert on minimizing equities from partners...

Phil Schiller didn't want Apple to go down the *schitter* by degrading their reputation, that being one of uniformity and one-ness with the iOS and Mac environment. Allowing Instagram to run on Android and having Phil "approve" of this by publicly using their services would show that an Apple VP still gives his "thumbs up" to where the app is at, which in reality is not the case -- this is why Phil Schiller yanked his Instragram account -- he wants no part in it now due to it's affiliation with Android, i.e Google.
Quick, someone tell Phil that the iPad, iPhone, iTunes, iPod & Safari are all Windows compatible!

Lethal

I can't wait for this to make the tech sites. Last month Engadget posted a story with Jony Ive's interview in the Evening Standard and that post received over 1,700 replies, mostly Fandroids getting their knickers in a wad. :D

if you are looking for really nice professional pictures, what the hell are you doing on instagram?

Why is everyone in such a mood about his comment. In essence he's saying the app "sold out" when it went mainstream. Just proves that the instagram devs were only in it for the money. There are tons of iOS devs that would say the same. It's well known in the ios community that if you move to android it's to push volume sales and you've sold your soul essentially.

The android marketplace is where good apps go to die. They should re-name it the android graveyard.

Except on the contrary, it requires a lot less effort and time to make and maintain an iOS app than it does an Android app.

Oh boo-hoo. They're just out to make money like you, Phil.

Just make a better device and don't worry about the rest. You're already doing a great job. Keep it up!

Note: I'm not an Instagram user. "Oh look ugly filters on square photos...awesome. I'm such a good photographer now!"

So he's isn't allowed to voice his opinion? lol rich coming from a forum

To realize, it wasn't more than 5 years ago that MacRumors had Mac rumors on their front page. How times have changed. :p

Exactly. All the anti-Instagram elitism is laughable. It's a silly app/social network for people to post photos. If you're the type of person that gets so wound up over photo quality/expertise/integrity, then you're wasting your damn time complaining about Instagram. Find a more "professional" community that suits your tastes.

A perhaps more precise definition would be:
Shark-Jumping is, metaphysically-speaking, pretty much inevitable. No matter how inventive, innovative, and enjoyable a TV show is, there reaches a point when the cruel arithmetic of actor/writer/producer salaries and ego catches up with their diminishing store of original ideas.
As someone who has been hovering around TV, movies and FX since 1974, I can say there is absolutely no shortage of ideas. The stacks of proposed scripts could bury the new Apple HQ. The producers get in a rut. Writers they like, directors they like. It kills innovation.

This is why Apple abandons so much stuff so quickly. It is on the other extreme to the point of user pain, but I suppose it is better than death and JTS.

Can we please have tiers or a middle ground?

Maybe not quite this extreme . . . .

Thanks.

Good for you phil but i don't really care. I happen to use both android and iOS and i find it funny that a certain faction of iOS users felt like instagram "belonged" to them.

This guy drips arrogance.

Get a life kiddo. You make too much money to talk like a 12 yr old.

We still love ya Phil

So Phil, if a company wants to sell products to more than one platform to, oh I don't know, make a profit and let a wider group of folks enjoy it... you see that as a bad thing? If this is actually true, then please Mr. Schiller, tell me when Apple will be porting OSX and/or iOS to devices other than Apple's own? Actually, I'm currently waiting for Draw Something to come to the HP Touchpad. Just kidding Phil. I wouldn't want to enjoy that fun program until I get an iPad.

I agree with Phil. Instagram is definitely trash now. It's all pics of food, shoes, make-up, One Direction, and teeny-boppers doing kissy faces.

Let's face it, it's Myspace.

By Phil's logic, and by that I mean 'lack of', the same could be said of Apple's move to Intel, the iPhone revolution, iTunes on PC, or hell, anything else.

If the quality and integrity of a product / service is measured solely by the wants of an individual then everything on Earth has effectively 'jumped the shark' as nothing stays the same for long.

I would say whoever just pocketed that $1 Billion at Instagram is smiling at Phil's comments from a circular bed sprinkled with the finest coke and hookers Facebook can buy.
