Not sure I understand this one.
Perhaps he meant to say that it was cool when it was a small group of dedicated photographers, but now it's grown so large that all you see is random meaningless stuff?
Dunno. If so, he should have said that. This just looks weird, petty, and un-Apple-like.
Kind of out-of-character.
very true. Going android was a long over due move. going facebook on the other hand is another story. If it didn't jump the shark when it went to Android, it sure as hell did when Facebook bought it.

I don't think Phil knows what "jumped the shark" means.
You're joking, right? Did you not notice the weirdness and pettiness of Steve Jobs when he was alive, which set the tone for Apple?
I think Apple jumped the shark when they allowed instagram on the app store.
Hopefully this is just something Schiller thinks and not something that the majority of Apple employees are thinking - because if it is, it paints a really bad picture of them as a company IMHO.
This is the real suck. An individual with a personal opinion makes a comment and the blogs etc use it as hit fodder and it comes off like it was an official company statement

The day Apple took Computer off of the company name is when they jumped the shark. When they focus more on iOS instead of hardware is when they jumped the shark.God this idiom causes me so many problems...
With the above quote, can someone explain to me the severity of that expression?
Is it the equivalent of Michael Dell's famous quote saying he'd shut down Apple?
Did Apple jump the shark before Steve Jobs came back?
Is this another way of saying Apple (in its entirety) is no longer fundamentally competitive or viable for the remainder of its existence?
It seems so much easier to apply the expression to TV shows or film series than to a company. Thanks to whomever can help me get a better grasp.
