A totaly black iPhone with a seamless OLED screen? Please, take my money! Cant wait to see a moving wallpaper on a device like that!

Edit:
I couldn't resist to make a quick mock-up about my idea of a totaly black OLED iPhone. Would love to see it blacker than black.

this mockup looks terrible. the edge to edge display won't go to the very end of the curves.

It's a corporate phone, not a consumer phone. Drop the prices by $100 and you'll still complain about the 16 Gig phone.
A corporate phone....?

And no, there's absolutely no excuse anymore. Even a huge number of $400 phones are coming with 32GB storage. It is such a tiny improvement, literally only pennies more than a 16GB NAND module, that there's simply no excuse anymore.

I want you to ask yourself: If the situation was reversed, and it was Apple selling 32GB base models and Samsung had been stuck on 16GB since 2011...do you REALLY believe you wouldn't look down on Samsung for that? Come on now, get real. The creepy Jim Jones Apple Koolaid Club can't rationalize their way out of dumb decisions on Apple's part.

An S7 Eddge that doesn't sputter and lag. Samsung should be embarrassed that the 6 month old iPhone walks all over it in speed and multitasking tests.
....umm, not really sure what tests you're talking about. But no, in many benchmarks the S7 beats the A9.

I own an S7 and it definitely doesnt 'sputter and lag', buddy. If you own an S7 and it is 'sputtering and lagging', I would advise you to restore it. If you don't actually own a S7, then you don't really know what you're talking about.

It will be called the iPhone Pro ....

I don't mind the 7 not having smaller bezels. Larger bezels give case makers more freedom and allows them to offer cases with more protection. Smaller bezels might also compromise on battery capacity. I don't mind them getting rid of the 3.5 mm audio jack, a dual speaker setup is a bigger plus for me. I can see the 7 getting slightly thinner, especially considering a new, thinner Lightning port is in the works.

But the advancement in chip & software technology would produce more energy efficient operation & better heat management meaning Apple would barely need to have larger battery anymore. Smaller bezel is sexier. But I know
super thin bezel can be :

Something I have noticed very recently, and I mean over the last couple of months is the evermore negative feeling people on forums, not just this one seem to be getting toward Apple and Apple products.
I think it’s justified and it’s because Apple now seem to be milking their loyal customers. The software and products seem to be less reliable and their actions, (plists that purposely exclude older devices, features purposely held back for no reason - Nightshift anybody??, and rip off prices for storage - 16GB iPhone when the price to Apple of going to 32 or 64GB is probably £0.50 but we are charged £80!!), smack of profiteering.

A lot of the loyal users are feeling this. Loyal ones. There will always be the trolls who just come to wind people up and the fanboys that hated AMOLED before but suddenly find it interesting, but this trend I think is growing among the loyalists.

Anyone else think it's odd they'd do a major design overhaul in time for the 7S, but not for the 7?

I know they might not have it 'ready' but come on, this is Apple. Reality Distortion Field represent 2016.
Would save me money hanging on for a third year to buy a replacement phone if nothing has changed and a good one coming out the next. Not so good for Apple losing out though...

I think the new “curved” Samsung phones are ridiculous. Not impressed. I just want for Apple to blow me away with iPhone 7. The world’s most valuable company should start acting like it. Sadly, it seems that Tim Cook’s more concerned with being the ultimate bean counter than being the 2.0 version of Steve Jobs’ let’s reinvent the world.

A lot of assumptions in this rumor... I think its reliability is quite low

I'm with you. Considering Apple 's recent history, I'm expecting another major design overhaul in 2018 with the iPhone 8.

Good job Apple, welcome to where Samsung was at several years ago. Maybe you could even go beyond the pathetic 16GB base model some time in the 2020's. But then again, why leave 2011 when you don't have to?
The thread was about a rumored change in 2017.
You brought in Samsung and 16 Gb of storage.
Totally off topic and with a clear agenda in mind....

Decadence, excess, all roads lead to ruin

Those examples are not good. If Apple uses a curved display, it will simply wrap around the edges whereas they stop a few mm away from the edges now.

Don't you realize how absolutely inane that statement is? You could use the same logic to justify an 8GB iPhone. After all, if you need more you can just pay $100 to double, another $100 to go further, etc. right?

A phone with a 4K camera simply should *NOT* have 16GB of storage. That's just pathetic. you can shoot barely 20 minutes before you have COMPLETELY filled up your storage. Wow. Especially when it would have literally cost pennies for Apple to have put 32GB instead. No joke, not even a dollar. NAND flash has gotten so cheap but Apple seems stuck in 2011. It's sad and pathetic.

But worst of all, a $750 phone with 16GB...???? Come on now. There are Android phones less than HALF that price with 32GB. What a joke.

I used to be an iPhone guy even since the first back in 2007. But these days the iPhone is an awful joke, a punch line.

I hope that this year, when Apple does move to 32GB (it really just had to at this point), I hope their profit margins take a HUGE dive because they truly deserve it.
Android phones could even be given for free: they are pointless because they run android and not iOS.
Your hate towards Apple is shown in every single post.
You find them pathetic? Move on.
Android central could be a better place for you.

These days the iPhone still is the best smartphone I can buy.

you're all missing the point, it is:

iPhone 7 this year, iPhone Pro next year :)

I feel for Tim and the constant comparisons against 'The One', I think he is given a great deal less credit than he is worth. SJ checked out over 5 years ago, cancer had him for a couple of years before that. This means that Old Tim has been running the show for at least seven years, it is his work that made Apple grow into the The biggest tech company for a while.

The One solved a problem we all had, a mobile phone that could do the Internet very well. This was a huge issue for people and when he offered a solution the world lapped it up. All credit due, including phenomenal growth.
Technologically, we don't seem to have problems these days, we may have niggles such as 'ooh I want more Gigs without paying', but not big problems.
If you want Cook to appear as great as Jobs , perhaps, tell him the big problem the world still faces.

How about a chip implant, with wifi, so we can know everything, just at the touch of a thought? ...... Whilst our brain slowly fries.

So let's give credit where it's due. Apple products are very good and quite reliable, Tim has done in 'bit' in bringing them to market. Thanks Tim

LOL, from the original article, “…...with a curved 5.8-inch AMOLED display”. Oh, and, “…...with Apple rumored to be working with several different OLED display manufacturers”. Last time I looked, Samsung made OLED displays.

If BMW was rumoured to release a rotary engined M5 would you not expect someone to mention Mazda? Apple fans are so unnecessarily defensive.
Myopia at its best!

Significantly smaller than the current 5.5 inch?

Shouldn't be hard to do. My 6" Nexus 6 was smaller than the 5.5 inch iPhone. It has too much chin, bezel, and forehead. The home button hinders apple's love of making things smaller. (Oh wait, it's thinner they always push...)

I think LG nailed it with the home, power button on the back. I had an LG, went to the nexus, missed the back button and was excited to be back with an LG again. (Almost went back to an iPhone when they got larger....) If Apple did something similar, it would help with that size. The iPhones are ironically huge for their screen sizes compared to competing phones.
No, it's not. In ANY dimension.
But as usual android supporters distort reality and are up voted by well known haters.

Nexus 6 dimensions: 159.26 x 82.98 x 10.06 mm
iPhone 6S + dimensions: 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm

Your nexus 6 was BIGGER than the iPhone .
And driven by a ridiculous SoC....

People seem to forget how similar the first 3 and second 4 iPhones were

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4
iPhone 4s
iPhone 5
iPhone 5s

iPhone 6
iPhone 6s
...iPhone 7

There's been 3 distinct designs. This isn't as much of a change as people here are acting like it is

4/4s and 5/5s aren't that much of the same. 5 came with different display and display size, different casing material, different port, new antena band design but yeah...still square and the bezels did remain somehow the same.

I'm surprised this rumour is leaking now; Apple fans are looking forward to this years refresh.

If they do go down this route I can see the numbers being dropped and it just being called the Iphone.

I also wondered the same thing, but recently had the opportunity to use my friends Galaxy S6 Edge for the better part of a day and the curved edge for some reason actually makes content feel more immersive. Combine that with the beautiful OLED display and it's just awesome. It's really something you have to experience in person. A good example is in this video of the S6 Edge (starts at 2:50, but it's really evident around 3:06-3:13):
.

Watch that in fullscreen in at least 1080p and let me know what you think.
The only thing I can see about curved display is it distorting images near the edges.....
