I would love this so much! Right now I use an iPad and an iPhone in the field. One device would be a godsend and I can switch between portability and efficiency with less weight.

Foldable devices are the future. The technology just isn't here yet for the mass market.

Imagine a laptop with a fold down display, rather than hinges, or a phone that has a foldable display, once unfolded becomes the equivalent of a tablet.

They have not yet solved all the problems in the current model. The screen is still not full, the body is scratched, the camera sticks out and the phone is on it, etc.
It makes no sense to release something new, it will only add new problems.
Experience shows that even Apple needs years of development and testing to do a really good thing.

Yeah Samsung phones are flawless by comparison and Samsung doesn’t need all that extra development time.

I treat this post the exact same as the one MacRumors posted recently where a source said we were getting an apple car this year.

foldables will definitely not for the masses but i think there is a big enough market out there for them.

Samsung is a cheap copy of an iPhone, it has been from the very beginning and now.
If Apple spends more time developing, Samsung will do the same.

Oh no... I sat on my iPhone... and now I have 2.

I actually like the idea. An iPhone and an iPad combined. Makes sense to me... if they can make it happen. I like the idea of screen sharing tho. I could pop it up on a table and share part of the screen. ... if they make a larger one.

At least this iPhone purposely bends.

I'm holding out for the holographic phone.
I am... but I hope to stumble on the technology before apple. Make them zillions.

But on a real note a holographic iPhone and maybe a holographic AR... would define the future possibilities. Plus no need for giant headsets... just holographic vision.

So not a rumor but a prediction.. Wouldn’t be the first prediction that apple will do a folding phone eventually

I’m sure they would implement it well, but I have never understood the appeal of a foldable phone. Just seems to introduce structural weaknesses for benefits I don’t just see. What am I missing?

It’s targeting a niche of users that want large screens PLUS are data entry intensive.

if you go back to the first foldable large screen devices of this type it was the Nokia era E90. Business user. Wants big screen AND wants to type, but doesn’t want to carry a laptop. Tablets were not much of a thing back then.

Since then LG has come out with the V50 concept, targeted more at a consumer. And Microsoft has relaunched what was originally its “Courier” concept, targeted at media consumption.

Here I suspect Apple is going for the business user, because they have the consumer segments well covered with IPhone pro max and the IPad mini. Question is: in the post-COVID era, mass business travel is likely dead. So who is going to pay a lot of money to avoid carrying a laptop or larger tablet. Not many people.

They - and the others already launching foldables - will all have to do a lot of work to cut down the cost and market price of these devices, in order for them to make sense to consumers.

My opinion- The difference between this and other foldable phones is Apple won’t release it unless the IOS absolutely uses both screens in a way that makes and functionally works. Plus they would have the support from the developers to make this work
