Lots of weird “rumors” like Astro photo that is pretty much like nothing Apple will do. Maybe they spreaded false rumors to try to locate the leaks??

Did I make it before the brainiacs shouting "a solution in search of a problem" and "I see no value in foldable phones" brigade?!?!? Dang, no I see they are out in full force on this one. Anyway good stuff, and Apple is smart enough to refine the experience above and beyond what's currently available. Maybe it will be foldable, or rollable, or dual screens, who knows.

For the less capable let's break this down in a very easy fashion, you can have a larger, tablet sized screen which fits into your pocket as easily as your current smartphone. See? It's really not that difficult if you just apply a bit of mental sweat.

I am sure people will buy such a device, much as people bought the iPhone mini. But I would not expect it to be more popular than the mini.

Why wouldn’t they do that? It’s a big deal in the photography world - it‘s a well-known issue, for example, with sony cameras (search “star eater”). Apple considers cameras to be a critical feature of iphones, so certainly, over time, they will add more and more functionality so as to compete with dedicated cameras.

Nuts. The last thing I want is a foldable phone. One more place it can break ($1000 phone). But more Apple silicon is innovative -I expect this from Apple and will pay for it. A foldable screen is a gimmick for dumb kids.

i could get on board with iphone pencil support, jury is still out on foldable phone. hopefully Apple can shorten the pencil length for easier transport and storage in phone?

If they could give me an iPad mini in the same volume as an iphone, i may be interested. Seems unlikely. And there would likely be trade offs - you don’t want to have to unfold to see the screen. But the screen will be more prone to scratches (due to need to be flexible) so you don’t want it exposed (i.e. Folded with the screen on the outside).

Better idea is simply AR glasses that give you as big a screen as you want, anywhere you want it.

It seems we have a few people here that think bringing a beta product to the market is better than bringing one ready for the masses. Thats like people who brag posting first or making the first page of a thread.

No idea if this will ever come out, also how does one put a case on it? Either way i would be interested to see Apple and their take on this.

I don’t see the appeal to foldable phones. Seems really dumb to me but I guess there is a device for everyone.

I had one of the older models of the first duo screen phone. The Kyocera echo. Crap device but even then I only got it because it was cool. Same with 3D phones. I think this is a fad that will disappear

I’m sure they would implement it well, but I have never understood the appeal of a foldable phone. Just seems to introduce structural weaknesses for benefits I don’t just see. What am I missing?
The appeal is to carry a phone in your pocket that transforms into a tablet when you want one.

Go to your local Best Buy and try out the fold for yourself. You'll also see that it's much more durable than you think.

Nothing as far as I can see. I see no value in a foldable phone.
So you've never used your phone and found yourself rather having a larger display for the moment?

Every person who has ever used a phone has had moments where they wish they had a bigger display at that moment.

Foldable solve this problem.

All the people on this site criticizing foldables are only doing so because the competition has them right now and apple doesn't.

We hear this every time and it gets old.

Well, if Apple puts out a foldable device I’ll have no problem letting someone else buy it...

I'd get the appeal if the prediction was for a 10-incher. Pro Max iphones are nearly 7" already and are far cheaper than a foldable would be. I've never wished mine could be smaller.

The idea of foldable phones is nice, but the implementation hasn’t been great. There are trade offs that will be hard to solve (thickness, screen scratches, crease, etc.). I think most people see the implementations and aren’t impressed, and they assume the problems cannot be solved (we’ll have to wait and see).

Then you look at what Apple is supposedly doing with AR glasses, and one has to wonder if that isn’t a better solution to the “bigger screen” problem.

If it's structurally sound and robust, and able to be used like an actual phone, I would consider using it to replace both my iPhone and iPad, which I use for making notes in Goodnotes. One device instead of two and more portable sounds good to me.
