Pshh, better skip this year's pathetic "super cycle" and jump on next year's ULTRA cycle!
/totallyoriginalpost

But really, this isn't surprising at all. We received a decent amount of 8 rumors before the 7 last year, too.

So the iPad mini is not dead after all. It just gained voice-calling capabilities.

Sigh. All I ask for is a phone I can use with one hand 100% of the time. Anything else is unacceptable.

If they do in fact release such a large iPhone, I think any semblance of one-handed use will go right out the window. There's no way Apple would expect it to be operated with a single hand.

ts normal, this year, the iphone 7 goes with much less bezels to 5.8" from 4.7", next year the iphone plus goes from 5.5" to 6.5" and maybe with that rumoured apple pencil support

I want this so badly.

And just because Apple may not make a smaller phone for you doesn't mean you should hate! Btw I heard that they are making a 5.2" bezelless phone as well which will be smaller than the current 4.7" iPhone 7 so there you go.

i think with right gestures, like we have today the accessibility , not wider than 77mm not taller than 160mm and not thicker than 8mm, it could be, still one handed in most cases

Report: "Consumers don't want a smaller iPhone."

MacRumors Members: "OMG why Apple won't make a smaller iPhone, I want a smaller iPhone!"

Iphone 8 will be the pinnacle of the Iphone. There will be no need to go "bigger" unless you want an Ipad mini. I don't see them redesigning this phone for another 3 years or coming out with a bigger screen. I wish Apple would concentrate on making CarPlay better and improving sound quality. That with improved cameras is all they need IMO.
Yep. 3.5" is perfect size and Apple would never change it :)

It's going to be interesting how many iPhone 8 (or whatever they call the bezel-less iPhone) buyers, that have clearly never used an Android phone, get instantly miffed at how often they're touching the display and interacting with the phone at the bottom (where the home button used to be and where there were never any interactive elements to the left and right of it that home button).

Only then will they realise exactly how important the bezel, not to mention the home button, actually is to them. I use both an iPhone SE (with a cover) and a Samsung A5. I originally thought the A5 was mental until I realised exactly how often I was interacting with it simply through the way I was holding it and from how I was used to certain things on the iPhone and what it would and wouldn't do.

The change from a non-interactive part of the phone to an interactive part of a phone will be a significant thing for many iPhone users. This will go for both the lower home button area as well as how close the display goes to the edges of the phone at the left and right… the reason I mentioned the cover above was that 1.5mm extra on the left and right makes a significant difference to what my fingers are touching when I'm holding it.

My guess is 7S and 7S plus (Bezels) are gone next year and will be replaced with the near bezel less iPhone 5.85 (footprint of the 4.7-inch iPhone) and iPhone 6.46 (footprint of the 5.5-inch iPhone).

This.

I'd also be surprised, assuming the rumours are correct the 5.8 model launches this year at circa $1000, if any of these phones are sold at anywhere near the price of the current 7 models thus having significantly raised the cost of the phone.

Lol we gotta get away from these numbers.

I came to the comments to say the same thing as above, I see it has been said many times already. It is too weird to even discuss the 2017 "OLED" phone and 8 since we are actually waiting on the 7S. The rumored two-model line up including a 7S and 7S+ and a third model should consistently be referred to as any number of terms (Pro, OLED, 3D, AR, or whatever) but NOT 8, please..apple will not release two models called 7S and a single model and call it 8.

And now if you call the 2018 models 9, when they should be 8 and 8+; this is extra absurd since, and shows the flaw in calling the 2017 Pro an "8". If you were consistent with calling the 2017 Pro an 8, then next year should be a pair of 8S, and a some Pro version called 9.

With this logic you've totally skipped the 8S, which makes no sense.

How about a solution? Lets just say, "2017 model line-up could include, (insert rumors)" "the 2018 model line-up could include, (model line up)", etc.

3.5" was a terrible size. And who said they would never change it? I have a 6 plus and am having a hard time justifying going any bigger which is why the Iphone 8 seems like a great compromise at this point, maybe even an S8+? I just don't see the need to make anything bigger than the +. Apple follows Scamsungs lead and I don't see them going any bigger at this point.

Or about $2.75/day for a year. It's the cost of a cup of coffee a day.

Imagine if the only way Starbucks worked was that you'd pay $1000 for a coffee card where you could get 1 coffee a day for a year.

It doesn't work that way, neither does buying a phone. Most people pay in installments, so the price is not that high all at once.
This! The people complaining about the price of the iPhone 8 are starting to piss me off. No one seems to understand that their $1000+ phone equals out to about $40 a month. Stop going to Starbucks everyday and you can buy two! :D

It would be a clever marketing strategy.
This year they introduce iPhone edition, bezel free with OLED. A lot of people will buy it, 4.7 owners will have the similar size with a bigger display and plus owners will have the same display in a smaller size.
Next year they'll go back to two models, a 5.8'' similar to the edition model and a bigger phone, the usual Plus, with a bezel free design that will accomodate a display > 6'', a lot of people will upgrade from the edition model to have the bigger display, so another sales record.
The same year, or in 2019, they'll make an OLED version of the SE with about 4.7'' display in the usual form factor.

Good to hear since I'm keeping my 256 iPhone 7+ as there are just way too may problems with this forthcoming version 8. MAYBE by next year they will finally be able to produce a GOOD iPhone that will be worth spending way too much money to get. Between the 50% charging and no touch control and a few other things, maybe they can figure it out and make a DECENT iPhone in the way that this current iPhone 8 OLED SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. Comes a time when buying a new iPhone every year just needs to stop, especially when they plan to raise the selling price WAY TOO HIGH!!!

How can there be "way too may problems" and how do you know how "this current iPhone 8 OLED SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE" when the device has not actually been seen yet?
