He specifically used the word "pipeline" which would indicate he wasn't talking about the first 6 months of the year but what is coming this fall.

----------

That's one of the only issues I have with Cook's leadership (well outside of political differences). I'm not sure why he decided to move almost all product launches to September/October time frame leaving 6-9 months of nothing where others can and do fill the vacuum with all this doom and gloom, Apple can't innovate anymore nonsense. Hopefully this is not a long term strategic decision. Ideally it would be nice to have new product launches each quarter.

I totally agree with you as I'm sure many would, and you would think it would be better for Apple in many ways also.

As you say.

Perhaps iPads one quarter
iPhones another
iMacs
Macbooks

for example.

The media and public would always feel Apple were bringing out new things. Review sites would constantly be showing of new Apple products, and just as one product was dying off of things to talk about, the next quarters wave would come along.

Apple shops would not have one time of year when everyone wanted the new items

There would be a fuller feeling of advertising products in the public's mind.

I'm sorry one say it may be the unfortunate typical Apple arrogance, companies like Sony had it also. They feel they can do no wrong and customers will wait and buy regardless.

Broadwell has been delayed before it got started... no big surprise... come back in 6 months.

I guess it's a combo of holiday season and giving the developers time for osx and iOS yearly upgrades

I easily see the Air and Mini switching to ARM.

I for one hope to see it. For a vast majority of users, the extra processor power is just not needed. ARM get the job done. For those that need the extra power, well, that would be what the MBP is for.

----------

Can someone help me and explain why there are so many people begging for a 12" Air? I don't understand the need. If 11" is too small then 13" is really too big for this many people? And the other way around too?
Thanks!

It's rather quite simple i think. The MBA has an HUGE bezel. It should not be very hard for them to build a 12" sized chassis, but with the same screen that is in the current 13", sans bezel. Ergo, you get the best of both worlds. And no need for both model sizes.

----------

Slow news day more like - the Broadwell delays were already mentioned 9 days ago: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/07/09/broadwell-early-to-mid-2015/

Seems excessive to have a separate article just for the MBR 12. Can we expect an article each day for each Mac model?

Also, new MBA? But this sites Buyer's Guide still lists it as a (one of the few) Buy Now products.

I don't think you are being entirely fair here. That article that you referenced was discussing the delays Intel was facing. There was a lot of discussion at that time about whether that was a delay to Intel's general customer base in general, or to everyone. Apple has a lot of clout. If Intel is having a slow time ramping up, Apple is going to have first crack at the first batches rolling out the door. It was feasible to think that Intel was confident about getting enough out the door to satisfy Apple's needs, but not much more. Now, it seems this article is to make clear that the delay impacts Apple as well.

No it's not - the air is designed to be thin and light and the pro is designed to be powerful.

The air can get away with being less poweful and the pro can get away with being a bit thicker/heavier.

I would have agreed with you a few years ago before the current Macbook Pro Retinas came out, but currently, the 13" Pro is actually less wide than the 13" Air, only .03" thicker, and a half pound heavier. Those specs are awfully close.

If Apple is indeed working on a next generation of laptops, it's not hard to speculate a single chassis design for them in the various screen sizes the market desires. I could see the 12" replacing both the 11 and 13 inch MBA lines, but have just a regular Macbook and then a Pro version. Then probably just a 15" Pro version as well.

Out of curiosity why did you buy three? For extra power..? Extra screens??

(Serious question). Wouldn't a single 17" w/extra monitor (or a Dual G5!) have been better than 2 more PBs?

I had to manage different screens and at same time I had different software for visuals, each one with its features. So when mixing I had videos processed in different softwares and several different signals.

It was good because I was doing more "show" and I had an spare computer running in case one gave me problems (they never did) or I needed to do something extra like downloading something or modifying some extra request (all the time).

The 12" Powerbook were awesome. What I realized after having 4 of them was that just one or two months after the warranty expired, the motherboard burned out. Literally with the 4 of them.

Thanks God I had a friend who sold Apple computers in Venezuela who asked for a new mother board under someone else's warranty and I had them all fixed basically for free, and it was because it was too obvious Apple did something to those machines for them to stop working one or two months after warranty expired.

Eddie Cue said this year is one of there best lineups ever. Not seeing it so far. Not seeing anything actually.

They say that every year. We always end up with a new iPhone, that has leaked many months in advance, with the usual incremental upgrades.

This time the same. But wait... there's a small chance they launch a watered down iWatch, a seemingly worthless gadget that they will try to convince you is so important for your life. Just like with the iPad. Perhaps they even try to build in some feature like NFC in the iWatch and skip it for the iPhone, so you feel forced to own both. They gotta do some annoying product differentiation, that's for sure.

Now, break this pattern Eddie, and bring forth a true edge-to-edge 12'' screen Macbook that is not watered down. That would be useful.

Indeed.

It does seem odd that, arguably, one of the biggest and some consider best quality consumer electronics companies on the world today, is happy to be seen to have nothing much to offer other than Amazing words, for a lot of the year.

It's an interesting conundrum for Apple.

Prototypes leak out early - "Fail on double down on security, LOL Tim Cook fails". Discussion on what's wrong with the new product and how the existing products are so much better ensues, followed by discussion on Apple's decline into a company that no longer makes good products under Tim Cook.

Prototypes do not leak out early - "Fail on product pipeline, LOL Tim Cook fails". Discussion on how Apple is living off old products ensues, feat. Eddie Cue's comment on the product pipeline, followed by discussion on Apple's decline into a company that no longer makes anything new under Tim Cook.

Part of this is due, unfortunately to 3 years of pretty bland releases. Maybe (wrongly) people were used to the pace of releases in the few years previously (iPhone/iPad/Retina/Siri/etc.) but since then we've had the Mac Pro as the only standout "new" thing released by Apple. Oh, we've also had TouchID, which I love - but wasn't really 'breakthrough'.

You also have severe stagnation in several areas where they just simply need to refresh hardware (look at all of the calls for an updated Mini, and AppleTV). I understand that the MBA is waiting for Broadwell, but everyone else seems to be releasing HiDPI displays (yet on a platform that cannot support it well - Windows), and it seems awkward that Apple still hasn't updated them. The budget iMac was a little 'meh'.

In comparison, the other guys are continuing forward in various ways. Not cohesive ways perhaps, but you do hear about Android Wearables, and the new "Material Design" from Google, blah, blah.

It's an odd time. But if Cue is right (hopefully) then we'll see some standout stuff, we've got a lot of time left in the year.

Indeed, however remember.......................

CEO Tim Cook teased "the potential of exciting new product categories," and suggested that the company will announce new products in the fall. "We've got a lot more surprises in the works," Cook said. "Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can't wait to introduce in the fall and into 2014. We continue to be very confident in our future product plans." Cook said that there will be "really great stuff coming in the fall and across all of 2014."

7 months almost gone, and pretty much nothing so far at all from Apple.

Let's hope we have an exciting time soon. I'm sure people are expecting a LOT, but so far seeing Zero from just a large company.

Piggie - spot on - but remember it has been more than 7 months as the Fall of 2013 came and went with zip (not sure how to treat the nMac Pro). Tim needs to get his focus shifted from his lesbian / gay / trans gender / political agenda to getting all those touted vapor products to market.

Apple TV ???
iWatch ???
Mac Mini ???
iTV ???
NFC / BT Digital Payment ???
4K Apple Monitor ???
and.....

To me, the rhetoric from he and his team is way beyond what they are delivering.

The market was underwhelmed with the IBM yada yada. Fingers are crossed for a fantastic next 3 months or so, but keeping the faith is getting tougher.

Honestly I have to say, I have never seen a company say so much.
A CEO grin so much, look so pretty
Take on such non relevant staff to actually MAKING anything

And yet actually have nothing really to show.

It just feels like they are at the top of a wave, and just cruising, the odd tweak will keep them there another year.

I feel nothing dynamic coming at all, not in product or anything they say.
Just a general sense of smug :(

The iMac was made for the desktop and it just seems that's all there is.
I know people say why change something when it's right. but it can be nice to have something new.

We used to see new ideas and concepts, they just seem to take the easy path all the time now.

The Mac Pro was interesting for a few weeks, but it's price and odd unsuitable for normal people specs, have meant sit's just kinda died off into the distance.

they could for example make some more consumer MacPro's with parts inside for the more typical consumer, more than an iMac.

But I guess they won't as they would be afraid it may hurt iMac or Macpro sales :(

I'm sure many would love that kind of option.

I can see why Apple would consider switching to their own processors. Having to put up with intels delays must be frustrating.

I'm not advocating a switch to an A class processor, just that it would certainly help them with their release scheduling.

I don't want a 12 inch Macbook Air,Retina or not..people should have a choice..11 and 13 are good sizes..they should only make the screens Retina..

I'm considering replacing my iMac with a Macbook Air and this silly 12 inch model only rumors are disturbing me.

I Don't want the MBP as I do care alot about the aesthetics of the machine and I hate the way Retina MBPs look..with no logo and branding on fron bezel they just look generic and ugly..so I want a 13 inch MBA...but with Retina display..12 and 11 way too small..

"OS X has been living a secret double life"
"OS X can now run on ARM processors"

This.

Add to that my curiosity (and forgive my ignorance) of how easy it would be for Swift to recompile x86 apps to an ARM language, and optical processing.

Apple's got some really interesting things in their R&D labs.

I wouldn't be surprised when apple starts designing/manufacturing their own x86 processors

Ming-Chi Kuo will need to find an excuse to justify his stupid rumor again

he'll probably pretend Apple has production issues :p

Which would remove any ability to use Boot Camp, which would be a terrible idea...

Brian M. Krzanich - CEO

So let me try to answer your question. There’s a series of products that are on 14 nanometers. We always remember to do a Tick-Tock kind of products, plus we do a refresh of the Atom line typically, so we have Cherry Trail coming in at the end of this year and ramping in the first half. We have Broxton which is the follow-on Atom product as well and then the [Talk] (ph) or the real architectural shift on 14 nanometers is SkyLink which is also scheduled for '15. We have done no changes or shift to our 10-nanometer schedule but we won’t really talk about 10-nanometer schedules until next year. Skylake my next macbookR pro;)

I have a data only SIM with 50GB free Traffic.

I have a data only SIM with unlimited Traffic. LTE, of course.
I'm currently using it in my iPad Air but I would love to use it in my Macbook Pro when the WiFi stops working at my regular coffee shop (the barista told me they have an old crappy Asus router). :D

...can't wait for all the whine when people discovers that mba 12" retina means actually LESS usable screenspace (1152 x 720 retina) than the current model (1366 x 768) if now rumors are to be believed... :D (to get more desktop space scaling will be needed)

I like the current 11" (even though I could do without the thick bezel and a bit more resolution - but not retina, I want that little minicomputer to focus on other things than pushing far too many pixels than needed.)
