Something about all these "leaks and rumors" doesn't seem right.

We've had several supposed 'leaks' in the past month or so that seem to match up and now we're seeing actual dates for the announcement and release.

The thing is, Apple themselves have not mentioned nor confirmed anything.

Do you guys/gals think Apple would allow this many questionable sources leak their new design and not comment on it?

Do you all think as much ground this new 'date' rumor is gaining that Apple would not comment?

I guess not since they haven't in the past correct? Just seems funny that a company set on such secrecy and keeping everyone in the dark would not even comment disclaiming all we've seen.

Maybe they are controlled leaks.

Maybe everything we've seen/heard is true and they just don't care.

The best reaction is not to react.

Now your going up against Samsung Note 2, HTC , Moto and Windows phone 8 this fall.

Are you saying that the first Galaxy Note, earlier HTC phones, Moto phones and Windows Phone 7 were successful at foiling iPhone sales before? As far as I can see, they clearly weren't. What makes you think things will suddenly be different this time?

Mid Sept is good. The sooner the better. If it's the long narrow shape like the prevalent rumor shots show, I'll be taking a pass. There's no point in buying a phone that's a few mm longer yet no wider than I have.

At a glance, only the most observant will even notice the difference.

The big question I have, is will this become the STD form factor for the next few years. If so, I have even less interest.

I find it funny that always at the end they updated it w/ Jim Dalrymple after everybody else says the same thing he says 'yep'... Anyone can do that...

Obviously you don't know that when Jim repaonds that way, you can take it to the bank.

Literally a .5 inch larger phone than you already have. Camera will be marginally better, 4G (nearly all androids already have this), and NFC (all androids have this). iOS 6 = looks the same as every iOS ever made with a few new features you will probably rarely use.

/pass.

I can't see how the same interface, (assuming it works well is a massive issue). I started with the MacOS at Jaguar and save for a few rounded edges and new icons it feels essentially the same. That includes some new features I rarely use.
Sam could be said of Windows with XP. Didn't affect their sales, did it?

Bad Apple Wednesday. This is just another incremental update.
Siri is still not finished, maps are terrible (a lot are in black and white) and a larger screen/faster processor is only the minimum requirements to call it a new product.
Apple will no longer be the king of smartphones.

A Windows NT to 95 leap is required. iOS was amazing in 2006, but not now.
A few features have been added but generally it's just becoming a group of apps I can't delete and don't want which is out in an 'Apple Junk' folder. Apart from iBooks of course, which will remain forever ugly next to other folders.

So you want that big a leap in 5 years? You realize how unrealistic and unprecedented that is?

The palm treo OS to iOS in 2007 was the nt to 95 leap. You won't see that big a leap for at least another decade.

I don't think it will be an incremental update. It will be a complete redesign, and not the one we are seeing leaked.

There are just too many small details that don't fit the design mantra of Apple on a finished product. At the very best, these leaks are of an early prototype from who knows when.

As to the source of these leaks, well, it could anyone, anywhere. The fact that many of the leaks come via chinese companies that sell end users parts is very suspect. In a way, it's actually brilliant, produce "leaked" parts, take lots of pictures and submit them to all the rumor sites, then watch you site traffic spike.

It took Microsoft 5 years to go from Windows 3.0 to Windows 95 and that was a much larger and complex operating system.

Seeing as Apple have all the money in the world they should do something to move forward with iOS. iTunes is great, Mountain Lion is great, iCloud is great (finally), but iOS is slow.
Even trying to flick through the App Store or iTunes on the iPhone is painful, it's like it's not written in Obj-C at all and us just webbased. It's out me off purchases on more than one occasion.
The interface of iOS is old, despite folders, swiping page after page to find apps is annoying, only 20 icons per page is a waste if space with this retina display.

Happy to upgrade from the original iPhone. As the current phone is getting a bit long in the tooth, it's only fitting to upgrade to a stretched model.

Will be confirmed when the mouth of Apple speaks. Rumours are only rumours, no matter how they are spun.

But in saying that this is a good rumour and I do like the rumoured look of the new iPhone.

Whatever they release, I don't think it's going to be that different to what we have now.

I think the next big form factor change will come when they get this Liquid Metal stuff sorted out. Until then, no big changes.

Sorry to give you the bad news, but you're behind the times on this one. They've recently changed their linking to sources policy b/c apparently you weren't the only one who thought they werent giving proper credit. So yes, you were right, but you're not now. Oh, and by the way, if you had actually gone to The Verge, and read the scoop, you would've seen this with your own eyes.

How is this "bad news"? It's good news that they've changed their policy to give credit where credit is due. Right?

Nonetheless, as far as I'm concerned, they still have a long, long way to go before they can be considered a credible source of news.

To people who think this is a deliberate fake by Apple.

Why would they want to put out fake samples of a better future product, to make the rumour go round the world, so people may stop, and tell others to stop buying their current model now, as we have seen the better one about to be released.

Not sure how anyone could moan about this being an incremental update. A one piece chassis and rear plate, a different aspect ratio, improved camera and probably completely improved internals.

Change for the sake of change is not good engineering practice. It should be a steady evolution towards the ideal design.
