I don't understand why you have a problem with the screen size, it is a phone.

Oh okay.

No way. WHY DO PEOPLE THINK YOU NEED A HUGE SCREEN? Its a Phone!

No. No. No. Read Here

I don't want a flip phone I want a smartphone. That is why I have an iPhone. I also have an iPad for when I want a bigger screen. Not something I always carry with me. Not something I want to fit in my pocket. Not something I want to hold up to my ear and make phone calls with.

The more you repeat this the more idiotic it sounds. And you're going to be sadly dissapointed come September when you no longer have an iPhone you can fit into your pocket . You know, because 4" is so huge. It'll be like you're holding a iPad up to your ear, hahaha.

Even Apple doesn't believe 3.5" is large enough these days, so just get over it. You're beating a dead horse.

fastest way to get one?

So assuming I HAVE to get one of these ASAP after announcement or release; what's the fastest way?
1. Stand in line outside an Apple Store
2. Stand in line outside a carrier's retail store
3. Order it on the Apple Online Store
4. Order it from a carrier store
5. Order it from a carrier web site
6. Something else?

I got my 4S from an AT&T store and it took well over a month to ship...

Outside an Apple store.

Didn't Walmart start selling the 4S at midnight? And I believe it was either RadioShack or Bestbuy that opened at either 6 or 7 to sell the phone.

I'd suggest just staying up late on pre-order night and try to order for a couple hours until it goes through. Then just sit back and wait for it to be delivered on launch day.

do this. I wouldn't bank on walmart or radioshack b.c they get less than 10

Aperture 4

I'm hoping that they release Aperture 4, it being a media event an all that lot. Aperture is well overdue a big update.

I have a question about this too. This will be the first time I'm eligible to upgrade on the day an iPhone is released. Will I be able to do this with Verizon? Obviously I can't stand outside a store or order from Apple directly, right? Not if I want the 'subsidized price' I guess?

Go to an Apple Store. They have the most stock. I waited in front of a Best Buy for iPad2 so that they would run out. I then drove to my local Apple Store, waited in a huge line, but got what I wanted. when iPad 3rd Gen came out, I just went to the Apple Store.

All I know is this: if Apple includes a 4" (diagonal) screen, 3GPP LTE and NFC that is compatible with the Sony-developed "FeliCa" mobile payment standard and the upcoming ISIS mobile payment standard, it will become the hottest-selling cellphone ever.

Think about it--who's going to be buying the new iPhone? How about:

1. Millions of iPhone 4 users on the AT&T network coming off two-year contracts.

2. Millions of iPhone 4 (CDMA) users on the Verizon network coming off two-year contracts.

3. Millions of iPhone users in Japan and South Korea wanting an iPhone with built-in NFC for mobile payments.

4. Millions of iPhone users in Europe that want an improved iPhone.

5. It may be the first iPhone certified to run on China Mobile's network, which means a huge market for this model.

In short, from September 21 to the end of 2012, Apple may end up selling over 50 million iPhones worldwide, and will likely keep up this momentum well into 2013.

You can be sure Apple will drop some feature just because they need to save it for iPhone 6, so people have to upgrade. In other words, there will never be a perfect iPhone. Expect LTE, but probably not NFC, and so on and so forth... Sad but likely true.

And that is why my deep in the money CALLS are going to pay for my new iPhone, iPad, and whatever the hell Apple creates to part me from my $$$ LOL

Not sure how anyone could moan about this being an incremental update. A one piece chassis and rear plate, a different aspect ratio, improved camera and probably completely improved internals.

Change for the sake of change is not good engineering practice. It should be a steady evolution towards the ideal design.

Amen! There are only so many ways to change a product to make it better. We don't go around changing the shape of a tire just to make the roundness better. We change how it functions, but once the perfect attributes have been incorporated, only fine tuning is necessary.

I'm sure there will be no shortage this time around. This phone was clearly ready to launch when they decided to go with the 4S instead. This is really pathetic cuase there was no excuse not to launch this instead of the 4S.

not surprised by this. my wife's blackberry has crashed on her multiple times this past year while she noted my 4s works just fine. She's worried about the iPhone b/c she does like the keyboard, but i told her 90% of my texting and emailing is with Siri and although she can be a b*itch sometimes (Siri..not the wife ;) , it works well.

My son has been saving his paper route money for an iPad and is intrigued by the iPad mini rumours. A lower priced device would fit his bill of saving and buying something.

all that secracy

The long iPhone is a good looking device, bur much more evolutionary rather than revolutionary. I wouldn't be surprised to see a completely new iPhone than the one that has been on the news lately.

Before the premiere of the 4S, there has been cases for a teardrop shaped Apple device, which I believe was a decoy manufactured by Apple to stir the rumors.

This could be a similar situation. Maybe this long iPhone is a rumor-stirrer, too.

Edit: And this proves it: http://gizmodo.com/5930423/the-best-proof-yet-that-apples-next-iphone-will-look-entirely-different

How would Apple reinvent the phone at this point? Android supporters cite their products as more revolutionary, but even they are still just phones. Unless the iPhone has a fuel cell battery which last days, I can't see how they could really improve the phone at this point.

Than being said, they took the laptop computer and revolutionized it's use with the multi gesture trackpad.

NFC still doesn't seem that widespread in Singapore, plus our 4G likely won't be compatible (when it gets rolled out eventually). So the only real draw is the slightly longer screen and possibly improved specs. :(

If the new iPhone has a stretch (tall) screen and has f*cked up the proportions set by the original iPhone to the 4S, I will seriously consider not getting the new iPhone when it comes out.

So ... I think to be funny now that everyone has "confirmed" an unannounced date - Apple should change it!

I really like Tim Cook. The steadfastness of this September 12 rumor, and how far ahead we are of that date, really runs counter to his recent "doubling-down on secrecy" comment. I hope that he gets the last laugh and has engineered some misinformation and false iPhone parts leaks. I'd love to see invitations go out for an earlier event with a different looking phone, etc.

Another problem he has, outside of the loss-of-secrecy aspect, is that this this will decimate iPhone sales for the next six weeks. Every news outlet is reporting this rumored date. Anyone wanting a 4S will wait for the inevitable September 12 price drop, and anyone wanting the latest-and-greatest will obviously be content to wait a little longer.

I miss the days when Apple took some risks. The iPod Hi-Fi wasn't a success (although I enjoy mine), but I do miss those days of anything being on the table. Now it seems Apple's innovations are limited to refining - beautifully, of course - existing products and services. I'd enjoy seeing something come out of the blue still.

My two cents.

iPhone 5 Pricing Structure

Does anyone have an idea of the pricing structure for the next generation iPhone when it is released including the upgrade/service contract agreement discount?? I have not seen any rumors or even discussion of this topic. Maybe some iPhone junkies who remember the release of the 3GS, 4, and most recently the 4S can weigh in on what the remember. I know the original first generation release was much more expensive than the more recent releases due to Apple doing their pricing restructure. So I am not really interested in those experiences, but more so I am really interested in what to expect for this release. I figure maybe the people who remember the other releases have some experience that could help provide a better idea of where the impact on our pockets will fall. In advance, I appreciate all your input and help!

Please comment with your thoughts, I am very interested!

*notices everyone confirming the date*

After careful analysis over all the data I've collected, I can confirm that date.

Hi guys,

Does anybody know how many Iphones each person will be able to pre order?
I'm on ATT Family Plan with 5 lines. I will be upgrading 2 lines only. Is it possible to order 2 iphones at preorder?

Thanks

If you can't notice the insane devotion many here have, you have issues.

This is a publicly traded company with the biggest market cap in the world.

They sell personal electronics.

Apple needs to improve the iPhone more than the leaks suggest, that's all.

He does have a point about the insane devotion that some do have when it comes to Apple. I don't think that is anything new though and has been going on for years. I like and enjoy my Apple products, but I also have the ability to be critical of some things they do. I had a chance to get an iPhone 4S, but I went with a RAZR MAXX instead. Why? Because I didn't want to spend the next 2 years on old Verizon 3G CDMA and squinting at a tiny screen.

The thing is Apple knows at this point the main reason people buy an iPhone is because it is an iPhone. They could simply refresh the current iPhone 4S and add a couple new features and most people would go completely nuts over it. If that is the case then why spend mega bucks coming up with new designs or making major changes to the OS? There is no reason. They have the market and as long as the brand "iPhone" is hot they have nothing to worry about no matter what they do.
