Ah yes, but I think 'pocket' is the key! I reckon they'll come up with a wanky one line hyperbole that will sell the ability to download songs to the iPhone, eg: '2,000,000 songs in your pocket' (ie: you can buy any of the songs on the music store on the go).

I totally just figured out their selling point! Hold me to this. Hold me to this like a rat stuck to the floor of a glue factory. HOLD ME TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Or they could go with: 'music sounds better when emitting cancerous rays. Live dangerously.'

haha!

As long as the info page on apple.com states:

*Do not eat iPod Phone.

Then I'll be happy.

 1. How much longer till we know?
 2. Can anyone answer my previous question?

That is all

1. Four hours and forty four minutes. Not that I have a complex series of alarms set or anything.
2. I had to research back into the thread to find it. Um, maybe, check back in 4 h 44m?

Will the phone connect to your computer so you can put songs on via iTunes? Why would anyone pay $2 for a song if they could just get it of their computer? 😕

I would think so.. otherwise, over time you'd fill the capacity of the phone.. and to buy new music you'd have to delete your old. I'm not sure a buyer would enjoy getting burned, having to delete a $2 just so he could buy another.

My guess would be, you can download wirelessly for $2 and manage in your itunes. Again, bringing users to apple.

Wake me up when there's an Intel based Mac mini

Who in the hell wants an iTunes based phone? I sure don't. All I want is a cell phone with bluetooth. Don't need a camera on it. Don't need text messaging. And sure as hell don't need iTMS.

to be honest, i think ud look like a bit of a **** if u listen to tunes on ur mobile, it just looks like u cant afford an iPod

'oooh i love this tune.. er hang on... hello mum!' its sad. i mean its a good idea, and they have to do it cos theyll sell loads and its nothing new, the only thing thats new is the iTunes sunc, mp3s on phones have been available for time. buying over the airwaves would be cool tho

I dont know. You might be off here. Look, I have felt for several years that device consolidation was coming. I now have a microsoft smart phone, and it does ALOT. Best thing about it, I always have my phone. Need to snap a quick pic? Its there. Need to take a quick video? Its there. Send an email? Listen to some MP3's? Take a quick note? Make a phone call? Watch a movie? Play some old nintendo games on an emulator? Find a place using GPS? Hop on a website to get some info?

Yes, I do all that and more with my phone. And for 200$ (After rebate TM). Sure, the memory out of the box would make for a very poor mp3 player, but 1gb minisd cards are abouit 60 bucks now.

This is what apple needs. I could never go back to carrying 3 devices (Phone, Ipod, and pocketpc) to do what I can do with one. Or always find out I forgot or left the one I needed when i get there. Now I always have my phone, which can do whatever I need!

I would like to see the new PowerPCs Steve said were still on the way. Maybe a faster G5? Long delay on the 2.7 in the us apple store.

Any news on that Asteroid thing from a few months back?

But no matter what it is I have to wait 2 i get off work to find out any way. 🙁

I didn't realise you represented apple's entire potential target market.

How STUPID and RETARDED of apple not to talk to you first before starting upon new product projects.

🙂

Something more than a phone... but what?

A special media event wouldn't go like this:

1) Hello and welcome to San Fran, here's a few updates before we get into the heart of the matter
2) First, an update on Apple Retail (talks about latest store)
3) Now an update on the Mac (talks about sales)
4) Now it's time to talk about iTunes. Today we're bringing iTunes to a whole new market: Cell Phones. Shows ROKR Phone, Moto guy comes on
5) Buy now!

There must be something else.

Apple is the king of making us sad this year. I don't see them abdicating.

Too true dat too true.

I am hoping for Harman/Kardon speaker equiped HD monitors in the current sizes but lower prices, in addition to an Apple splitter box to allow the computer to be connected to a regular HD TV without loss of quality when used as a regular monitor...I know...but dreams sometimes can come true!

Is mobile email - the new revolution?

OSX mobile running in a dinky lil' white iPod-like enclosure.
Not as big as a PSP
Nice colour screen
The revolution? email. Yes - it's been done on phones, palmtops and other pager-type devices already, but this interpretation is different.
Email communication is the focus, although the devive will also have web browsing capabilities and PDA functionality too.
Cingular and O2 in the UK will be the carriers for this service.
The iTunes enabled phone will be a separate announcement by Moto later - it's simply a smokescreen...

Wishful thinking? You heard it here first, folks!

Bill, great points. However, I think the non-convergence arena is where Apple shines. I really like my iPod as an mp3 player. It does music, and it does it well. While I have a camera on my phone, I never use it. I would like to have a little Canon ixus 700 for those times where you like to take a spontaneous pic. I guess it's a gamble for the folks in Cupertino to figure the odds on. Make a device that performs one or two functions flawlessly or build a digital Swiss Army knife.

T minus fours hours or so, eh?

I agree, my camera phone as it sits is NOT a high quality peice. The nice part is its "there" Always. Got numerous shots I never would have got had it not been there when i was. Short of carrying a camera around my neck i cant get the same results.

I believe in apple and their ability to make a digital swiss army knife 😉

Here's what's gonna happen...

Hi everybody! I've been reading MacRumors for years, but this is my first post...

So, I had this dream last night about the announcement. It goes down like this:

Steve walks onstage to a thunderous applause. There are guitar amps and a huge drumset at the back of the stage. As per usual, a corporate health update ensues (stockholders get erections).

Steve does a live iChat with the guy from Motorola for a joint unveiling of the phone. Crowd claps politely. Details and pricing are announced... not so bad (but who needs the bloody thing?). Steve smirks knowingly, trying to hide his excitement.

Next: Intel update. Developers are porting applications at an astounding rate... most successful architecture switch in history... whatever. Then he says, "and today, we're going to release the first ever Intel-based Mac"!!

The lights dim, and a spotlight shines on the middle of the stage as a small column rises out of the floor... but there's nothing visible on it. Steve walks over and picks up a tiiiiny little object, about the size of an iPod. "Here it is: the MyMac" (feel free to excange with clever-er name). It's like the Newton, only handsome. Crowd goes INSANE... stockholders quickly shuffle towards the washrooms... champagne falls from the sky... Steve goes on to demo it. It's loaded with wicked features - wireless, BT, HD widescreen, etc...

Then he shows how it integrates with iTunes 5, and the new iFlicks store. Girls in the front row are crying and throwing their panties. A few burly dudes lift their shirts to reveal their homebrew Apple logos painted on their bellies.

Then, Rush comes out and rocks the place with 2112 and La Villa Stangiato. (It's MY dream... sheesh!)

That's pretty much it.

Then, a few weeks later at Paris Expo, there is a special event - but not a Keynote. Everyone gathers in the theatre, the lights dim, and a big movie is shown on the screen, announcing the new dual-core PB G4s... then the new dual-core PM G5s. See? You don't need a keynote for this 🙂

Cheers!

The worry I have is that the o/s on Motorola phones on the whole are... well... a bit $h!t.

I had the RAZR and it looks and feels gorgeous but the operating system is a bit clunky so I switched to a big fat chunky Nokia smartphone.

From what I've seen it looks like the "iPhone" is getting more or less the same o/s.

Who knows. Maybe Apple really does have something exciting up it's sleeve. It's not like there's any reason to be secretive about this phone but my gut feeling is that we're going to see a pretty average iTunes phone released today that plays music like SO many other mobile phones out there but that will come with a big dollop of Apple hype. :-(

Would look like more of a **** that someone who thinks u, ud, cos, and tho are actual words? 😉

Seriously, which is worse, having multiple devices hanging off your belt, or one that does everything?
