No one can really speak like Steve, can they?

The Motorola guy thought he was funny...her de hur de hur.

The Cingular guy was singularly annoying.

Steve always manages to pull it off even when he screws up.

Kanye

did any one else notice that kanye said in
( it all falls down ) " Now she cut it all off and she looks like STEVE"

that should be

"Now she cut it all off and she looks like EVE"

just thought i might say incase no one noticed i thought that was cool tough crowed thou.

Lots could be done to improve the PBs. More Firewire ports, better graphics chip, decoding of H.264 HD in the graphics chip, better LCD, better trackpad, upgraded DVD burner, better speakers, quieter keyboard, brighter backlight, longer battery life all would help. A faster processor would help as well.

The processor doesn't have to make a huge leap to improve sales. People who just bought PBs are unlikely to buy new ones very quickly. However, those who purchased two years ago or more could be tempted by comparing the speed of their processors with that of the new ones. A 2GHz G4 would be a very tasty upgrade from a 1.25GHz G4.

Right, even a 1.8 GHz G4 with 200 MHz FSB would be a nice upgrade from my 1 GHz, 133 MHz FSB TiBook. If there is one more G4 Powerbook version, which I hope for, I am certainly going to buy a top of the line model, fully loaded, 2 GB RAM, 7200 rpm 100 GB HD (or even 120 GB HD if available by then). In October my university will again have a promotion with Apple, so the timing is right.

Did anyone besides me spot a little glitch in the Keynote presentation? It looked like there was a white rectangle on the right side of one of the dark-background slides for a second or so. Perhaps it was an artifact of the QuickTime streaming video of the presentation, but since it seemed to be aligned with the border of whatever he was showing, it seemed to be on the screen the audience was seeing, not in the movie of it.

I'm sorry I forgot to notice what exactly was else on that screen. I'd guess it was either when he was showing competing MP3 players or when he was showing nano accessories. I don't want to watch it all again just to check.

Nope, you're right Doctor Q, I saw it as well - and yes, it didn't appear to be an artifact of the stream itself, more so something with Jobs' presentation itself. Evidently Keynote 3 still has some bugs in it. ;)

Yeah. He also said "George Bush" instead of "White Man".

Can he who?

I've not liked any of this rapper stuff. But this fellow they put on was the wrong guy for this event. The QT stream went well on my G4 with Tiger, smooth, clean, despite the silly phone guys. Steve Jobs is what makes these events fun. I thought Madonna was entertaining. But the rapper???? That's the only thing that messed up my enjoyment of the show. Bleh.....

I thought it was a bit weird as well, but whatever. I find anything involving Kayne now to be "interesting" ever since his little rant on that Katrina Fundraiser with Mike Myers.

hate to open this up again, but I can't help it. Did this make it to the net before NBC edited it? Any idea where I can view it?

I have an AVI of the uncensored footage. Got an FTP where I could upload it? PM me to discuss further...

I am also having this problem, but there is no "Audio" tab in the Audio MIDI Setup, only an "Audio Devices" tab. And in that tab, the Audio Output is already set to 44100, with 96000 not even an option. So there's nothing for me to change to try and fix this.

Sorry. I was doing it from memory. The other tab is 'MIDI Devices' so fairly obviously I meant 'Audio Devices'.

The list of input and output frequencies probably depends on your hardware, 96,000 Hz is top on an iMac G5. Try one of the others.

I'm glad Apple's streaming this not-keynote, but i have never really gotten a stream to work. i always get 400 errors or Bad somethings.. cept once i got the intel stream to work... are the errors due to server load?

Little disappointed, not enough SJ booms.

Can't wait for the Leopard keynote. That is going to be SJ boom galore.

Take your vitamins, steve. Live a long time and keep the booms coming. :)

what do you mean by booms? i've heard this term a lot. can't figure out what you people mean by it. does he make noises?

Back on the topic of the oddity of the music in the keynote, It's interesting that Steve opened the program by honoring Yo-Yo Ma, then talked to Madonna on iChat, and finally had West sing... it would have been much better if he had reversed that--that is, honored Kanye, Chatted with madonna, and then had Yo-Yo Ma play something at the end.

Oh well...

Yeah I've been having problems with this stream from a bunch of computers in a bunch of different places today.

#1 @ Work: We've got a huge pipe and my workstation is pretty fast (for a PeeCee) but still had major lag and no sound many a times.

#2 @ Apple Store: While buying my Nano (woot!) I tried it on a dual 2.7 G5 and got similar results to #1.

$3 @ Home: Got 5mbps Cable that usually hangs out around 3 or 4 realistically, still can't seem to get this thing to run on anything but the minimum even while tweaking streaming settings.

Maybe the server is still getting hit like a red-headed stepchild.

Anyone have the stream as a .mov file??

I can't watch the stream decently because of speed limitations and so I need the captured quicktime file to watch the Special Event keynote. I looked at the torrent sites just like I did in WWDC2005 but I can't find anything related with this event.

Anyone captured the stream at decent quality, or know a link for it???

A habit that Steve has when something comes up fast on the screen, he will say "Boom". On the Tiger preview, he did that more than normal. Widgets and Spotlight are times when he goes nuts with the phrase.

Geez, all this hate for Kanye. He's a very talented performer, and his albums have really hearkened back to the old school by folding in the traditional sounds of early R&B. He's one of the few good things going in rap right now (right there with Jurassic 5).

When I watched the keynote it was in H264 - but that might have been autoselected. Try it!!

Me too! I originally watched it on my PC at work and when I got home to my G5 it seemed so much sharper. Checking the movie info revealed this:

Format: AAC, Stereo, 24.000 kHz
H.264, 640 x 360, Millions

iTunes ughTunes more like.

What have they done to the iTunes interface? It is so very ugly indeed, I can't believe it. In particular, when the interface is in minimized mode the UI is horrible, it looks like a linux version of iTunes. The main info window where we had the delicate oval is now replaced with a slightly rounded rectangle which just isn't as aesthetically pleasing.
The volume slider also looks like an unwanted guest hanging around at a party, I'd consider re-aligning it vertically. Also, the flimsly line that divides the side bar (album art etc) from the main window is too fine, not enough distinction.

I can't believe Apple UI designers made this.

The new features are great however, browsing genres in the iTMS is great and folders for playlists is most welcome.

Please revert or enhance the UI, it's so damn ugly.

Graham.

Just read through the thread and seems some are getting lame streaming while others are getting great h.264.
Probably a stupid question, but as someone who is getting lame quality (with QT 7 on dual 2ghz G5 running Tiger) do you need QT PRO 7 to stream h.264?

I know you need it to save, go full screen etc, but I didn't think it was required for h.264 files?

I disagree with almost everything you said. In fact, I think you might be insane. I've always hated metal, though, so no surprises. At any rate, I agree with the above comment strongly, and I think you have a good solution to it too. Kudos.

Good luck if you revert to iTunes 4.

Set your connection speed in QT preferences. This will let the QT Broadcaster to shoot off the correct video file based on your connection speed and speed of your computer.
